Les Watrous obtained California General Contractors License 388630 in 1980, operating as The Watrous Group.

During the early 80s, with few home inspectors available, The Watrous Group was frequently called for home inspections, allowing Les to gain extensive knowledge of the home inspection field.

As the home inspection industry progressed in the early 90s, many insurance claims against inspectors stemmed from leaking roofs, prompting inspectors to recommend roof inspections.

Les recognized this as a chance and established Cert-A-Roof® in 1993 to inspect and certify roofs as leak-free, trademarking the term LeakFREE® Roof Certification.

As the real estate, banking, and insurance sectors recognized the importance of roof inspections and certifications, demand surged.

Operating as Cert-A-Roof, The Watrous Group has retained the same contractor's license number and phone number for 35 years.

Les, a Connecticut native, has a family history of home builders who constructed homes from the foundation up. He was educated in the value of proper workmanship and still strongly adheres to that principle.

In 1978, he moved to California with his parents due to his father's health issues requiring a warmer climate.

His extensive understanding of home structures—foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and quality craftsmanship—made him a preferred contractor.

In 1993, he launched Cert-A-Roof to offer buyers a clearer insight into the roofs they intended to purchase.

In the aftermath of the 1994 earthquake, he took on the task of repairing damaged homes. He became a consumer advocate, assisting clients in negotiating with insurance companies for optimal settlements. He penned and released a book called Top Dollar Property Claims. The Los Angeles Times recognized it as one of the Top Ten Books of the Year for real estate.
