I have been wanting to get on the solar bandwagon for quite some time but it's so overwhelming! Where do you start? So many different companies and options! Finally, Coastal Solar and Home Improvement got a hold of me and explained my options to me in a way that seemed easy and painless. As soon as I was on board, Pete was very efficient at expediting the process. He made sure the loan went through quickly; and the installation of my 3 new windows, 16 solar panels, and a panel upgrade happened shortly thereafter. I am looking forward to no longer paying SDG&E an arm and a leg for power.... instead I feel great about improving my house, as well as contributing positively to the environment. Now my house is one of the best looking one's on the street, and everyone is asking about my solar.

If you are looking for a down-to-earth company with reasonable prices and honest salesmen, Coastal Solar is the one for you. I have already recommended them to friends and family and now I am recommending them to you!

In the past, I have received upteen million calls from shady solar firms that want me to give my roof to Wall Street. I am not interested in having Wall Street make money off of my roof. So, I pretty much made it a habit of hanging up on solar salesmen that want to ""save me money on my electrical bill"".

Also, we were all warned of the winter El Niño that really never materialized. Therefore, I was taking bids for a new roof. Adam came knocking on the door looking to take the bid. I noticed Adam had the word ""solar"" written on his uniform and I brought up the subject. To make a long story short, I signed a contract for both a new roof and a new solar system that I own outright and Wall Street is not making money on my roof.

The solar system called for an electrical panel upgrade. The house is 90 years old and the electrical panel was pretty sad. I was constantly resetting breakers and I had to be careful and watch what I plugged in and where. The electrical contractors for this part of the project were the best. I am so happy that panel was upgraded, and that part of the project only took one day. No more flipping breakers, and I have room in the panel to put more plugs into an old house that has one plug per room.

As with any project this size, your going to run into problems. The roofing project was a little rough that roofing contractor deserves a bad review. However, when I brought my roofing concerns up to the project manager Pete, he resolved the issues in a professional manner. I know the roofing contractor was busy as everybody needed a new roof in the race for El Niño. But these problems got downright ridiculous. I had to call Pete to resolve these annoying issues. I don't know what Pete did, but the roofing contractor jumped into gear and the roof was completed on time.

The solar system comes with a data unit that monitors the system so you can log onto a webpage and look at it. Getting that set up is not for the faint of heart. Because I am an IT nerd, I was obsessed in getting the monitoring system up and running. It took a lot of calls and emails to Pete, but we eventually got it. Pete told me this is usually the hardest part of the project.

Pete went out of his was to make sure the project was completed on time and on budget. He went out of his way to get the monitoring system system up and running. Because of his professionalism I am looking to expand the system by adding more panels later this year. The expansion shouldn't be big deal, and I bet we can get that wrapped up in a day.

If your looking for solar, and you don't want to rent the panels, and you have the means to buy them outright, go with these guys. You will be very pleased. The system they sell is a quality system not some cheap system that will get you by for five or ten years. Their system has a 25 year warranty. Because of the quality of the panels and the quality of the installation I expect these panels to last longer than 25 years. The project was completed on time and on budget and installment of this solar system exceeded my expectations.

From start to finish Coastal knocked our socks off! We needed a new roof and a lot of roof support repair and the roofing team from Coastal were stellar!! The roof was done and I swear it is almost like they were never here! The roof was done without a single nail or scrap of roofing left behind! Super professional and always friendly!!

After the roof was completed, the solar panel team came out and put on our 18 panel system. Again I have nothing but praise for the solar team! The guys were amazing! The panels came with a new 200 amp service as well. The electrical team were great! They answered my 10,000 questions with a smile.

It says they install windows, but.... I contacted Pete for a quote on putting in a new window. He set an appointment and Adam showed up? He took the dimensions of the window and told me that they could do it but there was a ""job minimum"" for cost. That made sense and I accepted that. He told me that he would get back to me in a day or so. It has been over a week and I have heard nothing.

Update 5-12-15

Got a call from Adam. He said he tried to leave a message the day after the visit, but it said that my voice mail was full. Probably happened, it has before. Anyway, he informed me that the job was indeed too small and they, unfortunately, couldn't take it. That is okay, I understand, and thank him for the call back.

Although we budgeted for air conditioning, the windows that Coastal recommended and installed are very energy efficient ... translating into huge savings!
