The other recent reviews are exactly consistent with our extremely positive experience with EM Roofing. The work was started and finished exactly on time. The grounds were cleaned up daily. Eduardo offered choices when decisions had to be made. (""Did we want to cover the gutters? Here are some options, and here's what they cost."") His team made us aware of problems as they came up, offered options to solve the problem, and then fixed the problem. They found an abandoned furnace vent from an old furnace installation. The last roofer (21 years ago) just replaced the aluminum vent cover and moved on. Eduardo's team showed us the problem, then removed the ductwork and covered the hole. I'm sure our energy bills will drop now that there is no hole in the roof! The team was delightful and very focused on customer satisfaction. On top of all that, his quote was 30% below the next-lowest quote, and 40% below the highest quote we received. We can't recommend Eduardo and EM Roofing highly enough.

I am another owner in the HOA project referenced by Astor, but EM Roofing's work was so good that I want add another review. There were several factors which make EM Roofing uniquely good:
Every single other contractor only knew how to do one technique for re-roofing, and wanted to apply it to our whole roof, although it is partly flat roof and partly sloped roof. EM Roofing proposed two different techniques, and this allowed to get the best solution for everyone.
These two technical solutions were better than anyone else, and clearly harder work to deploy - but the end result is tremendously better, in particular for heat and noise insulation, but also expected lifetime of the roof.
EM Roofing was incredibly patient, and spent as much time as needed to address the questions of all owners - of which there were many. And during the execution of the project, they were incredibly open to adjust the work to new ideas and to make the project as good as possible.
During the project, they made sure that there work was impeccable. I am very detail oriented but I realized after a few days that EM Roofing was putting as much care in the roof as if it was their own house - all the way down to the little details and finishing.
Overall, I would give EM Roofing 6 stars if I could - they are simply excellent.

Eduardo and his team just finished our roof. It is beautiful, they were so professional, polite and they did such an excellent job that I had to write something. EM Roofing is so efficient that they completely removed the old roof and put on a new one within three days (on a 2500 sq ft large house). It was like a conductor with an orchestra, the trash truck would pull out and the truck with the new materials came in. Not a minute wasted. What I really liked was the attention paid to the roof over my bay window. Two guys spent 4 hours perfectly sawing felt and roof pieces to perfectly fit the rounded window. It is stunning (it's a wood shake roof). I am very pleased with it, and felt the price was very reasonable. Oh, it was my realtor who recommended Eduardo, he told me he's a great guy with a wonderful team. He was right.

Eduardo and EM Roofing far exceeded my expectation in so many ways -- and I had high expectations. Initially I got bids from 5 roofers. I picked Eduardo for many reasons. I liked that it was a family business and that he had one team so I would know his best people would do the work. He sounded very honest and knowledgable. I was trying to match the roof we liked a couple of blocks away and Eduardo identified the roof as Timberline HD Slate. The only question was HD or HD Ultra, which was difficult to tell as they are very similar.

Ultimately I decided to patch the roof as the part in the front under an oak tree was getting bad but the rest of the house looked OK to me. Eduardo did the repair I asked for in the front and did a few extra things around the rest of the house. Then he gave me a one year warranty on the entire roof, something I was not expecting. When the roof leaked near a skylight, well away from the repair I had asked for, Eduardo came and repaired it for free, which actually surprised me as this was not part of the repair I had asked him to do. I knew then it was time to replace the entire roof.

I decided to go with the HD Ultra, which added about 5% to the job. The roof looks wonderful. So much nicer than the roof we were trying to match, which is on a very high end house. Eduardo used higher grade ridge tiles than this other house. The HD Ultra does add depth to the shingles and makes for a very nice look. Well worth the extra money.

The quality of the roof is outstanding but the workmanship was equally impressive. Every day the crew cleaned up the area around the house. They use a large magnet on a stick to pick up all the nails. Then they go around with a leaf blower and make the place look like the gardener had just been there. They did that every day.

The other thing that was impressive was that I had shakes and there was some rot on the plywood under the overhang, which is a two foot overhang. There were quite a few places that had some rot but it did not go all the way through. It did not seem to be a problem to me as there were going to cover the entire roof with sheet wood so this would all be hidden. The inspector made no mention so they did not have to replace it as far as the city was concerned. But they replaced the rotten sections anyway. And they did this without asking me and without adding to the bill. I asked Eduardo about that and he said something like, just a few sheets of plywood, we aren't going to charge extra for that.

The job called for a roof rafter to be relocated to make a cutout larger for an oak tree that wants to be where the roof should be. The quality of that work was outstanding as well.

When all was said and done, there were three minor things I wanted changed. One was cosmetic, one was to replace a piece of siding that came off with the old roof, and one was an addition of some water diverter that was not part of the contract. One of Eduardo's crew spent most of half a day doing these things, no questions asked, no extra charge.

One final thing. I asked about the one star review as a year ago all the reviews were 5 stars. Eduardo explained that they had called during a big rain storm when he was getting many calls. They left three messages on the same day. Eduardo said he called them back in the order he got their call but they were not happy. You have to remember this is a single crew and you are dealing with a family business. If you want a big company with full time secretaries and estimators who come out to your house and show you a fancy sales pitch, this is not the business you want. If you want the highest quality job with workers you will miss when the job is done, call Eduardo.

This contractor goes beyond the call of duty. He took care of a problem on an adjacent roof structure and didn't charge me. Yay for contractors who know how to be nice and deliver a square deal and more. A rare breed!

Eduardo and his guys just finished replacing the roof on my house in Millbrae and I couldn't be more pleased. The price was very reasonable ($6K less than another outfit for the same roofing!), Eduardo was polite, accommodating and professional, his guys did excellent work, and cleaned up after themselves every day. A top notch firm that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone needing a new roof or roof repair.

We are so glad we selected EM Roofing to replace our roof. It was a job well done in terms of excellent workmanship, ethics, service, and pricing.

We obtained 4 bids by selecting the top 4 yelp rated roofers, plus additional telephone interviews of actual customer references. Of the 4 choices, EM Roofing customers gave the highest verbal recommendations, and EM Roofing also offered the BEST pricing for a job to replace an entire roof, new gutters/down sprouts, and gutter covers.

Eduardo's crew worked diligently and for long hours, amazingly completing 80% of the job in the first 2 days so we had limited exposure to loud construction noises. They cleaned up each day so our property was always kept neat & tidy. There was minor damage done to an outside light from falling debris, but the worker was honest & quick to inform us about the issue & repaired it at the end of the job.

The workers were also attentive to details. They blew away all the leaves in the new gutters before placing the covers over it. We appreciated them for not taking any short cuts.

Our old roof had wood rot and this was shown to us so that we were made aware of the additional expenses needed to replace the wood. However, at the end of the final bill, Eduardo generously did not bill us for this additional cost & we paid only the actual amount of the original bid. NICE!!

Inspection from San Mateo County was smooth & expedient, which was surprisingly pleasant & unexpected because another roofer (not EM Roofing), had told us that they need to have a worker sit outside of our house for an entire day to wait for inspection as SM County does not provide any time range for their inspections. Not true! Eduardo coordinated a 2 hour inspection window so that we were home just in time for inspection of smoke & carbon monoxide alarms. So glad we did not hire that company!

BTW - we asked the SM County inspector to comment on the quality of the roofing job and he gave us a solid thumbs up for it.

Eduardo was always courteous & patient when we asked him endless questions re the job & the warranties. He was also very quick to respond too.

Overall, it was a really positive experience working with Eduardo. We recommend his company without any hesitation.

Excellent! Punctual, thorough, and neat. We recently hired Eduardo and his crew to install a sun tunnel on our flat roof. They did a fantastic job and we love the results! I will certainly hire them again for any future roofing needs!

Looks like I started the following update in late 2011 and never finished it. Here is what I said then:

Just wanted to say that we now are doing a major remodel and based on my good experience with Eduardo and the tarp (in my original review) I asked my contractor to get a bid from EM Roofing. EM's bid was slightly lower than the contractor's regular roofer, so they did use EM.

Last week they did the felting and my contractor, who is very good, said to me, ""These guys are great!"" That praise from a professional makes me feel secure in EM's work and I'm happy we could reward them with a big job after Eduardo was so helpful on our small one.

And now (June 2013)
All is still well with the new roof. And now I would like to declare that Eduardo is a genius for the following reason:

Ever since we moved back into our remodeled house a year ago, we have annoyed by an intermittent sort of deep vibrating sound outside our bedroom on windy days. We tried repeatedly to trace the source but couldn't and neither could our contractor. Since it seemed to be coming from near the roof, we asked Eduardo to come listen for it, and he did that today since it was a little bit windy. After hearing a couple of faint rattles, he said ""I'm going to sit up on the roof until it happens again. That way, I'll be more likely to find the source."" And he did. In about ten minutes, he called me to the FRONT of the house -- 40 feet in front of where the sound was occurring -- and showed me how a tree branch rubbing against a metal cable created a vibration that was carried and amplified all the way back to right outside the bedroom where we were hearing it. Genius! And the amount he charged us for figuring out the source of this long-term problem was ... $0! Thanks again, Eduardo!

I highly recommend EM roofing.

I got three bids for a roof replacement and Eduardo's bid was the lowest. I selected EM because of the great Yelp reviews. He and his crew did a great job. Eduardo is a pleasure to work with -- he accommodated my schedule, was very responsive to my emails and questions, and got the job done on time.

Eduardo just did a second roof replacement for another house. Again, he was great to work with and did a great job. This roof had some complicated angles and took much longer to do than he expected. He was very professional about it and never complained.
