I called Harlan roofing when the gutter guy discovered my roof had damage from the do it yourself owner who tried to mend the roof incorrectly. I made and appt with Harlan roofing and James arrived on time on the correct date! He was very thorough in his inspection and gave me a couple of options to either tear off part of the roof and repair or put on a new roof. When I chose the cheaper option, there was no upselling and he said it was a great idea.
They were really busy, so he scheduled the repair for 3 weeks later.
However, when he had a cancellation the weekend after inspection, he called me because he knew I was worried about leaks and offered the new spot. They came in a Tuesday, removed the bad part of the roof, then had to create new materials because of the do it yourself bad job, and I wasn't charged more, the estimate was the finished price and James and crew were amazing and professional!

We recently had our home roofed by Harlan Roofing and, are extremely satisfied with the work that they performed. We interviewed and received estimates from 3 other Roofing companies in the area. Harlan's price was competitive. Mike, the salesperson came to our home and was friendly, knowledgeable and provided us with everything in writing. Scheduling the job was longer than we had anticipated due to the rain, as they needed a clear (weather) window to start and complete the job. Once they got started, these guys worked hard and fast. They completely cleaned all debris and we are pleased that we have a new, top quality roof that is guaranteed.

I just had my roof completed by Harlan Quality Roofing. It's looking pretty good so far. The shingles are what I expected and what was presented to me. The gutters look good. The downspouts are pretty noisy during the rain. There is a constant tapping. But I looked at other houses in the neighborhood and the style of downspouts (straight and rectangular, see photo) seem to be the norm in the Sacramento area. In the Bay Area, I see more downspouts that are corrugated and have curved angles. Those types of downspouts seem to help with the noise, since the water flows down rather than dropping down onto a hard straight angle.

I did have issues with the scheduling of my installation. I wanted to beat the rainy season. I chose Harlan Quality Roofing because when I asked how soon installation could begin upon approval of my estimate, James told me 2-4 weeks. That didn't happen because his crew was held up on a large job. After 6 weeks, I went on vacation for a few days and then rainy weather started to happen. So that postponed it a bit too. But overall, it took about 8-9 weeks to complete after approval.

There was some miscommunication between me and Frank, the project coordinator. I mentioned to him that I didn't like the way the wood underneath my roofline looked and I would like it changed out. He gave me a quote of $563 for changing out the trim. I'm an average home owner, and I didn't know that the ""trim"" was only the outer piece of wood. When I saw how it looked, I asked them about it, and they said the quote was only for the 1x3 trim, not including the 2x4s underneath, and if I wanted to have those changed as well, it will be a lot more money. So now I have brand new ""trim"" sitting right on top of 30+ year old 2x4s (see photo). If I had realized that only the outer pieces of wood were going to be changed for a cost of $563, I probably would have passed on it.

But overall, I think the crew at Harlan are nice people and the product is decent. My advice to potential customers is to get clarification on all details beforehand, to ensure the results are exactly what you expect.
