We have an Eichler and needed tar and gravel on the flat roof but were required to get insulation on it. They put hard slab insulation over most of the roof, but not over the eaves, not all the way to the edge, (which I guess helps with drainage) but the tar paper curved downward over the edge of the insulation to the original surface, a good 3"". There wasn't enough gravel, and not enough tar, so a lot of the gravel that was on this slanted section slid down to the low spot and exposed the tar paper. Didn't notice it until several years later, and the tar paper was dissolving in the sun all along this edge. Just a very shoddy job.

I have used Casto Roofing for a number of years and I have been very satisfied with the quality and value of their work.

Initially, we used Casto to repair the tar & gravel roof of our Eichler home that we had ""inherited"" from another roofer when we bought the house. Subsequently, we had Casto put a new cap sheet roof on our flat top home in 2011.

I have been very impressed with Casto Roofing - especially with the seasoned roofers that Lindsey employs. They were amazingly efficient at diagnosing causes of leaks off the old roof and making repairs quickly. When they put the new roof on, the attention to detail was great and the roof has held up well for over 4 years now.

Unpretentious and straight forward, Lindsey is like a throw back to another era when the repair guy was your neighbor and you could discuss the job or touch base on how the kids are doing. If you like this type of relationship, he is a perfect fit.

Don't waste your time. Called them to come to my house for an estimate for hot mopping. I took time off work to meet with the owner Lindsey. He took his measurements and said he would send me the estimate on Monday.

I gave them all day Monday, but when it didn't arrive, I placed a call on Tuesday and talked to his wife. I explained that I didn't receive the estimate as promised. Her response was ""He was in the back yard moving material with the forklift"". Ok..... I guess that means he's busy..... I asked her if he or she could send the estimate as soon as possible so I could head off the coming rains. She said she would give him the message. Well, it never came. I guess it was too small of a job for him. He didn't have the professional courtesy to say so and left me hanging. I had to cover the area for the coming rains and try to find a true professional.

My roof was leaking from the chimney and a vent pipe. On-site quote was competitive. Repairs done just before winter rains have held up. Down side was that I was not given a guarantee. Would consider them for larger jobs in future assuming written guarantee given for larger jobs.

Casto put a new roof on our house in July 2011 and did a fantastic job. Lindsay Casto was great to do business with - very honest and straight-forward. And his team was extremely hardworking and efficient. They came on time, worked hard all day and got the job done in an incredibly fast time. They even came back to finish part of the roof that was under construction at the time at no extra charge. Would highly recommend to anyone.

I am extremely pleased with the installation of my Landmark Plus TL Fiberglass Composition Roof by Casto Roofing. The total reroofing experience exceeded my expectations. The roof removable crew did an excellent job of cleaning up every scrap of material. The installation crew likewise did an excellent job of not only the installation of the new roof and cutter system, but leaving the job site each day in clean and orderly condition.
Lindsay Casto was easy to deal with, started the job on time and finished exactly when he said they would. I am a very satisfied customer of Casto Roofing.

I decided to use this company because their estimate was competitive and Lindsay Casto was helpful and personable - I got a lot of very good advice from him and the roof is great. They were on time, flexible with the weather conditions and conscientious in the work they did. There is an extend-family feel to this business - a number of the roofers were related.

Additional comments: Casto sub-contracted out the roof demo and a small tar job on my roofs. I didn't have any problems with those guys, but they weren't as friendly or communicative as the Casto guys.

Casto does exactly what they are contracted to do, and they make sure you get what is best for your needs.

A definite thumbs-up recommendation.

Highly recommend them. Lindsay Casto has been working for my family doing residential and commercial new and reroof projects for years. They are very honest, reliable, and always accommodating to expedite. I have had called Casto to repair my leaky roof, even during rain, and they come out the next day to help. They provided the best price for our reroof of a residential property in Los Altos by far (2-3x lower than the competition). I will be doing another reroof project this year, and will only use Casto. Call them.

Casto Roofing removed the flashing (weatherproofing) on our roof and never put the flashing back. When it rained the water was leaking inside the house. We had another roofing company fixing the problem since Casto has the worst customer service in the bay area.

I spoke to other people who have used Casto Roofing and they have all said that the job Casto does is shoddy and it's basically a hit and run roofing job. Oh, they will have the lowest estimate, but there's a price to pay for their poor workmanship. Avoid Casto roofing if you want to stay dry when it rains. You get what you pay for.

Bottom line: Always get three quotes, check references and do homework before hiring people to do work on your house. I'll never call Casto Roofing again and I tell everyone I know to avoid them at all cost.
