Les Watrous obtained California General Contractors License 388630 in 1980, operating as The Watrous Group.

In the early 80s, due to a lack of home inspectors, The Watrous Group became a go-to for home inspections, giving Les deep insights into the industry.

With the evolution of the home inspection industry in the early 90s, many insurance claims against inspectors were related to leaking roofs, causing them to advise obtaining roof inspections.

Seeing an opportunity, Les founded Cert-A-Roof® in 1993 to inspect and certify roofs as free of leaks, coining the term LeakFREE® Roof Certification.

As awareness grew in the real estate, banking, and insurance fields regarding the significance of roof inspections and certifications, demand began to rise.

The Watrous Group operates as Cert-A-Roof, maintaining the same contractor's license number and phone number for 35 years.

Les hails from Connecticut, with several generations of home builders who constructed from the ground up. He learned the importance of doing things right and continues to uphold that belief.

In 1978, he relocated to California with his mother and father, who sought a warmer climate for his father's health.

His broad expertise in house structures, from foundations to roofing and quality workmanship, positioned him as a highly desirable contractor.

He established Cert-A-Roof in 1993 to help buyers gain a better understanding of the roofs they were about to buy.

In the aftermath of the 1994 earthquake, he took on the task of repairing damaged homes. He emerged as a consumer advocate, helping clients navigate insurance claims for the best possible settlements. He wrote and published a book named Top Dollar Property Claims. The Los Angeles Times listed it among the Top Ten Books of the Year in real estate.
