We've never worked with such an outstanding company who had such expertise and professionalism. They were always on time. Always kept the premise neat and clean. We highly recommend calling either Roger or Chuck for your roofing needs

Caldwell installed a new roof a couple of years ago. Great job, on time and withing our budget. We were going to go all slate and they convinced us that slate, aside from costing a fortune would not improve the look of the house.
Just last week they replaced old skylights. Same quality workmanship as the roof resulting in a dramatic improvement in the look of the room. Roger suggested using the old frames which save a great deal of money. Their workmen were competent, courteous and cleaned up perfectly.
Highly recommended!

Caldwell-Roland put a roof on our apartment building. For the units on the top floor, you could see where the nails were hammered in on the roof on their ceilings. Used the wrong sized nails! We had leaks in two units and two common areas during the warranty period. When Steve Roland was there, the problems were resolved, calls were returned and explanations of what was happening. After he left, Chuck didn't return calls left with the woman who answered the phone. So it's two stars for Steve and no stars for Chuck.

As general contractors, Caldwell Roland has been our ""go-to"" roofer for several years. We have found their service to be consistently good, and if any problems do arise, they have been there to take care of them. They can integrate solar into their roofs. They can do high end roofs such as tile and slate, as well as commercial roofs. All in all, an excellent local roofing company worth checking out.

I know the original owners of the company, who sold it a few years ago. The company used to be fantastic and stand by their work, but since the new owners took over (Chuck and Roger), they have made unethical choices. They fired a lot of loyal employees so they could hire new (and often inexperienced) workers for really cheap. They fired their accountant when she refused to do a number of questionably legal things (if not outright illegal). It's unfortunate what they've done to the company. The past owners ran an excellent business to be proud of. They treated their employees very well, they made sure that all employees were legally allowed to work in the state of California, and Steve Roland (the past owner, who took over the business when his father died) was honest and fair in his pricing and stood by the company's work.

Most of the reviews that are bad are from dealing with the new owners. I would not recommend Caldwell-Roland Roofing to anyone now, and it's incredibly unfortunate. I feel horrible that the new owners have ruined what was a good business and a source of pride for Steve Roland and his family.

Caldwell-Roland installed the roof on our North Berkeley home in 1998. There are complex conditions due to the design of the house. The then-owner, Steve Roland worked with me to resolve all design, fabrication and installation issues with me. He took great care and pride in the job. I recently discovered bubbles on the low-pitched portion of the roof of 13 years. One of the current owners-Chuck Fisher, worked with me with the same attention to detail and customer satisfaction as Steve Roland. It was challenging to trace to source of water infiltration. It is reassuring to see a company stand by its previous work and maintain customer relationships for the expected life of products and installation.

I wish I could give less than 1 star. This is a crooked, unethical company. They installed a $28,000 roof on our renovated home. When they were done, there were huge blotches of discoloration. They told me it would wash away after the first rain. It did not. I called, and they came out and gave me a bunch of excuses. They were so unresponsive I just gave up. Now, 1 year later we had to move and sell the house. The buyers had it inspected, and the only thing that was faulty was our brand new, Caldwell-Roland $28,000 roof. It is going to cost us thousands more to repair their half-assed, crappy work. The main guy, Chuck, refuses to return calls. He thinks he's the Wizard of Oz - has a nice young woman field calls and make excuses for him. He is around only to sell you a bunch of expensive promises. We have renovated 5 homes and have never run into such an incompetent, sleazy company. Run, do not walk away from these guys.

I am a contractor and have used Caldwell Roland roofing on my own home and at homes of a number of remodeling clients over the years and have been very good and if an issue comes up they always stand behind their work. Thanks Philip Anderson HDR Remodeling, Berkeley Ca

This is my first yelp review ever. (Long time reader). I signed up so I could warn people about these roofers. I had my roof done by them 3 years ago to fix some leaks. Best price by a little bit, no problems with installers. HOWEVER, they did not fix the leaks. And now my problems begin. They came out once and added some caulking. It continues to leak as bad as before. I CANNOT GET A CALL BACK. I have called them about 6 times over the past 6 mos. I try for a while then give up. Not sure what to do, as my roof is supposedly under warrentee. Think I'll try the BBB. Avoid this business, pay a little more for a reliable firm. I learned the hard way.

Caldwell-Roland Roofing sent out a great sales guy who told me that my roof would be no problem and would be done professionally and on my schedule. I got a couple of other quotes as well which were in the same price range (~$13,000). Boy, now I wish I had gone with one of those. My nightmare with Caldwell-Roland began when two guys who didn't speak much English showed up at my door unannounced one morning. While I was at work, they proceeded to completely destroy my roof. When I returned home, I found numerous nails (too long for the work at hand even if they were pounded into the crossbeams as they should have been) sticking out of my eaves and the curved porchline in front of my door completely destroyed, nails through the eaves and wood split to smithereens. After spending an additional $15,000 to repair the damage to the curved porchline flourish, (I couldn't restore it to its original condition b/c steaming wood into that curved shape is a lost art, I could not find a craftsmen now that could do it), Caldwell-Roland would not accept responsibility and it was like pulling teeth to even get them to relay the tiles to match the rest of the roof once the work was complete. Then the other leaks began. First was a leak near the chimney. After another protracted battle with the roofing company owners, they finally sent someone out to repair that. Now the leak into my living room. This will require us to cut a hole into the wall to find and address the damage. I will have spent in excess of $30,000 for this roof once all the damage of using these incompetent and unsupervised roofers has been repaired. If you have any complications in your roofline at all, you have been warned, do NOT USE THESE INCOMPETENT ROOFERS. If there is anything they are unclear about how to do, they will hack away and attempt to make it work costing you untold damage and expensive protracted repair, all the while fighting you to avoid having to do the least amount of work to make good on their so-called ""guarantee"". I will hire another company to fix this last leak. It's just not worth it to try to get these guys to do their jobs.
