I would recommend Home Upgrade Specialist to anyone looking for HVAC services. When I first put my request in on yelp they got back to me in a timely manner and helped me setup an appointment. Home Upgrade Specialist also called me the day of my appointment to advise me they had a technician available earlier than my appointment time and that was a plus for me. My tech was Daniel H., he arrived on time and solved the problem within 30 minutes. I will definitely call Home Upgrade Specialist again when needed.

Ok, so I've finally got it activated and running. It took a total of 7 months for the roof and solar combined...so here are both the positives and negatives of working with Home Upgrade Specialist (HUS).

Positives: the quality of the roof is great. The look of the roof itself couldn't be any better. They don't do flashing or those side details, but the roof itself looks awesome. The power wall looks amazing and the aesthetics of the wiring are, for the most part, very good. The solar panels also look good. I'm happy with all the aesthetics, and now that it's on, everything seems to be running well. I got 20 panels installed that are supposed to be getting a maximum of 8kwh. So far, the most I've seen it produce is 5.1, but I'm sure there are several factors involved. Also, Nitai, the owner, is very responsive and made several trips to my house to make sure the work was done to my satisfaction and even made great efforts to meet with the Glendale building and safety inspectors, whom are a nightmare to work with.

Negatives: the price. Roof and solar and power wall were approximately $90k. I'm okay spending on quality, but I probably could have shopped around and gotten it for 10-30% less. Also, our roof was leaking, and I was in a crunch as rainy season was approaching, so we were in a pinch.

The communication with several team members left a lot to be desired. Lana, who was the first to reach out, claimed to be the project manager, and would be the main contact person for the whole project. I talked to a total of seven times, and six of the seven times I got no information back or did not receive a call back after saying she would talk to the team. She was either overwhelmed with several calls like mine, trying to find out the status of work or when people were coming, or just didn't know what she was doing. On a few occasions, appointments were changed same day without letting me know, and I had already taken a day off work. Just simple things that should not have happened.

Now, the delays that caused it to take so long were 50/50 issues between the city of Glendale inspectors and the technician's work. The inspectors were a nightmare, so can't blame HUS for that. However, there were some code issues that the installers did not know about that should have helped avoid some of those inspection failures, things like wiring and clearance levels of junction boxes.

I would recommend working with them if you're okay with paying more and making sure you stay on top of install codes, because the end quality is great.

I was referred to this company by a friend and from the first call to the end of the service, it was 5 star! I was able to get someone to my place within 24 hours and was sent a confirmation and follow up with their arrival time. Daniel was amazing! Fixed the problem and suggested some upgrades (no high pressure sales!). Price was completely reasonable. Will definitely be using them for future issues!

I had an A/C company come by to check for any maintenance needs. They complimented the installation performed by Home Upgrade Specialist. Credit where it's due - there are too many shoddy craftsman running around nowadays.

I scheduled an appointment for Saturday June 29th for maintenance and for the specialist to check whether they could move my outside condenser unit to a new spot. Come June 29th, the specialist comes to my home on time, but then says I'm here to fix a broken AC unit right? I respond and say no, I just need maintenance and consultation. He then says that he can't do that because he's only there for service repair and promptly leaves.

After this happened, I immediately called a home upgrade specialist representative and she said that the transcript and recording of my last conversation with them clearly stated that I needed maintenance and consultation and that they were sorry for wasting my time. They said they would call me back Monday to fix this. It is now Tuesday and they never reached back out to me.

If you like having people waste your time and provide no service then feel free to use home upgrade specialist. Otherwise I would recommend going with any other company.

UPDATE - Aiden called me to confirm the rescheduled time and to fix the problem. I am changing this review to 3 stars for now and will see how the appointment goes on 7/6 before updating this review further.

UPDATE 2 - Andrew came by and did a great job providing a cost effective solution to my problem. He set up a pump that directed the water to the other drain hole. I am updating my review to 5 stars for how they handled the initial issue and for the actual job Andrew did.

I had a major flood in my basement and lost both furnaces. I called a few
companies but the personal attention and care from Simon at Home Upgrade Specialist was beyond great. We spoke about my needs and he reminded me that now would be the best time to add Air conditioning. Since I have a duplex, I know AC was something tenants seriously want.

He reviewed my other quotes to make sure they were quoting what they were giving properly and that it lined up with with what he was giving me. This was not done in a pushy way, he was 100% right and guided me well throughout the process. He suggested the perfect condenser needed for outside that would be quiet and not disturb neighbors.

I couldn't believe with all that they had to do...a AC unit on the roof (put on by crane) for the upstairs unit and below for mine was lots of other requirements that needed to be done..

This was all done in 3 days. I was shocked. Everything was handled neatly, quickly and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend this company. Ask for Simon, he's a great guy. I still call him to check in once in a while.

I was struggling to find a professional company in LA to thoroughly deep clean and maintain my Daikin mini splits and I am so grateful to have been referred to Home Upgrade Specialists by Daikin themselves. From my first phone call with Gabe who was patient and courteous to all my requests to Andrew, the HVAC technician who was extremely knowledgeable and an experienced expert in dealing with all things HVAC and mini split, I'm thankful to now have them in my corner. Andrew is a true professional (great communication, kind, thorough, punctual, etc) and after working with other companies in LA who have been disappointing or not savvy to cleaning and maintaining mini splits, my Daikin mini splits now look as good as new. I'm very happy to be a dedicated client of Home Upgrade Specialists and Andrew. Thank you!
