Another disaster from using improper materials, shoddy workmanship, fraud, false advertising, misrepresentation... Geoff Rogers advertised himself as a general contractor who would take care of all my permits, order all the materials, and complete the reroofing of my four-car carport and fourplex nearly flat roof.
He waited for the leaking roof to get nice and moody under a tarp to do the job, area has short construction time for weather. Everyone else too busy for the size of the job. His crew said they would do it without him involved for $22k. My contractor was too skittish to want to be the General on this size of permit! Sent a contract, wanted UP TO $32K. ILLEGALLY ASKED for $16k up front.(Gens can only ask for $1k) I had no choice. Building was molding before my eyes. A few days before the job he calls and asks if I have pulled his permits. I said we talked about that and he had assured myself and my contractor that he would do all that. THAT was the ONLY reason we hired him. I had to pull the permits in my name and my contractors. ""He could pull them but couldn't do the job for another few weeks INTO RAINY SEASON AGAIN!"".
Rarely showed up, told me he could make the roof better with a 1"" downturn at the edge, lowered the fascia, then didn't downturn the roof to it. 24"" joists means sagging roof. Moisture on bare wood, bugs in Attic. Then tried nailing roof and wrong dripedge to 1"" gaps. 115 feet of THAT screw up. Used painters calk for upvents, after my contractor's complaints, they covered it with mastic and painted it all to look like mastic. Lifting up from roof within days. Leaking now.

Completely Rotted roofing(see thru) was NOT replaced in places and just covered over. Had to demo ceiling for water damages and found that!

Roofing inspector refused to ok the roof, Jeff sent one guy to do 3 Guys work for 1 day, he replaced 1/2 the wrong dripedge, went home w wife. Nothing else done.

No prepaid materials were at the job site, dumpster was there. Entire bldg was littered with nails and materials. Minor cleanup after being told by MY contractor.

I had to have my own general contractor monitor his crew, who were subcontractors, with only one who understood English. I found sheets of plywood not nailed down about to be covered. When we left on the last day, Me for surgery, and my contractor for another job, they brought in hot roof drip edging and put it around the entire building... Which has a flat roof... Which we had just ALL agreed was the wrong materials right before we left.

Later Jeff tried to say I suggested the changes he said he'd do, but didn't, but reminded him I had a contractor witness.

Jeff acted like he didn't know what dripedge was, what it looked like, or which kind should be installed for what. He misrepresented himself like he was NEVER a Licensed Contractor. Said he was from San Diego, but a Bakersfield roofing supplier said I owed him $6k... after being oaid...? ( My reply was, Who are you, and why would you allow a crooked contractor to borrow... his crew??? All the materials came from Reno. ). He has since bowed out of the lien process, Jeff wants it all. $38,000 with interest, with an unfinished and leaking roof. Hes Applying for a lien... On an unfinished and leaking roof. I have documentation and pics, a failed roof inspection, and witness testimony.

I have heard that Jeff is not the kind of roofer our building Dept likes to see doing work... Perhaps why he lied about pulling the permits?

Oh yeah, my contractor had to lend him his ladder, and mine, and go buy 40 feet of fascia... I had to pay MY contractor for that, Jeff repaid him the costs of the materials. Then my contractor INSTALLED THE FASCIA!

Did I pay Jeff too? NO DETAILS ON BILLING! Just, ""pay me my $22,000 more!"" Yes I asked. No reply.

Sadly... I've worked with shoddy contractors before... He filed for a lien, now it's my turn. Sure glad to see the prior review. Taking note.

Absolute nightmare! I hired Jeff to install a new flat roof on my building. I paid him full price and paid him for extras that he claimed that was done including wood rots and I know there was no wood rots because I checked the roof after the demo part. The installation of the new roof was done wrong. His crew had no respect for my property and no pride for the job they were doing. They broke two of my HVAC units, almost burned my building and shoved a ton of rocks in to my drains and my attic and I end up with a shoddy roof job that has ponds on all four corners. He refused to fix any of the problems unless I pay extra for the repairs. He did not show up even once to check on his crew while they were working and as a matter of fact I realized that he hired another roofer to do the job for him and paid them half of what he charged me for the job. He refused to fix or correct any of his mistakes and refused to give me his insurance info. I found his bond and insurance info from the State of CA contractors web site and filled a claim against him. At that point he agreed to fix the problems at no additional charge. His crew came back and did a Micky Mouse repair. After I dropped my claim against him he send me a bill for repair/corrections. I couldn't test the roof again since it has not rained until it rained yesterday and I noticed that the problems are still there. This has been a very bad and expensive experience.

update 12-12-16

the seam came apart on a section of the new roof because of poor workmanship and then it rained for two days with nobody in the suite and the place got flooded. Absolute nightmare.

This is a 2nd generation family business going since 1994. Jeff Rodgers is very friendly, congenial, and reasonably priced. He makes every effort to give you what you want without breaking the bank. He completely re-roofed my home adding insulation to the roof over an open-beam ceiling where the temperature of the living room was always the same as it was outdoors, winter and summer.

His fix cured the temperature problem in the living room and, 1 year later, I'm extremely pleased with the overall job, materials and craftsmanship.

I have also used Jeff for roof/leak repairs on our rental units. Again, quick, polite and professional with excellent value.
