Recommended Customer Reviews

Reading these reviews, I don't feel as bad. I thought it was just my family that Mark disrespected. We hired Mark to do 2 houses after Hurricane Irma and, almost a year later, both still have leaks. We had done business with Mark before and although he was ""direct"" we felt loyal to him. Alarms were pretty loud when his employees were bad mouthing him and making claims that they worked day to day because they never knew if they would be paid even though our deposit checks were cashed quickly. In addition the the bad reviews by his employees the mess left behind was beyond bad. We too experienced the ""We will be by (insert date) only to be surprised to find the garage clocked by his equipment days before. There is no accurate communication when there is communication.
I submitted another request to address roof leaks last weekend and got excuses about a truck with no brakes and the final part of a voicemail ""it is what it is"". I was told he would be by to investigate the end of this week. It's the end of the week and we have not heard form him nor seen him. Therefore, I guess next week we hire a reputable roofer and pay for quality work. I'm tired of having furniture pushed against the wall to protect it from leaks and wet towels all over the floor. This doesn't include the massive repairs to my kitchen sink that I cant begin until the leak is fixed.
Mark offers a warranty but what good is it if he wont come to inspect his poor workmanship. We will never give his name to anyone looking for a roofer - not even our enemies. We will give our hard earned cash to people that understand the concept of ""customer to contractor"" and the concept of at least being nice to your customer. So, in summary, I'd avoid this company. ""It is what it is"". I'm off to post my comments on the BBB now!

It is too bad they do not have a -1 value because that would be more accurate. I got an estimate from Mark Gelling the owner of the company to remove and reinstall my roof and replace the rotted sheath on the eyelash. He was the lowest estimate and told me how great their work was and how many billions of years he had been in the business-butter wouldn't have melted in his mouth but oh so different a story once the work started. I told him not to start the job till Monday and Thursday he shows up with all this stuff and throws it in my driveway. Our community was having a yard sale that weekend and I was participating. I went out and told him he was not suppose to start till Monday as I had told him before. He left everything in my way but moved the trailer. (He doesn't listen) When I hired him I told him I wasn't paying not one penny more then the estimate so don't try to up the bill. I told him I would not pay for wood as I don't have any rotted wood. Nothing was wrong with my roof just the insurance would not insure because of the age. It took 4 days to complete and when he came and said he would be over to collect they were done I went up on the roof to inspect it. There was trash, tools, nails, shingles that were a different color from what I had and the rotted wood was still there. The roof looked shoddy, workmanship was terrible. I pointed it out to him and he didn't have any explanation. When he showed up I took him up there to see and I told him he had not completed the job and I wasn't going to pay until he did what he said. The code inspector did not pass the roof so he begrudgingly sent over someone to do it. I wasn't allowing him on my property at this point because he had threatened me, called me a bitch, said I wasn't going to screw him out of his money and just was beligerent. I cleaned up my driveway and yard picking up all the nails and trash. The second inspector passed the roof and never even looked at it just pencil whipped it. I saw him as did the worker who was working on the roof when he jumped out of his truck and initialed the paperwork. Now just weeks later (the first rain)I have a roof leak and Mark Gelling was totally ignoring my calls and mails. I just received a mail from him demanding payment and refusing to repair even though he supposedly guarantees his work for 5 years(NOT) . I paid him for the roof minus a wall plug he broke and my antenna which they dragged their cords over and broke. It was a minimal amount with no installation just the cost of the items.DO not use this Company to do your Roof. I should have looked at these complaints before hiring him. He is a shyster and not to be trusted, his company does shoddy work, and he is Extremely unprofessional.

We had our house reshingled but caused more of a headache than anything. I'd rather pay more money for less of a headache. Wouldn't hire them again.
Issues:
1. They covered up our dryer vent with shingles. So here's me trying to dry clothes and borderline starting a fire in our house. We bought a new $600 dryer thinking our dryer was broken. Nope. We had to hire a different company to come in and tell us that the roofers covered the vent up entirely because Gelling couldn't figure that out. After going back and forth with Gelling and not having a dryer for 4 weeks, they finally came in to put the vent in.
2. Hundreds of nails all over our yard that weren't picked up.
3. Some how managed to break one of our yard sprinklers with their ladder.
4. I know **** happens but it downpoured rain in between their shifts, and they failed to seal the tarps so we ended up with 3 huge leaks inside the house with puddles on the floor. We had to repaint our ceilings and make sure mold wouldn't be an issue.
5. The weather got a little chilly to the point that they had to stop shingling until it got warmer out. The north facing portion of the house has shingles that are buckling due to the cold and look horrible which they never fixed. Gelling said once it got hot enough they should lay down flat. It's been 80-85 degrees for 2+ weeks and they are still buckled up.
6. Permit is still open after 2 months and they have yet to send an inspection guy out here.

RIP OFF! Do not use Mark Gelling Roofing. 3 months after he put a roof on my house I noticed water leaking down my chimney in the garage. He REFUSED TO EVEN COME LOOK! He had been paid and was done. He told me I was being stupid and the roof job wasn't the problem. Did I mention he refused to even come back to the house and look? He hung up on me. STAY AWAY!!!!!

Mark convinced me to buy 40 year ELK shingles for my home. They are shot after 10 years and Mar Gelling will not do anything about it?? He will repair the faulty vents he installed for $240.00?? STAY AWAY !!!
