Interstate Roofing was highly recommended years ago, and when I was ready, I called Bill to plan for a new roof and replacing/upgrading my Solar Panels. It was a big job due to the height of my home and replacing the old roof, removing the old panels, and installing the new solar system. I am overjoyed at the results - coming up 2 years in November. I could not be more pleased knowing how much time and attention was spent from start to finish. In hindsight, it seemed to be a minimum of a disruption, despite being such a big project. Everyone was courteous, on time, clean and thorough and I am delighted with the results!
I also love having a live dashboard to monitor solar production and consumption hour by hour, and having the history to compare and see the positive impact on our environment. Solar is the right thing to be doing in principle, and was very reasonable as to overall cost for a very high quality product and service. I highly recommend Bill and his company, Interstate Roofing -- they have been in business in Oakland for many decades and have many satisfied clients.

I got a bid from Bill Wong in 2013 after waiting all summer for them to schedule me in. I would have gone with someone else who was available sooner, but my friend had recommended Interstate Roofing as a low-cost roofer. When I finally got a bid, I had to wait several months again for the work to begin, and the price was average compared to the competition.

Bill and I made some agreements on the phone about the contract regarding the plywood, the front chase, the vents, and the permit fee. I confirmed those in writing at the time, but when it came time to do the work, Bill Wong changed the terms and increased the price. I was shocked. I had waited a total of 6 months assuming they were reliable. I ended up going with another company, Collins Roofing, who did a great job and saved me thousands of dollars, and no doubt a lot of headaches.

We used Bill Wong from Interstate Roofing to replace the roof on our home and garage several years ago and we were so pleased with his work, we recently had him replace the gutters on our new home. We chose Bill because he does such excellent, precise work and when you are dealing with a roof or gutters, you want the job done properly to protect your home. We were referred to Interstate through a contractor that we've used in the past. We contacted Bill & he was able to come out to our house to perform the inspection. We have an active leak in the roof that was causing quite a bit of damage to the wall & an external door.

He showed us that the roof needed a lot of work, since there was considerable rot & that it's leaking into the structure of the house. Apparently, there are more leaks than just the one we noticed.

At this point, I am really interested in seeing the report! How much will it cost & how quickly can we get it done!?

He took our payment for the inspection, and then took a MONTH to reply to us with the estimate. We bugged Bill a few times for the quote, but didn't receive a response. The email carrying the quote only says, ""Sorry for the delay.""

Bill is the unique contractor who is both skilled/knowledgeable in his craft AND a good business man. He is also nice guy, to boot! I wish all contractors were like Bill.

Bill Wong came strongly recommended. I still got 2 other bids from other companies, also recommended by others. Bill's was solidly in the middle range of price but he was more detailed in the explanation of his work and gave clear rationale why/why not he should do certain things. He was extremely thorough without being nit picky. He inspired confidence that the others did not. He/his crew left no evidence that they were here--except for the roof repairs and improvements.

Josephine Wong, who runs the phones and scheduling, is also amazing. The two of them are a great team who are clear with what they can and cannot do. They were up front that if I was too worried about my roof leak, I should find someone else because they could not come out for 2 weeks to inspect, or start work for likely 3 weeks. Well worth the fee for roof inspection/estimate and worth the wait.

I have nothing but praise for Bill Wong and his company.

Bill Wong is fantastic and so is his crew. They did high quality work replacing my roof in May 2011, and Bill is very interested in customer satisfaction. He was so concerned about quality, that he told me about some damage the solar panel installers had done on the roof and we made them pay for the repairs! Bill's prices were very reasonable; not the least expensive bid but I paid just a little more for much better service. I highly recommend Bill Wong and Interstate Roofing!

Bill Wong is AMAZING! My husband and I hired him to replace our roof in the spring of 2010 and recommend him highly. He does excellent work, has FANTASTIC customer service, and makes you feel like part of his family.

He really takes his time to walk you though each step of the project and to answer all of your questions. He is thorough, detail-oriented, and a hard worker.

This spring, we had a couple questions about roof maintenance (we are new homeowners-- what can I say!). Not only did he follow-up right away, he PERSONALLY came out to our house to talk to us. Very impressive! As a small-business owner myself, I really appreciate what it means to go this extra distance.

Bill really takes care of his customers and takes a lot of pride in what he does. If it was possible to give him 6 star, we would!

Bill inspected to roof of our house (Berkeley, near the Berkeley Bowl) a few weeks ago within the process of purchasing the house. He is paying attention to details which is obviously very important for roofs and he explained the problems (not too many) in a very understandable way.
I am civil engineer from Germany and have a good understanding of buildings including their roofs. We decided to have Bill take care of the problems and completely followed his proposal.
On the scheduled day, he and his team arrived on time, well prepared, effective and efficient in executing the job, clean and very professional.
This was an amazing experience of witnessing a perfect job on my house - I feel very, very good about it and I am convinced that I do not need to worry about my roof anymore for the next 20-30 years!

I can only wish all contractors were like Bill Wong. We found him knowledgeable about all things roofing, clearly took incredible pride in his work, used the highest quality materials, and recommended the best solution not necessarily the most expensive. He worked with us on a tricky cedar shingle roof on a 1936 cape cod home we had just purchased, with a shot roof. We got several quotes and everyone else suggested replacing the whole thing, which would have been incredibly expensive. Bill came up with a solution that fixed the worst parts and allowed us to replace the roof in stages. He was so thoughtful in everything, even how he sequenced the order of work to be least obtrusive for us. When he saw rain coming in, his team literally worked all weekend long to get the roof in good shape before the weather hit. I know he will stand behind his work without a doubt. Basically I can't recommend him highly enough. A real gem.
