I have used Gene McCormick Construction for about a dozen jobs on both my own home and rental properties. He has also performed work for my close friends.

I continue to use and recommend Gene McCormick Construction.

Gene is not perfect, but fair; and the quality of work is pretty good. And like most other trades, the behavior is one of a contractor. I guess because I have work with trades people over the years I don't get as easily annoyed as others.

I'll add that there is one review posted on here that I will say the poster is a liar. She and her husband did not hire the contractor, I did. Her and her husband destroyed my rental home to the point they were being evicted. Because they were being evicted they refused to allow access to this contractor in the middle of a job.

While the contractor was working the tenant was rude and crude allowing their barefoot children inside the work area. I had to beg him to complete the work as this family is as low as it gets. He was willing to forgo his sunk cost. Through the tenants carelessness and destructive behavior they put holes in walls, broke electrical outlets, removed doors, and when they FINALLY vacated left jugs filled with urine, broken windows, and a level of filth that would make a homeless camp proud. Do not trust anything these former tenants say.

Scam artist. Business shows up as closed but he is working under the table. He was a jerk from the moment he picked up the phone until I kicked him off the job site. He showed up late to I stall the solar on a big project of ours. He was rude to our Mexican workers making inappropriate comments. When I asked him to stop he threatened me so we had to removed him physically from the site.

Unprofessional and disappointed many of my clients. Wont refer business to this company any further.

I wouldn't even give them 1 star if yelp would allow it. The owner lacks professionalism and he did a very poor job on the installation of our kitchen floor/subfloor, molding, installation of a sink, and wall repair. All of his work is subpar. We would not have even used him but our landlord insisted on using him in spite of his poor reputation and our complaints. He and his worker took a shop vac of my husband's from our garage without our permission and used it to clean up their mess in our kitchen. Little did they know, our shop vac does not have a filter and hence why my husband ONLY uses it in the garage and outside and they blew the dirt and dust all over my kitchen. They also broke the door on our dishwasher and the handle on my stove when they moved them to install the floor. They also punched a hole in the bathroom door by pushing it in so hard it hit the toilet.
They left their lunch trash in my front yard and they threw their tools into my flower bushes crushing my plants. They never apologized for any of this. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a contractor. The floor they installed already has rips and dents from day one. Also the sink they installed doesn't even line up with the light it's all off center.

Yikes!

This guy is missing a nice ""gene"". Called to see if he could help and hung up before I could even explain my purpose. Glad I came to Yelp to verify that he is a one star contractor. On to the next.

Good luck guy!

Would not use this shady excuse for a contractor. Cuts corners and does not pay his help. 2 weeks with no pay, just excuses. You will get what you pay for .

Beware! This is one seriously bad contractor. The quality of his work is awful; we contracted him to build cabinets and it soon became apparent that he had never built them before. His employees would quit on him often due to his loud, racist comments and atrocious behavior, and thus the job progressed extremely slowly. When he finally tried to hire more people at our insistence, they ended up drinking on the job, which led us to the discovery that Gene had let his workers compensation and liability insurance lapse near the beginning of the project. He was asked to leave the property and the cops had to be called multiple times to handle his erratic behavior. The job was left half done and the whole thing took twice as long as another contractor would have taken.

I agree with Dale T's earlier review 100% on this one, and I really wish I had checked Yelp before hiring Gene. Do not hire this man, SERIOUSLY.

I paid Gene McCormick a substantial (60%) deposit for 3 windows for my home. After months of endless delays, excuses and unreliable communication, he brought the windows to install. He arrived several hours late. When I expressed my discomfort with leaving him and a laborer that he did not know to work alone in my home, he got very angry and put my windows back in his truck and drove off. He told me that my custom ordered windows were 'damaged' (which they were not except for one minor flaw on one) so he would return them to the store to get his money back. However, he did not refund my window deposit. Then he threatened to sue me if he saw anyone at my home doing a painting job that I had previously agreed to let him do contingent upon completion of the window installation. He ignored all requests to return my money. I deeply regret hiring Gene McCormick Construction and would like to prevent others from having a similar experience.
