Wonderful resource for local homeowners who want to see a variety of roofing materials in person vs relying on online catalogs.

California Shingle and Shake Company is hands down a great roofing supplier on the Peninsula for professionals and home owners alike. I recently reroofed a friend's house, and we wanted to go with a quality composite shingle brand and model that large chain home-improvement stores do not stock and cannot order, so we stopped by CSS. Unlike the local chains, they have a large selection of shingles from multiple brands and warranties, and they stock a huge amount of common colors; if you desire another color, they can order it easily enough. I also saw that they had a selection of wood shingles. Their prices are competitive as well.

Aside from shingles, they have an excellent selection of quality flashing that you won't find in chain stores. For example, they carry multiple width aluminum valley flashing in a couple different colors which is superior, in my opinion, to the limited galvanized selection available in chain stores. They also have all kinds of eve/rake drip-edge flashing in multiple colors, roof jacks/vents, roof-to-wall angles, step flashing, eyebrow vents, vent pipe grommets, fasteners, felt paper, gutters, and just about anything else you need.

As far as working with the staff goes, they were great. The sales representatives were knowledgeable, friendly, and interested in our project. Before going in, I assumed that we would not be attended to in such detail and respect because we are not a roofing contractor and were only spending a fraction of the money contractors spend on a weekly basis, but my assumption was pleasantly wrong. They were extremely attentive, so I can only imagine how they treat their frequent customers. While we were waiting at the counter for another customer to finish purchasing some flashing, the CSS salesman took the time to instruct the customer in how to install the flashing, and his instructions were correct for professional standards which was a change from what I usually hear from salespeople at chain stores.

Included in our order, CSS delivered and packed the roof at no charge, and the laborers were polite and respectful of the property when positioning their truck. During construction, we required some additional materials, and CSS worked with us to make changes to the order with no hassle, and the materials we did not use were easily returned for a refund.

If you are looking for anything roof related, I highly recommend doing business with CSS. It was a smooth experience, and I'll be supporting this local business whenever I can.
