Cosmos Roofing just completed a roofing job at my house in Palo Alto and I had a very good experience with the company from the first meeting with the owner, Rich Cosmos, to the finished product. Rich was very helpful and responsive since our first meeting. I have a tar and gravel roof and was relieved to learn that he has a team that is very experienced with tar and gravel. Rich is an excellent communicator and told me all the things that I needed to do to prepare for the roofing day, and he was careful to provide information about the possible additional expenses I might incur if wood needed to be replaced, etc. The team that worked on the roof were very thoughtful and careful every step of the way. I noted that three members of the team have worked for Cosmos Roofing for more than 20 years and the others had multiple years of experience too. Rich has an excellent relationship with the team and they work smart and work hard. When the roof was done they were very careful about cleanup...more than I ever would have expected. I gave Cosmos Roofing the highest score because they exceeded my expectations in every respect.

Hats off to Rich Cosmos and his team of hard workers. No one would ever think that two full days with workers on your roof could be thought of as perfectly OK. But our experience with the Cosmos people was terrific. They did not have radios blasting. They were courteous and friendly. They worked hard and fast. A taco truck came around at lunch time both days. The workers did not leave any sign they had been here. The driveway, front yard, side yard were all immaculate when the job was done. Rich Cosmos is a gentleman with a sense of humor and a love for his company and workers. He has many years of experience, as do his workers. We were so happy we hired them for the job. We worked with Alex to get a bid, and review material options. He showed up on time and was very professional. We got competitive bids and their pricing was right in line, so we hired them to replace our roof and gutters. The job was completed in 3 days, and the crew was very neat. We'd definitely recommend Cosmos Roofing!

We decided to replace our 20 year old roof last Oct. and called a few companies (all have good reviews on yelp). Quote from Cosmos was competitive and Alex was professional and patient in answering all my questions. They offer 20 year warranty while the other companies only offer 10 year warranty. That was a big plus for me. It took them a little longer than expected to finish the work because the city inspection guy couldn't come. But it was not a big deal. The owner (I think he is Alex's father) came a few times to work with the crew and check their work. I guess that is part of their quality control. We had problem with rats in one area of the roof. After they removed old roof they found that insulation in the area (about 200 square feet) was all messed up. They removed and hauled away old insulation for us with no charge. After the job was done I didn't like the color they painted on some metal flash. They came back and repainted the next day. All in all, I'm very happy with their work. Thanks!

Cosmos has completed re-roofing our house and installed new gutters few weeks ago. We were very pleased with the whole process and with the result of the job.
With new shakes having arrived right around the holidays, and due to couple of rainy weeks, we have encountered a delay starting with the new roof, but Alex kept us abreast of changes continuously. Cosmos crew did a great job on our new roof, which really looks beautiful!
Everyone was very professional and courteous, we have not encountered any problems during the process. We would definitely recommend Cosmos roofing to our friends and neighbors.

We have a 1300 sq-ft, one story house and recently selected Cosmos roofing to completely reroof our home. I spent weeks researching local roofing companies and selected Cosmos roofing after obtaining 6 bids. Cosmos co-owner Alex O. personally inspected our home, put the bid together, and he was highly patient and reasonable in dealing with my questions and bid modification requests. The direct, time efficient, and high trust manner with which he approached the bidding process was a major differentiator for me compared to how other roofing companies approached the bidding process. Alex and I were in direct cell phone contact from the start and he maintained his responsiveness and level of project oversight throughout the build. The roofing staff were also very responsive and professional. We ended up getting heavy rain during day two of the re-roof and the team did an excellent job ensuring that our home was water tight before the rain hit. This was my first re-roof, and overall I thought the quality of the work was okay. I was initially concerned that the job had been rushed due to impending weather, but again Alex and team were highly responsive to my questions, concerns, and requests for extra attention to areas that appeared not quite perfect to me. With the job all said and done, the project was completed within budget, on time, and my wife and I love the look of our new roof. We believe we were given good advice by Alex during the roof material selection process and we are happy with the outcome overall. The primary reason I'm providing a highly favorable review here is because of the excellent level of customer service we experienced from Alex and team. We definitely made the right decision in selecting Cosmos roofing.

I liked that the company is an older established company started by the joint effort of 2 or 3 men who were friends and their families.

Tips on getting a roof:

Make sure they are going to use the flat boards with silver lining - don't know the name - on top of your roof if they strip it. You can actually put shingles over an existing roof of composite shingles - wish I had done that. You do not need to start clean state if the roof is pretty much intact. They can put strips down vertically and put the insulated silver boards on top of that. This really helps with cooling on the part of our house this was done.

Find out if they will replace the wood flashing or edging. Don't let them put a lein on your house for the materials. Pay the materials people directly. Count the materials. Watch that they do not take them to use on other projects. Get in writing - that no materials are to leave your property that were purchased or taken off of your house until the end when you give permission to have them take it (ahh... except if they strip your house let them take all the old shingles - it is more if they cut into the house - we could have used some of the parts where sofits were put in because of how awful it was done).

Use 30# (not #15) tar paper and get it in writing. Have separate gutter people do your gutters or plan on paying more for the peeps they say the don't subcontract out too. Ask for the sofit vents and cobra roof vent if they are putting more air circulation in. Make sure the insulation is not blocking them. Don't let the roofer put new insulation in, get that separately done. Don't let them cover up what has fallen inside. Don't let the people they send to take the roof off - put 8-10 people on the roof from Home Depot Line Up. Go visit their place of business and talk to the staff and take a couple of their names down first and last. See my other roofer reviews.

Now the above is in general - I did not use Comos only recieved and estimate and checked them out....
but they have got to be better than the people I used. And I liked and trusted Alex. I just went with the guy who came with the flashier presentation and the neat workshop business that I realize is just an employment agency for unemployed roofers or those who say* they are.

I sincerely believe Alex and his families company will have more experienced roofers that they actually know and can communicate with.

From start to finish, our experience with Cosmos Roofing was excellent. Alex provided us with an overview of all of our roofing options, had very competitive pricing, and we finally decided to move forward with a cedar shake roof. Not all roofing companies can put on cedar shake roofs, and Tim and Pedro truly did artisan work. We are so pleased! We feel very reassured with Cosmos's long roofing history and excellent guarantee!!

We really enjoyed working with Alex from Cosmos. His pricing is competitive, his crews work hard, and he is very responsive. The guys did a great job on our remodel, even working in the rain! We were offered many different features and were told about which one(s) would be most valuable for us. I heartily recommend Cosmos Roofing!

Great guys. Did exactly what they said they would do. Roof looks great. Their carpentry work was excellent (some rotten wood needed to be removed / replaced in conjunction with the new roof). Explained what they were going to do and why it was needed. Gave us a choice of surface coatings and detailed data about each. Crew was careful and considerate. Prep was good. Removal was messy, as always, but cleanup was great. If only I needed a roof more often, I could use them again. Instead, the best I can do is to give them a high recommendation here and on Angie's List.
