Susan W.Jerked us around setting up and cancelling appointments and then finally told us they don't add battery backup to existing solar systems. They should have told us that in the first enquiry. We were very clear on what we needed.
A pleasure to work with. Yash explained to us in a polite and very easy to understand manner our eligibility and quote. The installation and service went without an issue. We are very happy having solar right now that saved us a lot money every month. Thank you Smart Solar.
I read positive Yelp reviews about this company and that's why I chose to call them. I've been really surprised by their lack of professionalism since I started working with them. They were quick to respond when I first reached out for a quote and were able to give me a quote over the phone. They were the only company who did not come out to my location before giving me their estimate. Once we got started, they took about 6 weeks to send me the solar plans so that I can get it over to the HOA for approval then from there another 5 weeks to start my project since I was pushing to start it ASAP. Once they started, only one guy came each day and he would always sit in the front for a good hour before working. Since it was only one guy and it rained a few times, it took about 3 weeks before they can complete it. Once they got the final few days, he did bring in more guys. I thought it was unprofessional that they mentioned he would bring a team and they would finish within a week. The engineer working on the solar panels let me know they would paint the pipes when they finish but when they finished, no one painted it. I finally met the project manager Luis when the inspector came and let him know that no one painted the pipes so they had someone eventually come back to paint them. Still, even at that point, I thought I would give them some slack, because delays and mistakes will happen. Once everything was set up, I noticed I cannot view our information on Enphase even after creating a login. Some random guy in a random car showed up one morning and said he needed our wifi to fix the Enphase system but no one from Smart Solar ever notified us that anyone was coming and never gave us a name so we tried to work with him but no one picked up the phone. He wasn't able to fix it and told me just to call the office. A few weeks after that, the Enphase app still was not working so someone else came as well. This time, they did notify me in advance. That person was finally able to fix it. We also asked for a 240v car outlet to be added when they were finishing up the solar installation. That was January 4th. To this day, we haven't heard a single update about when that will be installed. We've emailed and called but no one will call us back. if they cannot or do not want to do this install, it's fine, but I don't understand why they just didn't tell us that on January 4th so that we are not here waiting. They even sent us the contract to sign back then. If you're ok to have a company that works like a guy that you contracted off the street then this company works fine, but we did specifically look for a reputable company so we can work with professionals. I referred one friend over earlier on, but I have since told the rest of my friends not to use this company, because there are definitely better options out there and if it's a price thing, the other solar companies are willing to match.
jul t.I owe this review to Logan and Lloyd for a while now. Ive
been deployed for a while and didn't get a chance to leave
a review before I left on deployment. I already had solar
from a veteran owned company but the panels they
estimated was not nearly enough from my home's energy
needs. I also learned that my current inverter was maxed
out and cant install more panels without changing the
entire inverter. So I got a hold of Logan and his system fit
my needs and budget. I got my install completed over a
couple of weeks. Im almost double my power production
and paid the same compared to my older system. I also
had Logan install my Nema 14-50 outlet before I even got
my EV delivered. Thank you Logan and Lloyd for working
with me I hope to be a return customer in the future.
Maybe a solar car port for my driveway? I cant
recommend Smart Solar enough!
Jake T.Smart Solar Design is a pleasure to work with. They provide excellent and timely communication throughout the solar design and installation process. They also educate the customer about solar industry current events such as NEM2 - NEM3 transition and implications and shady business practices used by less than ethical companies. Shout out to Taylor R. for being my key point of contact and being very communicative throughout the process, and Luis S. for getting my panels turned ON ASAP.
Smart Solar is a smaller solar installer, so they are able to provide a higher level of service than the larger businesses. Importantly, they do not contract out the installation to a third party, so if anything goes wrong you know exactly who to call. They were able to beat the price quote of competitors too!
This is the first full month of having solar, but my SDGE bill went from ~$450/month to $4/month and I am producing a surplus of energy. Now I feel the need to buy another EV so that I can use up all my free electricity. At this rate, the solar will pay for itself in 4 years!
Thanks Smart Solar - highly recommended!
P.S. avoid door-to-door solar sales people otherwise you will overpay!
I have great experience with Smart solar team from the designer to the installation team. Thanks
Tanya Z.I got the pleasure to work with Yash! He thoroughly went through the education on how Solar works with me as well as showed me what to look out for. I shopped around and no one offers the service that Smart Solar has to offer as well as it being the best on the market! I highly recommend getting a quote from them!
Milo S.Knowledgeable, attentive, within expected time-frames on everything, and so effortless on my part. I never even went to the house (my rental property); they took care of everything after my tenant took a few photos of the electrical box. Most of all, I felt really informed before signing the contract, thanks to Kelly's educating me and Lloyd & Logan's thorough analysis of the house. A totally positive experience and it's already paying for itself.
Oh, and we raised the rent less than the tenants' average electric bill so it's win/win for both landlord and tenant as that rent increase slowly pays off the installation while raising the house value.
Andrew K.We had our solar installed by Smart Solar. The process started in November 2020 and wasn't finished until Jan/Feb 2021. The installer gave us a brand new panel and then one of their personnel shocked themselves (he's ok). The company insisted that he continue to work. Then they attempted to tell us that everything was fine with the panel and wouldn't replace it. Then and the city inspector were at odds and finally when the panel blew up again, I demanded a new panel. One was finally installed and about 4 month after starting the process our solar was finished.
The sales rep was professional at first, but became rude and condescending when told we were going with someone else. He also presented outdated facts, linked to disingenuous reviews in attempts to disparage other companies, and used dubious math to try and disprove any advantages from other vendors.
I tried to engage respectfully, assuming he might just be young and new in the business. Eventually I just ignored him.
More than two years later, after the company we went with went out of business, he reached out to basically gloat that we'd made the wrong choice. He inadvertently included an email chain with a previous customer - which makes me concerned about how secure anything I'd originally sent to him might have been.
There are a lot of solar companies out there. I'd avoid working with ones who think this kind of behavior from a sales rep is acceptable.
