Company Overview

Expertise. Reliability. These are the qualities you seek in a roofing contractor, and Doughty Enterprises delivers these values and much more. Under the leadership of owner Buzz Doughty, our company stands as a leading choice among regional roofing and construction contractors, becoming the go-to of homeowners in the community.

For over three decades, Buzz Doughty has dedicated himself to Sonoma County homeowners and businesses, offering assistance with roof repairs, new construction, remodeling, and cedar siding. Prior to launching Doughty Enterprises, Buzz worked with various roofing firms and subsequently decided to establish his own company.

He manages a proficient construction crew. Acting as his own construction foreman, he has constructed over 100 new homes throughout the years. Moreover, he has remodeled hundreds of residences. Frequently, clients call him again after several years for re-roofing or to add additional structures on their properties.

Throughout the years, Buzz has determined to operate no more than two crews at once, allowing him to personally oversee all projects. This strategy has enabled him to deliver the highest quality of work along with exceptional customer service.

His career in roofing in 1979, gaining experience at local roofing companies for a decade, gaining valuable skills. In that period, Buzz obtained a contractor's license and developed single-family homes during the off-season. In 1989, he took the step to become a high-caliber re-roofing contractor while also sometimes building homes.

With expertise as a general contractor and roofing specialist, he offers a variety of services, including: roofing services, new construction roofing, seamless gutter replacement (including removal), new construction gutters, structural siding, shingle sidewall, window replacement, and remodeling kitchens and bathrooms.

Our tiny home was leaking through the trim around our windows and door. We had Doughty Enterprises come out to diagnose and repair. They have a three hour minimum charge and a trip fee so make sure you have a $500 job on your hands first...

They said they sent their foreman and it would be fixed no problem. After some discussion of the issue and observing where the possible source was, it was determined that our builder didn't install any flashing in between where our siding meets at a butt joint about 10 feet up the wall.

The workers decided the best course of action was to caulk the seam all around to stop the water from getting in even more. This was the only real solution due to lack of materials on hand and impending rain.

I could have done the actual caulking myself, but I didn't have the experience to identify the issue without their trained eyes.

After a few days of more rain, water started coming through the same areas again, but at a slower rate. So we know the cause, but the fix wasn't permanent, unfortunately. I got up their and reapplied to the same joint where their caulk had been washed away. No big deal.

We will be getting quotes to remove the siding and install the proper waterproofing now that we have enough dry days ahead of us.

Overall, our problem didn't stem from anything Doughty Enterprises is responsible for and they did the best they could given the circumstances. I probably should have hired a handyman instead of a roofing company to save on costs, but maybe a handyman wouldn't have seen what the guys at Doughty were able to...

My roof was done by Doughty enterprises late 2020, not only did I get the best pricing from them, they also did a great job ripping off and replacing my entire house roof with minimal mess. Thank you for such a great service

I contacted them for roof repair. No response.

Update-
Owner states offices were closed that day so changing review to neutral.
It would be nice if businesses could post automatic out of office reply's to Yelp inquiries so clients could be informed.

Doughty Roofing was excellent to deal with from the start. They responded quickly, answered questions right away, got me a bid asap for a roof replacement. They fit me into the schedule in a few weeks and came out and did the job in 2 days. The crew was polite and friendly and took great care with my home and landscaping. Buzz came out to check on the job twice and was very professional. They were also the lowest bid of 5 roofing companies - on top of being the best to communicate with. I highly recommend this local family owned company! One other aside - many of their crew has been there for 20 + years which says a lot about how they are taken care of.

Everett,

I read your ""apology"" and wish that you would have turned down our job.

Hopefully, your being ""inundated with roof repairs"" in the future will be the result of doing quality work in a timely manner, at a realistic price.

You are certainly allowed to create whatever policy you like, and charge whatever the market will bear. You are also allowed to refuse to guarantee your work, but I am certain that the policies you have in place will not be conducive to a successful business.

How would you feel if I sold you a truck, and two days later you went to drive it and found that it did not meet your reasonable expectations? Like we expected the roof would not leak? How about we sold your wife a car, and when she went to drive it two days later, the seat was soaking wet because I had not adjusted the sunroof properly.

What is your current explanation of your labor rate? When you called a couple of days ago to unload on me (and my sister) you said your labor rate was $75.00 per man hour. $75 was the same rate you quoted when we first discussed the job, but in your comments below you are claiming $95.00.

1-1/2 hr x 2 men $75 = $225 $ 195.00 for what? total $420 + $100 material and you still do not guarantee your work? Please explain

Your comment ""until nearly a month......"" is from some strange idea of reality. It rained two days after your stop at our shop, and we called the next day. Back to your inundated problem, we had to make two or three calls before you got back to us and said that you did not guarantee your work.

About paying you, on December 2nd our bookkeeper prepared, and I signed a check for $520 to Doughty Enterprises. I decided not to mail it until you'd properly stopped the leak. I voided it a couple of days later after listening to you.

As far as resolving the issue I'm considering forward our Yelp exchange to https://www.cslb.ca.tomorrow afternoon and then will either repair the roof myself or hire someone else to repair it. I'll also contract with another company to repair the rain gutters on this building.

How would you want to ""resolve this issue""

PS: This might be a wonderful time to consider The Golden Rule

Buzz and Bob and John and crew were great to work with. I have a tough driveway and space situation around my house and everyone was accommodating and helpful. Roof looks fabulous!

Had a great experience contracting with Doughty Enterprises for the re-roofing of my home in Santa Rosa. I think the process was expedited by Covid-19, but it was really fast: Bob (their estimator) was out here on a Friday, they started the following Monday, and it was done by Tuesday at 3 pm. I barely had time to mourn the old roof, ha ha. They basically throw a lot of labor at your roof - like 6 or 8 guys. My old roof was super stubborn - thousands of nails holding down a brittle, polymer shake that should have never been manufactured in the first place. But they ripped it up with ""great vengeance and furious anger"" and I was happy to see it go.

New shingles were meticulously applied, as well as 10 air vents (high and low) for ventilation (required by code). They also touched up the existing sheet metal flashings and vent pipes, and painted them to match the new shingle color. The crew was really friendly, and polite. They had all been working for Doughty for a long time.

The new roof looks sharp and the bid was competitive. Just a flawless experience overall. No complaints whatsoever.

After collecting 5 bids for a new roof, I decided to go with Doughty Enterprises. Their bid was the lowest of the 5 bids but that wasn't entirely the reason I chose them.

Bob came out to my house to take the estimate and it was from that conversation that I chose them for the job. Bob was clearly experienced and very knowledgeable. My instinct told me that this was the right company to put the new roof on my house.

The contract called for the removal of my wood shake roof (the original roof and 27 years old) and replace it with an upper grade composition roof. On July 3rd 2019 the demo crew arrived promptly around 7:30 am and setup to strip the old roof off and apply the moisture barrier.

Sure it was noisy work but they were stripping the roof off. After 27 years the shake roof had degraded to almost a balsa wood quality. I was glad to see it gone. At the end of the day, the roof was stripped and ready.

Since the next day was the 4th of July they obviously had the day off, but on the 5th they were back. A truck arrived with the supplies and it was able to lift pallets of roofing clear up to the top of my two story house.

I believe they finished my roof a little early that day and we were pleased with everything. Our color choice exceeded our expectation.

The bid for the roof included a bid for new gutters and down spouts. They were installed a couple of days later by a separate company that worked with Doughty Enterprises. I was impressed at how the gutter company suggested some changes to the old gutter layout. Specifically, I have a gutter that runs the entire length of my house. The gutter guy noted that the old gutter only had one down spout and it wasn't enough to handle the water from such a long gutter. He suggested adding two down spouts to handle the water. This was an addition to my original bid but he did not charge me with it. He could of just replaced the gutters as they were. But he saw an area for improvement and he brought it to my attention. There were one or two other modifications from the original gutter layout which changed where the down spouts were located. It all turned out perfectly.

I gave Doughty Enterprises 5 stars.

Great service, best price of 4 bids I obtained, awesome crew got the moderately size roof (1600 sq ft home) done in one day. Buzz seems like one of those rare breeds, a truly honest businessman who knows his stuff backwards and forwards and is out to help without ripping anyone off.

I called around and got 7 bids, read all of the reviews that I could find. Buzz Doughty and his crew did a great job replacing our roof and gutters. They showed up early, worked hard and efficiently in record breaking temps (100 degrees!). They paid attention to details and left the yard in immaculate condition. His price was competitive and I highly recommend him.
