We bring over three decades of expertise to the table, most of our original team members are still with us. We have proudly been a member of the Better Business Bureau since the early 90s.

At just 17, Ignacio R. arrived in this country as an immigrant, and he developed a passion for general construction, especially reroofing. He started out as a maintenance person at Stanford Hospital and San Mateo County. When the opportunity to own a business presented itself, Ignacio did not hesitate to become a roofing contractor.

    The reason I am giving Del Rio a 1 is because of the stress and aggrevation the whole process of putting a roof on my house was by this company.

    Before the owner came out to look and measure my roof. I mentioned to them the exact asphalt shingle line and level of quality within the line that I wanted. The line happens to be one of the most well known asphalt shingle roof producers. I chose the quality level just below the top and I wanted to install the sheathing with the thermal barrier attached to help keep in the heat. I received the price and was surprising happy with it, cosidering it was an upgraded product, plus the reviews of Del Rio were pretty high.

    The sheathing and the shingles arrived and were stacked on the peak of the roof and as I looked up at it, I noticed I didn't see the thermal barrier from the ground so I decided to climb the roof to make sure the product was the upgrade I wanted. It turns out that it was not. Considering that the job was to start the next day I called Ignacio Del Rio and told him the wrong material was delivered and he apologized and would send the correct sheathing the next day, which they did.

    The next day they installed most of the sheathing. I did see some things that didn't look quite right and called Ignacio again and he requested we meet to go over them. We met the next day went on the roof where we addressed some of the issues. I looked closer at the asphalt shingles that were delivered and the packaging on the bundles didn't have the entire quality grade name on it and asked if this was the product that I wanted and the one that was listed on the contract. He assured me that it absolutely was. I still had concerned that it wasn't , so took a picture of the packaging. Before getting off the roof he said the next day he would install new gutters then put on the shingles. I told him that I never agreed to new gutters, but he insisted that I should replace them while they are doing the work. I told him it wasn't in the budget nor do I want them . He continued to say he would just replace them but not bill me for 6 months. I finally got really annoyed and insisted they not even touch the gutters. I definitely disliked the hard sell.

    The next day I decided to look up the packaging online just to make sure I received the right shingles, and the product I ordered had different packaging than what was currently being installed. I called a local distributor of the line and they told me not only was the product the wrong one but it was the absolute base grade product within that line. I proceeded to call Ignacio demanding his men stop working immediately ,which he stopped. Again, he was apologetic, saying he didn't know what happened and he would order the right material, again.I asked him how this could happen again, especially after questioning the product while I was on the roof with him. He had no answer. Considering this is a very popular product in the industry , he then said he wasn't too familiar with the line. , which I have a hard time believing. Whether it was a mistake or not it was a frustrating process.

    Though the correct product was eventually installed and the quality of work appeared to be okay. ( No leaks so far) I found the process to be one of the worst, most annoying things I had to deal with during our 8 month remodel, and that says alot. Not only was the hard sell on gutters frustrating but the fact all the wrong material was ordered again and again. Plus tv cables were taken off the roof and never put back up.

    I realize, that I'm not the average homeowner. Most typically dont get up on the roof, nor would I suggest it. But we all should know that our roofer ordered, delivered and installed the right roof. Most grades of asphalt shingles look very similar to the eye. So make sure you check before installing. Its not a bad idea to check even after its been installed to make sure you got what you paid for. But it saved me from putting a crappy base grade roof.

    Business: use a calendar to take appointments instead of promising a call-back. Time will be less wasted.

    I had a great experience with Del Rio. I found the owner polite, responsive, and accurate in his description of the job.

    I checked his references. I checked more than three. The only complaint I heard was that a woman had a small dog, and the nails were not cleaned up DAILY. When I get references I prefer to find someone with a comment and hear how it was handled. All great references are a bit suspect.

    Ignacio described the job being 3 days, and the clean up on the last day to me. That's just what we got. The pricing was fair and much less than another roofer. I think I contacted four roofers. It's very rare to be happy to hand over a big check like that, but we felt the job was well done.

    Our roof was not a complete replacement. My understanding is you are able to put a new roof over the other.

    We have a small storage building. It needs a new roof. A contractor that I've worked with quoted $900 and using spare roof shingles he already had, so it wouldn't match the roof. Eventually, he came down to $650 if we did it right away. I understand filling your schedule, but I'm not a fan of such a price difference.

    Ignacio came out. Gave us a similar quote to the $650 without the run around and the shingles would match our roof. Since it was summer we were not in a hurry to have it done. No problem. We will call him when we are ready.

    I recommend his business all the time.

    You have to do your research, get a few quotes and check references.

    Del Rio Roofing is putting a new roof on one of the buildings at my facility as I type. They were recommended by my boss' realtor son- who uses them often and so far are doing a terrific job. This is a difficult situation because the workers have to work around people coming in and out of the facility all day. They are courteous and move vehicles when they need to.

    I honestly have not heard any country music blaring. There was Mexican music that I heard when one of the trucks came in but it ended when they shut the motor off in the vehicle.

    Ignacio (owner) speaks perfect English as do one or two of the other workers. ALL the same workers each day. If I want an answer to a question or wonder why something is being done, I don't ask the workers. They are doing what they are told to do. If Ignacio is at another job, I simply call the office or Ignacio on his cell phone and get the situation straight in my mind.

    A few months ago we had Del Rio Roofing redo our roof and install all new gutters. They came in, took off the old shingles, replaced the boards that were water damaged and then re-shingled, all for a very reasonable price. We were especially impressed with the gutters, they had a big machine where they feed the aluminum with gutters coming out the other side, so they can make the gutters to the exactly size needed, and the results were exactly what we wanted.

    Del Rio Roofing put a new shake roof on our newly remodeled home in Menlo Park 13 years ago and did a terrific job. We had a leak last winter due to some low hanging trees that caused the shakes to rot (oops!), and they came out to fix it for a very reasonable price. The were quick, courteous, and spoke very good English. Could it be that they only use their own crew now instead of subs? I don't know, but just felt I should leave a good review for them based on our 13 years of satisfaction with this company.
