Dangerous, carless, noisy, dirty...
I live adjacent to a building they were roofing. After every work day I had to clean up and dispose of discarded roofing materials, 15-35 roofing nails and large amount of composite on my deck...an overflowing grocery bags worth each day. Considering the amount of daily debris on my deck, there is no way the crew didn't know about it. If I, or someone in my household, had stepped on one of the carelessly discarded nails, I wouldn't be writing a review but would be talking with my attorney. Their crew talked loudly, in a vulgar manner and played their music much too loud all day. So loud two of my neighbors had to ask them kindly to turn it down. Laughing, they did so but only for a short time before they were back at their inconsiderate behavior. They cleaned up the area of the building where they were working but not the adjacent properties nor did they seem to care how they impacted the traffic on the street with their vehicles. This crew typifies the worst of contractors. From the majority of the recent reviews, I should not be surprised at all...neither should you.

Joe and the folks at DeMello have worked with us, as in squeezing us in when they were really busy, on two occasions. The most recent time came when they came out for an estimate and then, a day later, said they could squeeze us into a the schedule of a crew that was going to be in our neighborhood. Thank you, DeMello!

Many months ago I called Demello about a new tar and gravel roof. They had installed our current roof about 25 years ago, and done some repairs over the years. I had always considered them one of the go-to roofers in Marin. This time around I was very disappointed. The fellow who inspected my roof seemed to find all kinds of issues that had not existed before, including access. He sounded rather uninterested, and I never heard back from him. Another roofer was very responsive and quickly got me a good bid. Interestingly the day after I signed the contract with the other guy, my doorbell rings and it is a different guy from DeMello wanting to look at my roof. I said thanks but he was too late. In the past DeMello did good work for me, but at best they currently seem to be a bit disorganized.

Russ and the fine folks at DeMello roofing were great to work with. They have been super-busy in this the ""Drought Ender"" year of rain...but when I told Russ that my roof was leaking in more than a dozen places, he moved us up in their schedule to get the work done as soon as they could. Russ was also kind enough to recommend a Steve Vanni construction to fix our leaking Dutch gutters, and Chris McGovern skylights to fix our leaking skylights (both of whom were a pleasure to interact with, and did excellent work). Keep in mind that DeMello is very busy, and may take some time to get to your project, but they will do an excellent job, and stand behind their work.

I called to get an inspection for a leaky roof in an HOA. For contractors to enter the property we need a certificate of insurance. This is common practice for property management, HOA's and vendors. We need to know they are insured before climbing up on a roof and getting possibly injured. The woman who answered the phone said they can't just send those out to everyone, and refused. She actually referred me to other roofers. Either they are not worried about business, or they don't have insurance. Either way, she was rude. Glad we found out up front!

I must admit, I prefer to write positive reviews. But my last experience with Demello Roofing was rough. We have dealt with Demello in the past, Jeff to be specific. He was always a positive representative for the company, and we enjoyed working with him. We utilized Demello for a roof repair, over our kitchen, in Jan. of 2015.
Fast forward to the first storm of the season in Marin, just prior to Christmas in Dec. of 2015. Our Demello ""repair"" ended up on our neighbor's roof!! When I contacted Demello, their receptionist said that they would not take any more phone numbers, or messages, until after the New Year. Her quote ""we have more projects than we can handle."" Yes, but I am your client, and your repair is lying next door. She would not budge, even when I pleaded that more rain was on the way, and my kitchen would leak.
So, I took off one star for an inferior repair. I took off 2 stars for inferior customer service. And I have Jeff's estimate for a new roof, which we need desperately, sitting in my files. Hhmmm.....I think not.

Recently I worked with Joe from DeMello Roofing to replace the roof on our property in San Rafael. Joe was great to work with. He was really responsive. A few weeks after the job was finished, when I realized that one of the downspouts hadn't been replaced properly, I called Joe. He came out right away and had it fixed - super quickly. Joe was ready and willing to make sure that we were really happy with the job they did. I was really impressed with his level of customer care.

I've been a customer for 30+ years and have referred them many times. Now, when I need their annual inspection to prep my home's roof for winter, they haven't returned any of my several phone calls. I'm getting a new roofer!

DeMello installed an asphalt shingled roof on my newly constructed home. With the first warm weather, tar began dripping down the facia boards and gutters, staining the patio below and forming black 'icicles' hanging from the roof overhang. DeMello refused to make the repairs or to cover the expense, saying there must have been something wrong with the materials and that they were just the installer. Another contractor had to be called in. The FIX cost nearly $30,000 as several sections of the roof and trim had to be replaced along with the gutters.

I don't like writing negative reviews but this time I must. The roof leaked twice few months after it has being replaced by the guys from DeMello roofing. I do have a 3 year warranty from them but make sure to read it very carefully It does not cover a lot of things. So the thing is the roof leaked after a VERY expensive repairs. They refused to fix the leak by warranty and demanded that I pay additionally for them to fix the leak. When I told them that I believe it should be covered by warranty they took me to small claim court. So if you want a very expensive roof that would leak after the first rain and the company who does not stay behind their work then choose DeMello roofing.
