According to Dura-foam, this type of roof can be used on a relatively flat roof.

Pro: light (a big advantage in earthquake area), energy efficient (the house is much cooler inside during the summer), less expensive.
Con: don't look expensive. If you sell your house, you need to educate your realtor on the advantage of this roof.

Give the company four stars because: 1) the cost increased quite a bit over the years 2) lack clear definition on what degree of slope is considered flat and foam roof can be installed.

We love our Dura-Foam roof! 8 years ago we had a Dura-Foam roof installed onto our 50-year-old Castro Valley house, replacing the tar-and-gravel. We were thrilled with how cool our house stayed on hot days. And, we could no longer the jets that fly over our neighborhood on the way to OAK. Fast forward to this year when we had a protective re-coating applied. Dura-Foam's price was better than the competition's. They were responsive to our request for a quote. They scheduled the work and had it done without us having to be there. I waited 5 days before walking on it to look for problems; I was so pleased with how nice it looked, like new. And there was no mess; if there was one after the work, they had cleaned it all up.

I would recommend SPF roofs to anyone who has an Eichler or similar low-pitched roof. And, I would recommend Dura-Foam as a good company with professional staff and a quality product.

All I can say is buyer beware. The product itself is great. The company management and their backing of their work is why you should run the other way. They portray to be roofing experts but when a problem arises they pull every trick in the book to put the problem back on the backs of the homeowner. They portrayed to me that an inspection was not needed for my flat roof on my home. Because I listened to them, I did not know that the drains in my flat roof were too small and not up to code. During a heavy rain, they plugged and flooded which caused about $80k damage to my house. Dura-Foam's management response when I requested then to split cost to bring my roof up to code (which would have been about $3k to them) was ""you should have known better"".

Read your contract. Pay for independent inspectors. Get detailed installation plans before work begins or before you sign a thing. Don't make the same assumption I did and believe that they have your best interests in mind. Once you add up these costs and then account for all the shortcuts...you are much better off going else ware.

After Dura-Foam installed my roof in 2014, I noticed improved energy savings and stability of interior temperature. Randy Feriante worked with me through the roof specification and sales process, addressing various details around a number of parapet walls, pool solar, HVAC equipment and vents. When a leak occurred last winter, two Dura-Foam technicians soon arrived on a Saturday to troubleshoot. We found that water was leaking at the HVAC equipment. Although the area of the leak was not a result of Dura-Foam work, they took responsibility by investigating work performed by a referred HVAC contractor and developed a long term solution. I was impressed by the company's responsiveness and ability to resolve this issue.

I've managed semiconductor facilities in the Bay Area for 10 plus years and it's my experience that Dura-Foam has turned out to be the most economic roofing solution for commercial manufacturing and office facilities. You can expect heating and cooling costs to drop about 30% with the polyurethane foam roof systems which should make anyone feel good about running a more 'GREEN' business.. Since the roof surface is white and smooth, it is easy to spot any area of potential concern. I had technicians come out to perform touch-ups after a solar install (40K roof section of 72K) for just $500 in time plus material work. The touch up work is quick. When people run the numbers for total cost of ownership a dura-foam roof is a no brainer. PLUS you always want to do business with good people - Jarom and other folks at Dura-Foam are great. 5 STARS

Recently moved into our home that had a flat foam roof. Never had a flat/foam roof before and so had to do a fair bit of research to understand the in's/out's of a flat roof. The roof needed some repairs and a resurfacing, which was highlighted in our home inspection, after about eight years since any prior roof work had been done under the home's previous owners. I contacted several foam roofers for quotes and recommendations and even worked with a water-proofing expert to see if there were other viable alternatives to foam. I ended up working with Jarom, the President of Dura Foam. He gave the roof a thorough analysis (which he personally inspected), provided a thorough proposal, including warranty coverage, and his estimate was competitive. I decided to award the business to Dura-Foam, despite some hesitancy given some of the reviews here.

The Dura-Foam crew was courteous, knew what they were doing, cleaned up well and completed the all work ahead of schedule. The work included, re-sloping to improve water flow, new flashing, installing an A/C pad and raising skylights, in addition to resurfacing and resealing. Jarom returned after the job was completed and we reviewed the work and recommended maintenance together on the roof itself. During the review, Jarom and the small crew he was with found a couple of small areas for touch up and fixed them on the spot.

All in all, we've had a very good experience dealing with Dura-Foam.

For my new home in Foster City, I sought an efficient and reliable roof system as a first priority.

Through the sales and installation process, Dura-Foam met my needs and provided a very positive experience. As I compared competing quotes, Dura-Foam emerged as the best choice for product, reputation, price and payment options. Researching the company, I found that Dura-Foam roofs last remarkably longer than other roof types.

While tar-and-gravel roofs often wear out in 7-10 years, I am told Dura-Foam roofs installed since the company's inception in 1981 are still fully functional after 35 years.

As for reputation, Dura-Foam has been in business under the same name and same family-based management far longer than any other Foam Roofing company in the Bay Area.

Comparing competing proposals, I found that Dura-Foam provided the best value among foam roofing competitors. Their sales person, La Mont, provided very helpful 3rd party financing and payment options which helped me fund other upgrades which needed to occur in conjunction with roof replacement such as added skylights and electrical circuits.

In the not too distant future, I plan to install Solar as well. Conveniently, Dura-Foam has a Solar Center which installs PV Solar while maintaining all roof guarantees and integrated system integrity.

Overall, Dura-Foam Roofing & Solar Center has won my 5-star recommendation

DuraFoam does exceptional work to say the least! I went through an insurance claim for storm damage on my flat roof and called DuraFoam to repair and reroof. La Mont in sales worked with me on all the fine details and quoted the project. During their busy season, they were able to accommodate me in their tight schedule. The work started very soon. Francisco, the foreman, did a wonderful job of educating me on the process. The entire crew were very professional, considerate and caring. Jarom, the CEO, came out to scope the project and gave some helpful tips on structural elements. The project only took a couple days to complete even with the rain on the forecast. Francisco and team came back to apply the sealer and coating after the foam was applied. The roof looks amazing and I could finally walk on my flat roof without worrying about falling through! I can't wait to use it as an additional leisurely space! Not to mention the thermal insulation... just the past weekend, the weather got up to 90s and the rooms remained no more than 69° and I couldn't be happier with the roof! What a great environmentally minded roofing application! I would definitely recommend DuraFoam to do any flat roof applications. :]
