Company Overview

Our company stands as the foremost roofing contractor in Texas. Without equal, our skilled roofing team bring decades of expertise in providing roof repair and replacement solutions to the residents of our area. When you require a trustworthy and professional roofing service, give us a call!

“Ja-Mar” stands for James and Marlyn. Our founder, James McKinney, has strong ties to the community that trace back to when Austin was just a small town. In fact, one roofing contractor from the 1800s decided to hand over its customer base to no other company than Ja-Mar Roofing. The roofs we install have proven their durability, adorned many iconic buildings and homes across the greater Austin region for over 48 years. We began as a small, detail-oriented roofing service dedicated to our customers. From our humble beginnings to today, we have aimed to uphold that dedication. I grew up in Bronte, Texas, a small town. During my childhood, I focused primarily on sports. Our community was tight-knit, and everyone was familiar with one another. Bronte was truly a fantastic place.

I started my roofing career in 1992-93, encouraged by my brother to join after his success in sales. Our roofing company prospered in West Texas for many years, until I sold my stake and moved to Austin, TX, a place I had always dreamed of being. I bought a great roofing company in 2005 with an excellent reputation and history. Ja-Mar Roofing & Sheet Metal has transformed from a small Mom & Pop operation into a flourishing roofing company serving customers throughout Texas. However, we continue to provide the friendly service and meticulous attention to detail that made us a trusted name in Austin since 1970.

Did one job that was done to our satisfaction. Second job was a mess. Difficult to reach and had to speak with 3 different salesman before I got to one that wasn't completely rude. I would not hire them again.

Great company, did an amazing job on our roof! They beat out anyone's price and even gave us a labor warranty. Couldn't be happier :)

I liked the product, price and the rep who came out, but cancelled the job in frustration after 8 weeks of delays and poor communication from the rep (I had to call to find out why there were delays; he should have been the one to call me.) However they gave a prompt full refund of the down-payment with apologies, and that integrity counts.

THIS REVIEW IS NOT BASED ON THEIR QUALITY - THEY MAY BE GREAT AND I DON'T KNOW IT. IT IS BASED ON THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

It's great that contractors are having a field day with the booming Austin housing market, but absolute hell for homeowners who wait for hours when they no-show and don't call. In this case, Ja-Mar claimed that they would come out and assess the size and scope of the job during the week, but said that they would only do it contingent upon my availability to ""give them a full 45 minutes to an hour"" to go over the final bid with me. I rearrange my schedule to accommodate them. The scheduled day arrives and the guy shows up an hour and a half late - no phone call, and immediately says, ""Geez, we're so busy that we never had a chance to look at the roof this week and I'm really hungry and I need to go get something to eat."" After this, do I really feel comfortable spending around $15,000 with this company? Would you?

I had Denny Satterfield from Jamar at my home this afternoon for some minor roof repairs. Not only was his bid the least expensive, he did a quick professional job. I'll be using Jamar Roofing for any future roof work. Thank you.

Ja-Mar Roofing and Sheet Metal replaced our roof a few months ago and we couldn't be happier with the work and service. This review is specifically for Don G. and his service and crew oversight.

This was an insurance claim and Don counseled and guided us through the process. Due to the generous insurance claim amount, Don was able to upgrade the roof shingles (led to home owner's insurance annual deduction) and provide an excellent warranty. He selected a good crew who showed up and did the work as scheduled, completed it on time, and left the site clean. Don oversaw the crew and reviewed their work, we are happy with the workmanship and have had no issues with the roof in the months since. Don and his office also contacted us months afterwards to inform us we could receive a free, upgraded warranty - great service and follow up.

Strongly recommended.

Don G with Ja-Mar is amazing! This guy clearly has a passion for his work (he's a self-proclaimed roof nerd). He walked us through the whole process, including a homeowners insurance claim, and was meticulous in his work. He improved the quality of our roof and communicated with us very well through the project. His installation team was great and very detail oriented. The work was done in a timely manner and with little disruption to my family. I highly recommend Don G. for your next roof. He will knock your socks off with his knowledge and expertise.

Ja-Mar was not interested in our roofing repair apparently. They came over and inspected the roof that was leaking in two places. Roof was in good condition, except the two leaks. Two areas of the shingles were identified to be replaced to solve the problem. But it was a job of less than $1,500. A verbal ""ballpark"" from the estimator that came over was all I could get out of them. I could not get a formal quote so that we could proceed with the repair. Like many roofing contractors, if the job is a repair that is not a whole roof, or a size able area of replacement, they apparently were not interested. After two follow-up phone calls and conversations I went elsewhere. I think the ""roof repair"" angle is targeted as a hopeful opportunity to replace a roof, not repair one.

So far so good at the bidding stage... The roof on one of my rental properties suffered hail damage and needed to be replaced. Maybe I should have gone with the property managements first pick but I asked for another bid and was impressed by Denny's thorough email and pictures of the roof etc... His bid was good and included drywall replacement for the interior where there had been leakage inside.

I emailed him about ETA when I had not heard past the time i thought it might be done but there was no reply. My management company followed up and cc'd me the email. The relationship with my tenants means a lot to me and i treat them like I would want to be. Here is the email from my tenants that sparked my email to ask about the progress:

The shingles were delivered last week (presumably Tuesday the 12th) and have been sitting on the roof since then. No one has come to assess the interior damage, nor to begin work on the roof itself...despite us giving several dates we could be available, as needed, to access the inside of the house. We haven't heard anything from the roofing company either. Can you please find out what is going on and let us know when we can expect the roof to be completed & repairs to be made? Thanks.

An email came from Denny 8 days ago saying that the roof is done but the sheet-rock repair as not done because his sheet-rock guy got injured and will be out for 6 months... I called him about this and left a voicemail and no return call or email.. funny how communication changes after payment has been made compared to before the bid was accepted.

Denny, you cant call me and discuss other sheet-rock people or try to line another one up? Is your business so small that you tell someone the only person that could have done this was this one person?

BTW my management company got in touch with a sheet-rock person and the bid was $300 lower on the sheet-rock and includes more since they said that the floor had damage which the Ja Mar quote never mentioned.

Bottom line is the roof work might be awesome ( I am not there to have a walk through) but the fact that there was no email or phone call follow up to my concerns is not good. The fact that my tenants were not happy added to my dis-satifaction..

I was thinking of leaving a three star review because i like to give the benefit of the doubt but that was described as ""A-OK"" and 2 stars is described as Meh Ive experienced better.

After shopping several years off and on for replacement windows, we purchased our's from Jamar. We found we got a very fair price from Ken, Sean and his installation team did a good job with the installation and made several trips back to make sure everything fit correctly. All in all a great experience.
