I have had a poor experience with this company. Firstly, they were a referral from a roofer as the BEST in waterproofing. They took months to come water test my house. They cut holes inside in the drywall, which they never repaired, and charged $1800 instead of the $450 in the contract.
I paid it, because I need the specific repair work done and did not want to ruffle feathers.
HOWEVER, it was like pulling teeth to get an estimate to do the work, and took months just to get that estimate. I was told Darrell was on vacation for a month in the middle of all that.
Then, an estimate came that was more like an outline, and definitely not specific enough for anyone to pick up the baton and do the work except them.
I did see some of the iPad results of the water test, and believe that much to have been competent. It's the follow through that is TERRIBLE. I still don't get call backs.
I should say that my home is a beautiful home with a panoramic roofdeck, tiled fully, with multiple large solarium windows, and a built in tiled jacuzzi spa and outdoor kitchen. It is stunning, but is still only under $1200 square feet.
I finally received a more itemized estimate for $480,000.00. Yes, you read that right. They want to rip off the entire top of my house and re-do. But, even for that, it does seem excessive. I called to discuss, and nobody every called me back. That was months ago.
I am disappointed and do no see how they are in business, but I think an estimate like this says they are intimidated by this job.
Had I known how this would go, I'd have at least held them to the original bid on the water test. Because if all they want to do is start over, why even to the water test? AND, if you pay for a specific service, it should be in a format that can be shared with other contractors. I have ZIP from them for $1800.
I would not be leaving this review if they had been conversant and did follow up as one would respect for the amount of time and money spent.

We used this company when a U-Haul truck ran into the building. The repair on the stucco was fine at first, but started cracking. I ask them to come back and fix it twice, but no response. We paid them over $10k for the job...I don't recommend them to anyone.

Ewell construction repaired a tear in rubber that seals the air conditioner to the roof. They gave me a quote on the spot then commenced to do the repair immediately. They did a great job, reasonably priced. No more leaking from that hole and also said my roof is old, but in good shape.

I had Ewell Construction replace my second floor free standing balcony as the original was deteriorating. Darrell provided a detailed plan and quote for the entire job up front and his team executed it as described. Ewell took care of everything, including the engineering and permit discussions with the city. There were no significant surprises, no unexpected cost uppers. The inspection went off without a hitch. Given that this is a load bearing structure I wanted someone I could depend upon and the construction is first rate. I was able to view much of the work from start to finish and can say they did not cut corners. In addition, I was impressed that they carried out the job in a highly safe manner; this was not a simple effort and my first priority is to crew safety and they were quite careful. When necessary they communicated well ahead of when a decision needed to be made, so there was no rework. The final result is excellent, exactly as promised and I'm very satisfied. I would recommend Ewell for similar work. My thanks to the entire team.

Ewell Construction did some balcony repair and waterproofing and also some roof repair for us. The work was top notch and priced fairly. The crew was on the job every day and they seemed happy with their jobs. The years of experience the owner has made the job go smoothly with no unexpected change orders. He was fair to work with and I'd use Ewell again.

This company specializes in finding that difficult to find leak into your building. There are lots of roofing and deck contractors who will perform work in attempt to resolve issue. This company does a water test for a fee that will find the leak(s) and will do the repairs based on a contractural estimate guaranteeing their work for a three year period. They are very busy and you will have to wait for them to schedule you into their work schedule (a good sign). They are not cheap but quality work by s family company around for 40 years costs good money. Completely happy with people who did the work!

We've had a pesky leak for years, and the crew at Ewell Construction were the only ones who could finally diagnose it--it was in our deck planters.

Jaime was great and he and his crew really took their time (all day!) to make sure they checked everything possible.

Then we hired Ewell to do the repairs, and again, the crew went above and beyond. They kept coming back to apply another coat of sealant, then they fixed and painted our damaged ceiling drywall.

The crew was always on time, friendly, and hard-working.

Also, their front office (Ana and Chasen) are exceptional. Their bids and reports are detailed and include photos.

The fact that they are booked up should tell you they are in demand, but trust me, they were worth the wait!

Plus, you get a 3-year warranty for their work.

I would not recommend Ewell Construction.
They had to come out to repair the same bedroom leak twice because of poor workmanship.
They also repaired and resurfaced one of our decks and charged us twice the amount as other companies that worked on the rest of our decks.

I have been doing business with Darrell and his team for 20 years. They are the only contractors that have really earned my trust and respect. Ana, office support, is incredible. She is a great communicator and great with customers. The work that Ewell has done for me covers many areas, new patio(s), leaks, paint and general maintenance. They are always on time, take special caution to ensure safety and will take care of your property.

We used Ewell for a water test last year and were really disappointed with the work done. At the end of the day, these guys completely don't pinpoint every leak and completely overdo it on recommendations for repair.

When a 1x1 patch of my roof has a leak, I don't expect a recommendation to redo 30 square feet on my roof. Additionally, these guys claimed I had flashing leaking left and right, recommending thousands in repairs. When the workers were here actually doing the tests, they were not able to point out one place the flashing was failing. So, again, to see thousands of dollars in redoing flashing is total BS.

The report took them two weeks to produce after the testing was done, which calls in to question how fresh the work was on their minds. Further it took about 6 emails to get the report out of them. This report was less of a report and more of a bid for doing a bunch of work and should have been returned within a day or two.

When I talked to the owner, Ewell, the attitude was, ""Well all this work is necessary to guarantee no leaks"". The problem with that attitude is an entire new roof could give me that guarantee. The whole point of hiring them to do a water test is to pinpoint EXACT locations failing and fix those. Not scratch their heads and bid excessive amounts of work.

In 2 of the 5 locations the recommended doing over 15K of work, I used caulking and Henry's patch and didn't have a single leak come back over Winter. If all I had to do was spend $20 in materials and take 3 hours of time every other year, I'd gladly go that route over 15K for BS work.
