This is a long post. I am putting this here because I would appreciate a heads up if this happened to one of my neighbors. Also, the pictures in the comments speak for themselves:

We hired Goliath Exteriors last fall to paint the exterior of our home. After waiting several months, they came to paint our house in January. The paint did not adhere properly to our home and began to peel within a month of the application. We reached out to Kelly immediately to let her know the paint was bubbling and peeling. Kelly looked at the paint and agreed to have her team scrape and repaint the peeling areas. She also said a Sherwin Williams rep could come to offer an opinion. Ok, no problem!

-The next week while we were out of town, the crew came back to repair the paint. David also met with the rep from Sherwin Williams while we were out of town. This is when our problems really began:

    - Kelly told us that the SW rep's position was that the condition of our paint was not due to the paint or application, but to the condition of our cedar siding. Let me mention at this point that we paid Goliath several thousand dollars for wood repair (in addition to the paint job, nearly $8000 total) and gave them free license to replace as much wood as they needed to. Never at any point did they express any concern about the condition of the siding or advise us not to paint it.

-When I pointed out that the deck, which is NOT cedar was also peeling, Kelly told me that it was due to walking on the deck. Again, this was within a month of the application.

-When we came home we found that the areas they were supposed to scrape and repaint had only been painted over. They were continuing to peel. The problems on our deck had not been touched at all as evidenced by the fact that our patio furniture had not been moved. It was spring by this point and there was an undisturbed layer of pollen under our porch rug.

    - When we reached out to let them know the touch up hadn't worked, David and Kelly offered to let the paint ""settle"" (??) and come back later in the summer to touch up again. Very soon after this a major thunderstorm came through and the paint began to peel off the house in large strips. My husband reached out to Kelly in alarm, and she completely handed to situation over to David.

-It took almost a week for David to meet with my husband. When he did, my husband told him that another touch up job was not going to suffice. David continued to claim that Goliath was not at fault, but offered to give our money back to have someone else do the work. This would have been an ok outcome, but wait, there is more.

-We then received a very annoyed email from David explaining all the ways his company had done nothing wrong, basically claiming that we were somehow at fault for the problems with the paint, that they had touched up and we still weren't happy, etc. (Of course we weren't happy. We paid $8000 for paint that was literally falling off of our house!!!) Via this email he offered to refund us $3500. He has deducted the woodwork, which was fine, but was going to charge us $2600 for paint. (The thing that adds insult to injury here is that Goliath kept our leftover paint)

-We had at this point received several opinions about our paint situation and the concern that came up over and over from other contractors was that the paint was applied in January, when it was very rainy and cold (Temp in the 20's some nights). My husband had even noted that the crew had been out on some nights drying the decks with heat guns before it got dark. We had expressed this concern to David, and in his email he told us we should go talk to a SW store to get our ""facts straight"" on this point.

-At his suggestion, we did go to the SW store, and the store manager said that there was no such thing as paint peeling being somehow our fault. He suggested reaching out to the SW rep involved directly. We did.

-The SW rep came and met with us. When we showed him actual temperature and weather reports from the time our house was being painted, he offered to supply the paint to resolve the issue. I must say, the SW rep was awesome and handled this really well. He sent several paint companies to give us quotes on having the house repainted, including the one we went with.

    - The quote we went with was for $4500. David agreed to refund us $4000, but ""no more"" (his words).

-At the end of the day we took the refund to stay out of a lawsuit situation, but are still pretty upset by having to come out of pocket with $500 to have their work fixed, as well as the way this was all handled. I feel that Goliath should have just owned this. They should either repainted the house in appropriate weather rather than trying to bandaid the situation and deflect blame, or they should have returned all of our money, minus wood repair, and worked it out with Sherwin Williams themselves for the paint refund. Can not recommend this company.
