Recommended Customer Reviews

1. Contracted for a complete tear off metal roof installation.
2. HW agreed, during negotiations, to install an air damper on the kitchen vent tube. This was needed to stop the free flow of outside air from mixing with conditioned air inside the microwave vent fan tube, causing condensation.
3. During the roof installation process, HW roofing confirmed that this vent damper was installed.
4. Because of this confirmation, we installed a microwave/vent fan combo, connected to the vent tube.
5. Condensation travelled down the vent tube, ruining a $733 microwave.
6. When HW was informed of this, CW admitted that a vent damper was never installed because he felt that one wasn't needed.
7. CW agreed to install an roof top air damper on the microwave vent tube if we insulated the tube first and sent him a photo to prove that this was done- and if the condensation problem continued after this added insulation.
8. We had the vent tube insulated from the microwave all the way to the attic ceiling with one layer of foam and two layers of wrapped insulation. We supplied photos to CW, proving that this was accomplished.
9. The condensation problem still kept occurring, with water entering the ruined microwave and falling to the stove top below.
10. We sent CW a photo of this continuing condensation problem and asked him to keep his word by installing a vent damper, as he agreed to do.
11. CW replied, telling us that the condensation problem was continuing to occur because we did not insulate the tube well enough.
12. We sent photos to CW again, confirming that the tube was insulated with one layer of foam and two layers of wrapped insulation. We also sent him links to articles about this problem of vent tube condensation. These articles pointed out that the solution was a two-step process, involving both insulation and the installation of an air damper.
13. We again emailed CW, asking for an expected air damper installation date so that we could schedule the installation of the replacement microwave as well as mold remediation.
14. Instead of keeping his word, CW has chosen not to indicate that he would be installing a damper.
15. We were left with no other choice but to turn this over to (attorney) Tyler Oldenburg with Marks/Grey.
16. Other members of HW's BMI group have confirmed that other customers have also experienced problems with CW and for this reason they no longer recommend him.

Unfortunately the job performed replacing my roof was overshadowed by the pompous owner ( Peter Helton)incendiary comments directed at myself while discussing the bill.My initial interactions with Andrew Bowman and Ray Rudnitskie ( project manager and Superintendent)were excellent as both were courteous and professional. The roof was put on in a timely matter. Unbeknownst to myself or the roofing crew my roof had to be ""redecked"" as it was allegedly not to code. As a gentleman on a budget and a senior citizen, I offered to purchase additional decking and get them to the job site in order to reduce costs. I was assured ""the company ""could acquire them at a significantly lower cost and "" we will handle it all! My mistake for not asking specifics. The roof was paid for in advance but then came the Shanghai surprise of the redecking invoice! I was charged $65.00 per OSB board ( times 65 of them )( which cost just under $11.00 each.in bulk at Home Depot) To their credit I was offered discounts but then the owner tried to editorialize by stating the price included installation, tax , insurance, workman's comp, utilities, coffee for the reception area , manager bonuses etc...As you see from the invoice there is no mention of this. One would surmise a quote is out the door price. Not HW contracting. The owner tried to pass this off as acceptable and finally I advised I was done with him, his fey explanation and him talking over me then talking down to me. After concluding the call, the owner called back and left a lengthy diatribe on my voicemail as he was clearly unnerved NOT to get the last word in. Not happy with my no call back, he then continue to pester me and sent out a long winded sophomoric cross analysis emailof comments I made to his colleagues, trying to "" point counterpoint "" his assertions. Had the owner been more civil and professional, there would be more stars. The roof was a 5, but his condescending comments and bogus mark ups were a minus 4. Look elsewhere because service counts!

Our roof was damaged in the April hail storm. We were able to change our shingles from black to a beautiful brown, which really enhanced our home. Everyone who worked with us to get a our new roof approved & installed were very professional. The installers were very careful to protect the plants & were meticulous in cleaning the yard when they were done. Gary worked with us every step of the way to be sure we were happy. We are very pleased with the entire experience & highly recommend HW Contracting if you need a new roof.
