Les Watrous obtained California General Contractors License 388630 in 1980, operating as The Watrous Group.

In the early 1980s, as home inspectors were scarce, The Watrous Group was often contacted for home inspections, which helped Les become well-versed in the home inspection sector.

In the early 90s, as the home inspection field evolved, numerous insurance claims against inspectors were linked to leaking roofs, leading them to suggest roof inspections.

Seeing an opportunity, Les founded Cert-A-Roof® in 1993 to inspect and certify roofs as free of leaks, coining the term LeakFREE® Roof Certification.

As awareness grew in the real estate, banking, and insurance fields regarding the significance of roof inspections and certifications, demand began to rise.

The Watrous Group operates as Cert-A-Roof, maintaining the same contractor's license number and phone number for 35 years.

We now offer FAA Registered Drone Roof Inspections.

Les hails from Connecticut, with several generations of home builders who constructed from the ground up. He was educated in the value of proper workmanship and still strongly adheres to that principle.

In 1978, he followed his parents to California because his father needed a warmer climate for health reasons.

His comprehensive knowledge of house structures, including foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and quality workmanship, made him a highly sought-after contractor.

He established Cert-A-Roof in 1993 to help buyers gain a better understanding of the roofs they were about to buy.

After the 1994 earthquake, he started rebuilding homes that were affected. He became a consumer advocate, assisting clients in negotiating with insurance companies for optimal settlements. He authored and published a book titled Top Dollar Property Claims. It was acknowledged by the Los Angeles Times as one of the Top Ten Books of the Year for real estate.
