After going through two hurricanes, my brother and sister-in-law's house needed a new roof and interior remodeling. The first roofing crew were at the house at 7am and thought to be doing good until my neighbor caught them drinking beer early that afternoon. So they were shut down. The second crew came and completed the job a few days later. So materials were bought and a crew of workers started inside the house. First the demo, then putting in new sheetroc, texturing the walls and stomping ceilings. They remodeled two bathrooms, put in ceramic tile flooring throughout the house, added crown molding and baseboards, also trim around windows and doors, and everything was to be painted. There were also two different crews that did the interior work, but this time the first was better than the second. So the sheetroc and texture was good from the 1st crew and then they were pulled off the job and sent elsewhere (I don't know why because my brother and his wife were pleased with the progress and work). Then the 2nd crew comes in and this is where it all goes downhill. These guys framed in the showers of both bathrooms with door trim and didn't cut the corners at 45 degree angles. On one wall, this door trim was installed as the baseboard, which looked ridiculous. The crown molding throughout the house was installed with corners crooked or not meeting because their carpentry skills were awful. They, apparently didn't know the difference between using painters caulk and 100% silicone, because silicone was used everywhere (instead of only in kitchen and bathrooms) and in excessive amounts. It was messy and quite a bit was on the new ceramic floor which wasn't cleaned. One could not tell the flooring was new because paint drips, along with caulk, silicone and mortar were left throughout the house on the newly installed ceramic tile floors. There were spaces on the floor where the the grout wasn't evenly distributed so because the grout lines weren't completely filled it looked terrible. And to top it all off, the grout haze wasn't wiped off clean nor were any of the floors sealed. It was a complete mess! These guys weren't professional painters. There was wall paint on the crown molding and baseboards, trim paint on the ceilings, some ceilings weren't even painted. The rooms were only painted with one coat of paint obviously, because there wasn't enough coverage. The bathrooms were painted with flat paint which made the walls look dull. A professional painter knows you should always use semi-gloss paint in the wet areas (kitchens and baths). Flat finish paint is usually the cheapest you can buy. On top of all of this extremely messy, careless and unprofessional work, they didn't complete the job. The workers walked off the job one day, saying that Robert Covey wasn't paying them. This left one room that only had a few rows of tile installed on the floor and that's it...no molding installed around the closet, entry door or window. The window wasn't even framed out...no baseboards or crown molding installed. The job was completely incomplete! This job was paid in full before the work ever started (which is always a huge mistake!). But this man, Robert Covey, had the nerve to start harassing my family for more money and threatening to put a lien on their house if they didn't pay.
