I liked Haleakala in the beginning but now I can't get a hold of anyone my solar hadn't worked in over a year I need answers
Yes I do have a person coming out to service and it was scheduled before my review maybe you should find out what the correspondence was before making that statement it's been almost a year since I started contacting you guys only to now get told you guys bought the name Haleakala I wasn't notified and when I spoke with Allison she could of told me from the start about the company not once did anyone say anything this is why I'm so frustrated communication is key and you guys don't really do that so yea it's confusing and frustrating so before you make statements Make sure you know why I posted the reviews I did
I'm posting this review to prevent others from having a poor experience when making a large investment in solar.
I DO NOT recommend Haleakala Solar, because they do not honor promises, are not truthful, are unresponsive and lack integrity. Their website displays good ratings, testimonials, etc. that can easily build consumer confidence. However, I highly recommend doing your own research and checking with family and friends for recommendations. Things to consider when making your decision: panels, batteries, inverters, warranty & SERVICE. When a company is either unresponsive or slow to take action regarding an issue or for any other reason, your experience can easily become very labor intensive on your part, since you will be the one making multiple calls and doing the chasing.
The sales process went very smoothly and I signed up with them to serve both my Maui property and added more panels to my home already being served by another company.
This is my POOR experience:
Maui Property - When I informed the Company that there was no change to my electricity bill, the owner promised to fix the issue and reimburse me. In the meantime, emails, phone calls and texts were either not responded to or the response was that more time was needed, that something else came up that prevented him from working on my issue. Finally the issue was fixed and he reimbursed me after about a year from when I first brought it to his attention.
Home - a) the quality of work was sub-standard. The lead technician advised me that the reason for my continued high electricity bill was due to not making the right connections with my existing panels, but denied saying this when I met with he and the owner to discuss reimbursement. The technician was extremely defensive during the meeting. b) workers forgot to plug in my freezer and all the contents spoiled. c) workers were often late and never acknowledged their tardiness. d) Though I was promised a reimbursement, the owner denied any wrong-doing and did not reimburse me. I am now seeking another solar provider despite likely having to incur additional costs.

Haleakala expanded our solar system and installed a Tesla battery on one house and installed a new solar/PV system our second house and we couldn't be happier. Great and friendly staff and prompt service. All our questions and concerns were addressed in a timely manner. I'm surprised about the negative reviews regarding service because our experience has been consistently great.
More than glad to. Please send me your email address and I will contact you. However, like your customer service team, I am sure I won't hear from you till next year.
We needed solar while we were also adding onto to our house. It was a little difficult coordinating between the roofing and the general contractor's schedule for the larger project. After looking at (I think ALL) the other alternatives, we chose Haleakala. They're a local company with a good team - always anxious to do the right thing and make the job right. I'd highly recommend them if you're even contemplating solar - and why wouldn't you!
We had a PV system installed by Haleakala Solar in 2015. In April 2018 we noticed a water stain on the ceiling of our master bath. Haleakala sent out someone to check on their installation of panels above our bath. He patched some of the penetration holes above the bath. He said someone would come to evaluate the ceiling damage, but no one came, A year later, April 2019, the stains had increased and another person came and resealed the penetrations and sealed more of the penetration holes. He also said someone would come to evaluate the ceiling damage. Again no one came. Multiple calls were made to the company, but no one would come out. Finally in Sept 2019, they sent out a roofer who noted the stains and submitted his report. However nothing was done. More calls were made and promises made, but still nothing was done. Another roofer was sent out in Sept and noted the stains and commented that there was still a leak. Still the company failed to follow up on his report. More calls have been made and we are told that it is being looked into by management. When we installed the system Haleakala was locally owned and they provided good service. Somewhere along the way it was sold to a mainland roofing company that also does solar; and this is the company we are now dealing with. The new ownership service has been extremely poor. We have a 10 year warranty on the installation. It has been a frustrating journey. It seems that they are trying to wait us out and hope we get tired and let them off the hook. we continue to call.
Am writing this review as part of trying to shame them into action.
Will also submit a complaint to the State Contractors Licensing Board.
Lastly will consider litigation.
6/13/2019 update - Got the company to remove all the PV panels from the leak site, (about 40ftx40 ft) on their dime and we paid for another roofer to recoat the entire area.
Feb 2023 update - Another drip leak started in the same area. Had the same roofer come out to see if he could patch the penetrations from 3 of the PV panels. He said that the space between the roof surface and the bottom of the panels was too small for him to get his hand in to reseal the penetrations. He suggested calling Haleakala to see if they could remove the panels so could reach the penetrations to reseal them. (Haleakala did the sealing of the penetrations in 2019 when they replaced the panels, so they are probably responsible for the reseal too). I tried calling the 2016 phone number multiple times and each time got a busy signal. Went online and found that they changed their number. Have been calling for 3 hours, 8 am to 11 am and no one answers the phone. Also no answering machine or voice mail. For a company that advertises itself as a great company, they are anything but great, not even good. They are poor and seem to have no problem lying about it. Wish we had chosen a better company at the beginning in 2015.
Haleakala did a great job of selling however once I ""signed up"", I have had little to no feedback on when they would start my installation. I signed my agreement in July and it is now mid-January. I seriously question whether my salesperson and my assigned Project manager are still employed because I have not heard from them in a couple months despite my emailing them every couple of weeks. Even Hawaiian Electric is sending me surveys about how I'm enjoying my new solar system since that permitting process was completed so many months ago. I'm especially distressed that no one from Haleakala is responding to their customer... and now that we're in a new year -I've lost out on 2022's tax credits. I cannot recommend Haleakala Solar and have fielded questions recommending they look elsewhere. If I could rate zero stars I would have chosen that.
Art T.They did a great job expanding my solar system for the third time. They added another 11 panels to max out my roof and garage and installed 2 Tesla powerwall batteries. I've got 2 Jeep hybrids with level 2 chargers but my electric bill is still only $19 a month with this new setup. Even better is thy hooked me up with a HECO program that got me $8500 in rebates for adding the powerwalls. Their staff are professional, courteous, and did a great job.
Horrible warranty service nothing covered only what manufacturer will warranty and you do all the leg work. They told us it's covered under warranty but we need to call distributor and manufacturer to get a replacement. You will have to take all the pictures if you want them to come out you will have to pay them and also pay them to do warranty work
I heard about Haleakala solar from a friend so I thought I'd give them a call. I needed my previous solar system checked out since it was not generating enough hot water.
Getting an appointment was very easy, fast and straightforward. When the service tech came he explained everything that he was going to check and how long it would take. It rained that day and it was very slippery as my foot is super slanted, so he did all he could with the hot water heater and electrical panel then came back the next day to service the roof panels.
We'll suffice to say my hot water was 100% more efficient the very next day and and has been operating exceptionally well since.
I know that when it's time I will be giving James Escobido a call, he has a great reputation and is very easy to work with. James and Haleakala Solar and Roofing will be installing my upgraded system for sure.
