I had a leak in my roof and they came out quickly to put in a temporary fix, which was great. Afterwards, I got a quote to put in a permanent fix. One of the line items was to replace some dry rot, but the cost seemed higher than expected, so I called to see if I can get an explanation of the work. I spoke to Tony Diaz, and oh my, he was immediately defensive. He started off by telling me that his estimates are non-negotiable (I didn't try negotiating, by the way), that they don't work for free, that they have to pay their men and keep their lights on, that they don't like me trying to rip them off, that I can take my business elsewhere. I then calmly explained to him that I am not trying to negotiate, but simply to understand the work involved, since the guy who came out to put in the temporary fix only pointed out this one piece of wood that needed to be replaced. He then said, ""Wouldn't you think the plywood underneath needed to be replaced too??!"" How was I suppose to know??! That's why I was calling for an explanation!! Others on Yelp seem to love them, and perhaps I might have too IF I didn't question their quote. Tony terminated the call by saying he's done and don't want to do business with me. I was polite the entire time, merely searching for an explanation. I'm glad I didn't go with them, or else if anything were to come up during the work, they would have been impossible to deal with. His wife, Elena, is very nice, but that Tony needs to take a chill pill and a lesson in manners. Stay away from this child.

Called on Monday to request improved flashing around several appliances and fix a leak in the laundry room and left a message. Called on Tuesday and left a message. No response by Wednesday. I understand that fall is a busy season for roofers, but calling back (even to say that you are unavailable) is a basic courtesy that should be required for any business.

Tony Diaz and Century Roof and Solar is an amazing roofing company. Let me save you a lot of time and research, Century Roof and Solar is the only roofing company you should have do your re-roofing!!! I got 3 estimates, all had competitive quotes, but the quality and professionalism you get from Tony and his crew is second to none. They finished our re-roofing, insulation and new steel gutters in 5 business days. They are very efficient, very clean and organized to a tee. You're not going to find anyone who knows roofing and solar better than Tony Diaz!!! Tony was always available to answer any my questions or concerns. The concerns were due to my lack of knowledge on the process, but Tony re-assured me every time that he had everything under control. And he did!!! We live in Atherton and recently needed our roof replaced. We met with several roofers and selected Tony Diaz at Century as he was quick to get back to us with an estimate, offered a lot of alternatives and had great reviews on yelp. We were never disappointed and we are not easily pleased.

Tony not only gave us a proposal but also asked GAF is they would like to use our home in their brochure for a new roof product, which would mean that we would get the materials FREE. While GAF agreed to with Tony's influence, we opted for another roof we liked better. However, Tony jumped through hoops to get this for us and it was much appreciated.

We have done a lot of construction, both building our home and doing additions and have to say this was the BEST experience ever. His guys showed up on time, every day and stayed until completed. The heat was horrible on the days they replaced the roof and the average workers would have knocked off early but not Tony's guys - they stayed late to get the job done and each day, swept and used the blower to keep the place clean. Any time we had questions, Tony was quick to return our calls both before and during the project.

Tony also gave us a price for Solar and let us know about when we would hit break even in savings. He whipped it out in a day. He would be the only one we would trust with this project.

Who knew that a new roof could make such a difference in the appearance of your home. the craftsmanship is excellent. We LOVE the way the roof looks and cannot say enough good things about using Tony. From the pricing, to the service, we could not be more pleased. We appreciated his responsiveness as he would call back almost immediately to answer questions not only during the proposal process but while they were on our job. His work ethic is incredible. He gave us honest proposals and explained everything that was needed (but more important, what was not needed) He is truly a gem!

Our only regret is that we won't need another roof for a long time so won't get to work with Tony again. If you are looking for a roof, and need a recommendation feel free to ask Tony for our number. Tony goes the extra mile for his clients. He is AWESOME!

So I live in San Francisco, which is outside the area in which Century works, but Tony Diaz was willing to talk with me over the phone about my issue and provided some very helpful information to help me figure out next steps. How do you know if you've found a good contractor? You'll most likely know if they were referred to you by word-of-mouth. Consider this your personal referral for a roofer.

Ask yourself, ""Do I want to work with an established, reputable company that provides warranties on materials and installation and is concerned about your personal satisfaction, or, do I want to work with some guy whose entire office is out of the back of his beat up pickup truck and might just be out of business in the next year?""

It's worthy to note that the roof I had installed was on my mother's home in Santa Clara. By nature, as I was the one that called out roofers for estimates and spoke with each of them, my mother was relying heavily on me to ensure the roofer would perform as expected. Pablo, the rep. that visited with my mother and I, was excellent in ensuring that all my questions were addressed, that we understood everything that would happen and when, and that we were constantly updated on the progress. It was evident that ""quality"" was paramount to Pablo and the rest of Century. This relieved a ton of stress on my part since I was assured that my mother's roof would be installed correctly and last many years (nearly the lifetime of the house). The estimate for the roof replacement was right in the middle of the 3 estimates we received. Note that ""cheaper"" isn't always better...and expensive doesn't guarantee a better installation either. So why did we choose Century? For the quality of installation and craftsmanship that we were to receive, as well as the following points that were important to us:

- Unlike other independent roofers, Century has a whole office of support staff that schedule roofing construction and ensure timelines are met. Phone calls are promptly returned and communication is excellent.
- Unlike other independent roofers, Century always has a foreman on each work site to ensure construction is done properly and to address all homeowner questions.
- Unlike other independent roofers, Century does not contract out to a 3rd party for the removal (demolition) of the old roof. Century has the people on payroll, ensuring that the ripoff is done properly and to standards so that the install of the new roof goes smoothly.
- Unlike other independent roofers, Century offers current, state-of-the-art materials as upgrades to what is considered standard or acceptable in the industry. For example, most roofs are installed with a layer of felt between the wood and the shingle. The felt over time can fail and deteriorate. Century offers a product called ""Tiger Paw"" which is a synthetic layer of material that is not only water and rip resistant (I held a piece in my hands and tried my best to tear it...I couldn't) but it is pest (think termite and carpenter bee) resistant. Other roofers I spoke with had either never heard of synthetic materials or had not used them.
- Unlike other independent roofers, Century is among a limited number of roofers that are certified by the manufacture to install the roofing materials. This allows Century to offer a ""Peace of Mind"" warranty...should Century ever go out of business (I really doubt it) the factory will find you another certified roofer to make repairs at no cost to you in the event that your roof comes apart in a storm or fails for some other reason. In addition, if you select the PoM warranty there is an inspection that needs to be done after the roof installation is completed (I believe by the manufacturer) to ensure there are no faults in the installation.

And for us the big thing that we appreciated was the level of customer service received from Pablo and the rest of Century. For example,
- Pablo made a separate trip to drop off shingle samples.
- Pablo was honest in telling us that due to our particular roof design we would not see a significant difference in the thicker, more expensive shingles vs. the thinner, less costlier shingles.
- During the ripoff off the old roof and replacement of dry rot my mother was concerned about the aesthetics of the newly replaced rafter tails and eaves. Pablo dropped everything and came by her house early the next morning and discussed it with her, and ultimately had some materials replaced at no extra cost to ensure my mother's satisfaction and to address her concerns.
- Pablo and the foreman took me on the roof to personally review and inspect the repairs that were being made.
- Century took care of all city building permit issues. Some other independent roofers may not provide this service or may choose to work without a city permit (city permits come with a city inspection of completed work).
- Both the ripoff team and the installation team were clean and tidy, and the work site was left free of debris and garbage when the job was done.

----- You will not find a better roofing company in the bay area. You can rest assured at night during the big storm if you go with Century. -----

7-2/15 - Called to see if they installed solar attic fans and very nice lady answered phone but said she would have to check. The answer I got when she got back ob the phone was ""He said, no we don't""...end of call. We did want to ask about a new solar roof and other solar products but they didn't sound like they had time....

After a great deal of research, my wife and I chose Century Roof and Solar to re-roof and gutter our home based on our interaction with Tony Diaz, owner and roofing specialist and by inspection of his work on previous completed roofs. He spent hours with us, both in person and on the phone, to carefully go over all aspects of our roofing project.

Tony was always available to discuss our questions and concerns and carefully explained complex roofing terms and procedures in a way that lay people like us could understand. He gave us his cell number so we could have better access to him for quick questions and consultations. The project was completed well and on time. Also, prior to his work, our attic had poor ventilation which left our upstairs extremely hot and we had to use air conditioning during many summer nights. Tony proposed a new ventilation system and now, even with our 90 degree weather, we have yet to turn on the air conditioner.

My wife and I were not the easiest customers and wanted to express how much we both appreciate his patience and understanding during the entire process. Honestly, my wife had some unrealistic expectations regarding costs that could not have been predicted--finding some dry rot that required extra work, even though Tony had previously clearly indicated the possibility. He addressed the issue quickly and at an appropriate cost. At the end of the job, my wife decided she wanted Tony to move a completed downspout to the other side of the house. This entailed added cost to Tony in terms of materials and labor and he completed the job within a few days and never billed us for the work.

I rarely write Yelp reviews but wanted to let others know of our positive experience with Century Roofing; Tony worked with some very difficult customers and want to thank him his service and our beautiful new roof.

We used Century Roof & Solar for our gutters. Tony is definitely personable and knowledgeable. My husband is a general contractor and wouldn't think of ever using anyone else!! We didn't think they were going to be able to get them on before our roof was put on, but lucky for us they made the time. We weren't even expecting them and to my surprise they showed up just in time. We went with the recommendation Tony gave us as far as what he thought would look best. Can I just say never have I loved my gutters before, boy I love them now, they are beautiful. I see lots of reviews for they're roofs, but not gutters, so I thought I would add my 2 cents in case someone is looking for gutters. The crew was very professional and work very effectively. Thank you Tony for your diligence in regards to our job, we really appreciate it. Couldn't ask for more!!!!
