A contractor that returns phone calls, shows up when promised and does the work as intended. Seems like a rarity so far in our home renovation but J Saber did all that. Jay is easy to work with, attentive to details and very organized. He came out for the estimate and was working away within a week. The entire operation went smoothly with a crew of 3 or 4 guys.

Since purchasing my home 2 years ago, I have been dealing with a leak over the living room. After my home warrantee company sent a roofer that actually put nail holes throughout the roof, I called J Saber Roofing when the rainy season revealed a worsening problem. We had a week of missed communications while he was recuperating from what sounded like a nasty bug, but when we were able to finally connect on the phone he was easy to talk to and immediately got us scheduled for a consult. When he actually showed up on time and provided us with a detailed breakdown I was ecstatic: we had already dealt with a couple no-call/no-shows with other local roofers.

Jay's team replaced two of our skylights, including rebuilding the housings, the surrounding flashing and shingles. We still have one of the original skylights in place and the difference is night and day: the work that J Saber Roofing did is fantastic. They not only managed to match the trim color on the skylight housing (which looks much straighter than the original issue) but they matched the surrounding shingle perfectly so that the work blends in 100% with the existing roof.

We had rain the week after the install and, much to my relief, experienced no leak whatsoever. When I get around to replacing the last existing skylight, I will call Jay without any hesitation.

Shout out to jay saber. He gave me an estimate to do our house and studio and while it wasn't the lowest price, his schedule worked with mine. His crew showed up when they were supposed to, the repair work he did, in preparation for the new roofs was well documented and reasonable. Work was done on time.
a couple months later during some heavy storms we experienced some leaking around a window. I called jay and he came by the next day. We discussed the possible causes and while he didn't think it was directly related to the roofing, but had to do with the window itself, he offered to Recaulk some joints just in case. We'll see if this fixes it, but his rapid response and offer to do some remedial work, goes a long way in my book.

We called on J Saber Roofing to do a small job, moving two vents on our roof so that we could install a Solar System. No problem. Jay, the owner came that day, gave us a reasonable bid, and put us on the calendar for the following week. They showed up on time, and the crew was capable, friendly, and quick. Next on our list is to roof our garage. Jay gave us a quote, and we're accepting it without getting other bids. We're confident that he is giving us a fair price. Roofing is a specialization, so we feel it's important to hire a roofer who has a competent crew and stands behind their work. We like J Saber Roofing.

Jay Saber did a great job on my difficult roof (very low pitch, weird angles and joints, covered by dropping debris) that had leaked for years after repeated attempts at repair by another local area large roofing company. He knew how to fix it properly, explained it in detail, bid less than the other local leader, and got the job done quickly and properly.

J Saber did not work on my roof....but I'll give him points simply for replying to me, visiting my roof and determining he would rather not do the work due to scheduling issues.

Given the absolutely pathetic responses, or lack, from most all other local roofers I contacted, I feel safe in recommending J Saber simply because he was straight with me. I met him, I liked him.

I would caution anyone seeking roof work in this geographic area to exercise extreme caution given the flim-flam nature of the others purporting to work on roofs.

I recently hired Jay's firm to diagnose the cause of a persistent roof look and fix the problem(s). My experience with Jay and his crew was topnotch from start to finish. I especially appreciated Jay's clarity of communication and follow-through; he did what he said he'd do and in the time-frame he promised. Do I need to say how rare and refreshing that level of professionalism is? BTW, the rains haven't started yet so I can't say for sure the roof problem has been solved. However, the repairs Jay recommended made perfect sense and I'm confident the leak won't recur. I'm also confident that if something isn't right with the roof when the rains start I can count on Jay to take care of it.

I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains in a wildland fire zone and saw the 2008 fire near my house burn for several days. This fire created its own micro climate in the valleys and ridges where it destroyed sevral houses. To avoid this happening to me I researched the internet for fire safe construction and found the 1995 Fine Home Building Article entitled ""Fire-Resistant Details"". This article gave me a working understanding of the problems to be solved when remodeling your home to be fire safe. With the principals, goals, and objectives identified, I interviewed materials suppliers, local building officials, and engineers to quality assure in my design theory, and seek their views on selecting local contractors to perform the work.

I learned that not only does a roof need to be Class A fire resistant in terms of being constructed out of non-combustible materials, but should also function as a thermal barrier to minimize the interior of the house heating up and catching fire from the inside. This is also the case for the walls and windows as pracicable. Furthermore, I discovered my cathedral celing/roof was unvented, and perhaps the cause of some moistrue problems and excessing heat build-up issues.

With all this information in mind, I prepared a preliminary plan to solicit contractor bids from.

Based on my enginnering background I decided to hire the most quilified contractors for my new stucco siding and metal roof. For the roofing contractor I prioritized the following qualities:

1. Technical knowledge of roof design in fire zones and hot climate zones (since I am concerned about future Califorinia droughts & Hot spells).
2. Working relationships with material suppliers and their technical support staff.
3. Years of relevant experience and references
4. Ability to work with me to develope the final roof design and contract
5. Cost effectiveness and cost competeive

All of this considered I selected J. Saber Roofing; and proceeded with a very clear contract that provided for timely completion and the potential for problems typically discovered during construction.

The roofing project took ten days to complete as expected, and included some repair work discovered when the old roof was removed. I also elected to repalce the gutter and downspoute so as to match the quality of the new roof. All extra work was fairly priced with advance notice to think about it.

I am more than satisfied; my house with its new dark green metal roof looks great and blends in the the native Redwood trees in my area. The house also feels cooler during these recent hotter summer days due to the improved venting incorporated into the roof design recommended by J. Saber Roofing. I am also more confident that my house will survive future wildland fires and be more comfortable during hot spells without air conditioning.
