The owner of the company personally came and gave me a visit. He actually recommended that I buy LESS panels and just cover my higher cost peak electricity. He also worked with my needs and budget to create a win win! He even said he would advise me if I want to get additional panels on my own to save $, as I was originally planning on doing it myself.

I should have this paid off in 5 years and enjoy free power! Thanks Golden Gate Electric. Will update if needed if any issues with service, but so far so good!

I was contacted by a sales representative, Ditson Garcia, at this company regarding my interest in Solar Panels for my home. Mr. Garcia stated my home and location qualified for various discounts and grants through the City and the Go Solar program.

After speaking to him on the phone, I was invited to come into his office to go over the contract and different options that they offered.

During the meeting however, it became apparent that Mr. Garcia had not in fact prepared for our meeting, demonstrated by the questions he posed, and unfamiliarity he had of my home and neighborhood.

After providing a copy of the requested documents, he stated that I was not qualified for any of the Go Solar grants, that I did not fall into range.

His behavior during the interview surprised me and struck me as unprofessional. The office resembled a boiler room set up from the 80s, Mr. Garcia was 30 minutes late in greeting me. While his attire was professional, the laptop he brought with him was so old and continually froze when he attempted to retrieve information, which did not inspire confidence. His physical behavior was odd to say the least, he appeared to be suffering some kind of allergic reaction based upon the way he jerked his head back, twitched his eyes and and mouth, and continually cleared his throat. I resisted the urge to ask if he was alright, only to avoid drawing more attention to awkwardness of the situation.

This was easily one of the most unusual sales meetings I've been on. From the strange behavior of the sales person, to lack of resources the company seemed to provide for their staff to conduct business, and finally the 2 hour commute each way from my home to go over the paperwork for a product I was convinced by phone was a good match - only to be told during the sales pitch that I was unqualified for the free city money.

I do appreciate that dealing with small agencies/mom and pop type shops is 'hit or miss' so to speak; it's often a last resort for reasons not unfamiliar to folks who have dealt with agencies. However, I expected a greater degree of professionalism from this company based upon their clientele and the number of installs around the city. Moreover, during the sales meeting Ditson shared with me that second to Solar City, Golden Gate Electric was the forerunner in bay area solar sales and installs- despite being a start up company.

Perhaps my experience of this sales person was an isolated incident. Either way, Golden Gate Electric - as a start up in its infancy - would be wiser to cultivate a more professional staff. Word of mouth experience travels fast in this industry.

I'm a huge fan! I researched and talked to two other companies and Golden Gate Electric gave me the best deal, I was eligible for a San Francisco discount, 30% tax rebate etc. The other difference was service. The other companies only do installation and don't do annual inspections like Golden Gate at no cost. They also do good electrical and roofing work.
Golden Gate did everything they promised and more. Every month, when my electric bill is virtually nothing I'm glad.
