Recommended Customer Reviews

Having now lived through some pretty strong rains, I appreciate even more the work that was done. Zero leaks, perfect drainage, no problems!

As a retired California contractor (Phelps Construction, CA lic. 564114) I don't expect a lot of finesse from roofers but Highland is downright dangerous in my opinion.
Highland tore the roofing off my neighbor's house directly onto the side of my house. They purposefully used a shovel to tear off the material into the 30 inch wide space between the houses. When I first complained to the foreman, he said the roofing didn't hit my house. It clearly did. Then they did it again the next day! The owner of the business JAEYOUB LEE seemed to want to make the issue go away, talking about license numbers and other unrelated topics. Unfortunately his solution was to clean the marks, apparently not caring that the paint could be damaged by the falling roofing (about an 18 foot drop). He said I could touch up the paint myself. Thanks a lot for the advice.
I will probably clean it up and repaint it myself because Mr. Lee would undoubtedly downplay the damage. I anticipate he would want to have one of his crew touch up the the wall as if they would do it right (properly clean, prime, and then paint). I want these clowns gone ASAP.

We worked with Neil to repair a roof, and are very happy with everything. He is honest, and fair and responds quickly - I don't know what more you could ask for. Just a terrific company. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I have a roof replaced when we bought our home 20 years ago. Jay is the best as is Highland. Responsive, thorough, easy to work with. Although the roof was still OK, I asked Jay to replace it this year since I never want a leak first. His men came out, replaced the roof, resealed the skylights and put in a new one that was faulty and replaced the gutters with copper. And incredibly reasonable in price.

I cannot say enough positive words about Jay and Highland Construction. He installed a new roof on our two-unit building four years ago and the job was done absolutely stellar. After four years my kitchen skylight started to leak air to the point that my kitchen was freezing cold. I called Jay and he came out and fixed it immediately. As a property manager of multiple properties in SF, I know the value of great service and reliability. If you are looking for an honest and experienced roofer who backs up his work, provides top-notch results and competitive prices, call Highland Construction today!

Need a new roof? This is the company to call.
Neil is the man. Friendly, honest, transparent about the work, and importantly to me, not condescending.
I paid more than I expected, but that's why it's called an ""estimate"" and not a ""price"". And I paid more that I expected because I chose to and not because I was baited or anything was up-sold to me.
I was too chicken to go up to the roof and look at the final results but the photos look great and their warranty backs up the confidence in their workmanship; thanks, dudes on my roof.
I don't write a lot of reviews and haven't for a lot of years but yeah, I was compelled this time. They're that good.

Highland installed a new roof for us this summer and I do not have any complaints. I would recommend them for their professionalism. They were on time and completed their work as promised. So far the roof is holding. ;)

Great company, fast, reasonably priced, and honest. What more could you ask for? i dealt with Neil and it couldn't of been easier, I will recommenced them to anyone that needs a roof from now on.

I recently purchased a home and realized that the place needed a roof replacement (or an expensive fix for a leak). The seller did a lot of research and provided a range of quotes. Highland was not only very reasonable but also was willing to come out the very next day to get the job done (which was huge since more rains were expected).
The team came out early in the morning as promised. Neil joined them shortly after, we reviewed the contract together and made sure i understand the job specifics.
I left the team to their work until the evening, and they were done as promised by 4pm. Neil came by after 5 and we walked on the roof to inspect the result closely. He explained the work done and went through the details. They also expanded the pipe that caused the leak so that it does not happen again.
Lastly, the payment process was quick and easy. Neil was also able to get the permitting done quickly which was huge.
Overall, great experience and the roof has held up well for the last 2 showers.
Keep up the good work team.

June '13 Update --- changing my rating to ""i'm a fan"" four stars. (but still maintain a minus one star at yelp.com system for hiding some of the reviews in fine print.)
my roof bid was done in Nov 2011.
new roof installed Jan 2012
unreasonable noise issues developed almost immediately.
it took months to identify that there were two different issues going on.
it wasn't until 2013 that i was able to get the first ""fix"" which turned out to be insufficient and in May when I felt super frustrated and not able to efficiently or effectively communicate with the company I wrote the review below.
from mid-May onward, my experience with this firm improved immensely and turned back towards the initial 2011/12 experience and satisfaction (and highlighted below: responsive, fast, equitable) I had had with Highland. thankfully !!!
at this point, the staff at Highland has made every attempt to resolve the issues without any added fees to me (though I should mention that in terms of real costs it took an unreasonable amount of mine and my family's productivity time to deal with these issues and get to this point and thankfully through all this there were no side effects such as water leakage. it was all about wind noise only).
as of june, the bitumen issue has been fully corrected.
what basically seems to be the situation is that one person (Mr Lee) is more of the operations manager and focusses totally on management of the work team and completing the jobs. another person (Niel) works on the client management side, doing the bids and customer relations. they both have many years experience in the field yet have their strengths and weaknesses. now that i have personal experience with both sides of the team i do see that the company as a whole is more well run and that customer satisfaction is a top priority.
in the end, they were professional in managing my specific case. it's too bad they didnt bring in the customer relations side of team a bit earlier in the process. it would have saved us both a lot of time and costs.
OKAY TO HIRE.
also. this company works all over SF and the bay area. they know a lot about a lot of different situations and materials and construction. they work both residential and commercial
