In 1980, Les Watrous received his California General Contractors License 388630, founding The Watrous Group. During the early 80s, with few home inspectors available, The Watrous Group was often called for home inspections. Les gained extensive knowledge of the home inspection field. During the early 90s, the evolving home inspection industry saw many insurance claims linked to leaking roofs. Inspectors started to recommend roof inspections, often disclaiming roofs. Seeing an opportunity, Les founded Cert-A-Roof® in 1993 to inspect and certify roofs free of leaks. He also trademarked the phrase LeakFREE® Roof Certification. As the real estate, banking, and insurance sectors recognized the importance of roof inspections and certifications, demand surged. The Watrous Group operates as Cert-A-Roof. For 35 years, we have kept the same contractor's license number and phone number. Now providing FAA Registered Drone Roof Inspections.

Les hails from Connecticut, with a lineage of home builders who constructed from the ground up. He learned the importance of doing things right and continues to uphold that belief.

He followed his parents to California in 1978, driven by his father's health needs for a milder climate.

His comprehensive knowledge of home structure, including foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and quality workmanship, made him a highly sought-after contractor.

In 1993, he launched Cert-A-Roof to give home and commercial buyers insight into the roofs they were considering.

In the aftermath of the 1994 earthquake, he took on the task of repairing damaged homes. He emerged as a consumer advocate, negotiating with insurance companies for the best settlements. He wrote and published a book named Top Dollar Property Claims. It was acknowledged by the Los Angeles Times as one of the Top Ten Books of the Year in real estate.
