Thanks to Erast, I paid $800 for a repair vs. $10k for the new roof another roofer told me I needed. Erast followed up four months later with a free moisture check to make sure the fix held. He'll give me annual free moisture checks until I really need a new roof. Lovely guy, great service.

Update: Still a loyal customer four years later. This time I got a thorough inspection of the whole house, and I feel confident in the assessment they gave me to keep my house free of moisture. I also feel confident that I'm not getting ripped off. I like doing business with Erast and team.

These guys are awesome! We had to replace our roof and the deck that was on top of it, which we came to find out is almost impossible in this town. For months we searched for a roofing contractor who could do both. One told us up front that he could not. The next four said they could do it but all we could get out of them was bid for the roof. We talked to general contractors and their bids were all around 100K or more! Yikes.

I was also concerned about having two different contractors doing the work, one for the roof and one for the deck because if there was a leak later it would just be bunch of finger pointing. And possible delays between the two projects.

Then we found EcoSmart here on Yelp. They said they could do the roof and the deck, no problem. Erast gave us a single bid for the whole project which was amazingly reasonable after the others we had seen. They were the only ones who did a 'real' moisture test prior to the bid and again after the roof was installed. The service has been awesome, Erast is quick to respond, the crew was friendly, courteous and respectful. The work was all completed as scheduled and we have an awesome wood deck that we can enjoy!

Erast did go way beyond what was expected when he resolved a ceiling plumbing issue in the unit below the roof that was not related to the roof replacement. No other contractor we contacted would have done that!

I learned a lot of things from this experience, the three that stand out:
1. Trust your gut
2. Leave no question unanswered by your contractor
3. Know what to ask

and, no, I am not a robot nor a paid reviewer as some reviewer has suggested that no real person could like these guys! Call them....you won't be sorry.

The roof on our building developed a leak and we received bids from about 5 contractors. We needed to replace the deck on our roof as well, because it was going to come off when the roof was redone. Eco Smart won out because Erast paid very good attention to us and wanted to make sure we were happy with the results. And when it was all said and done we have a new great looking deck and roof. And when an unrelated problem persisted they fixed it for free!

I am a long time home owner of a Victorian in the lower haight. past experiences have made me shy of contractors and I really dreaded the idea of hiring a roofer. well I really lucked out. this was the best home repair work in my experience. it was a massive job. the roof had 3 layers of shingles and the original wood shakes. only the very best materials were used and the workmanship looks great. all paperwork was clear and the management and supervisors were experts...as were the workers. I plan to hire eco-smart in the future for decking and painting...A+++++

WARNING! This company is paying for fake Yelp reviews. They are mostly all 5 stars, mention Armand and talk about the tremendous service.

I called them and someone came out. They said they would diagnose the problems, take pictures, send a report of the necessary fixes and a quote.

All I received was a 3 sentence e-mail with a price. Nothing else. They have subsequently not responded to my e-mails. A complete waste of time.

Note the reviewer Mr. G below who indicates they have no valid CA State Contractors license and no business license. That is the first reason to run away and find another company.

From start to finish Eco Smart was on top of it all! It began from us getting 5 quotes from local contractors to replace our roofing covering. Let's start with the sad story first;

Long story short, we decided to go with the lowest bid at first as we did not have enough money in our HOA fund, it was the biggest mistake we made. The lowest bidding roofer did not answer calls, did not have email and was not on time to start the project. Many excuses later the lowest bidding roofer came in to start the job, we fired them on the spot as soon as I saw one of his guys using my yard as a restroom.
We later found out that the lowest bidder did not have a license, was not insured and planned to pull off a roofing replacement without a permit.

Eco Smart Roofer was unfortunately the highest bidder, we were skeptical at first but then realized that the warranty was twice longer than offered by everyone else, they partnered up with Bay Area Home Inspections and the periodic inspections of our roof is done by BAHI which is highly rated inspection company in Bay Area, 20 years of periodic inspections sound pretty good if you ask me.

They did an amazing job, there were two superintendents on site, I was completely satisfied with the service, we ended up with more dry rot than originally planned for but it all got replaced for free by Eco Smart. These guys are on top of it all and if you want to flight first class through your complicated roofing replacement - fly Eco Smart!

You owe it to yourself and your constituents to at least gives these guys a call. They might actually help to save you money. Here's how they did for me:

We had a leak in the roof. I immediately searched Yelp to look for credible roofing contractors, and this Eco Smart appeared to be consistently trustworthy, so I reached out to them for an estimate. A free consultation was quickly scheduled for within a couple of days of the call; I always appreciate promptness.

Upon coming out(on time, might I add), the kind and friendly contractor(very down to earth gentleman, even asked if we'd like him to take off his shoes!) brought with him an HD tablet camera and started snapping away at the area of our roof. Within minutes he narrowed down the culprit and noted a few other potential issues.

If I gave no other details from there, they would already have warranted anyone's business. What happened next is what truly puts them over the top, in my humble opinion. He pointed out that he since our building is fairly new, by state law all parts and labor on the roof is mandated to be addressed by the original builder for 10 years. He could have easily just given me an estimate for a few hundred dollars to patch the hole and other areas with micro fractures and be done with it, but did the more honest thing.

Ok, then, I thought to myself, but I don't want to bother getting the builder to do it for me--it was during the rainy season, and I just wanted to get it done asap, not go through them, as I have had difficulties getting their prompt attention in the past. I bring this up to Eco Smart Roofer: ""I'd rather just pay and have you do the work because I feel like I trust you more."" He insisted on getting the builder because some roof warranties may be VOIDED if any third party work is done on it at all other than from the original builder!!! He said that they would be glad to do the work if the builder can guarantee in writing that others would be allowed to work on it without voiding the warranty. That made perfect sense to me, so I went ahead and did that.

After a lot of badgering and following up(it was as ridiculous as I imagined), the builder did eventually get the job done, and I ended up paying $0. That is a testament of how honorable Eco Smart Roofer is. I learned some important lessons just from chatting with them for a few minutes.

So should you find yourself in a situation where you need to contact a reluctant builder to take responsibility for your roofing problems, remember the parable of the persistent widow:
""In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'
""For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually come and attack me!'""

That turned out to be the right strategy for me.

What else can I say about a company on a mission to save a planet one roof at a time? Great!

No, it wasn't cheap to go with Eco Smart but yes, they are that good! I'm obsessive compulsive when it comes to service, it just must be done smart and it must be done right. Eco Smart Roofers did not disappoint and I knew where every penny went.

In a way it's like buying a Tesla, you pay premium to live smarter. This company did not cheap out on anything and went above and beyond proposed scope. The communication was easy and precise, our property was protected all the way and strangely enough - the whole experience was very pleasant and enjoyable.

Go with this contractor and you'll be treated with respect. Eco Smart stand up to its name with pride.

I had Eco Smart Roofers repair my roof after it leaked this spring. Other roofers I called said it would be a few weeks before they could come to give an estimate, or that I would have to pay for the estimate. Eco Smart came the day after I called, and they gave me a free estimate along with pictures of the damaged areas on the roof. They were very responsive to phone calls and emails, they patiently answered all my questions, and they came just a few days later to perform the work. They were professional and quick, and they showed me pictures of the repair work they had done. They also gave me a three year warranty that comes with periodic inspections, so I don't have to worry about my roof until it is time to replace it (the roof is already 15 years old). I would strongly recommend Eco Smart Roofers to anyone who wants to be sure their roof repair/replacement is done right. Peace of mind is a valuable thing.
