The NeoVolta NV24 unit installed by Jay Burden and his team performed FLAWLESSLY during a recent SDG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) outage. Basically, the system fully charged from solar during the day and powered the house overnight. What a relief! So much easier than using a generator & coolers and buying propane and ice - especially during a pandemic!

We have most of the house connected - except high-demand items like the oven, electric water heater, and A/C. We were conservative with our usage during our 2-day outage, yet we continued to power our kitchen frig and garage freezer and used our microwave, coffeemaker, and other small appliances and electronics as usual.

Our original priority was for safety and convenience during power outages. And the system exceeded our expectations. As a bonus, when we need to move from our current SDG&E tiered rate to a Time of Use (TOU) plan, we will enjoy the benefits of being able to time-shift our power and avoid paying premium rates between 4 and 9 p.m.

In February I had a problem with my solar system and SolarEdge which BURTEK Energy did not install. I called Jay at BURTEK Energy for his help. Even though he did not install my solar system , only my backup battery, he came out to assist me. He contacted SolarEdge and followed through with SolarEdge until the problem was solved. Because of the professionalism of Jay, quality of the equipment and BURTEK's customer service BURTEK Energy is tops on my list.

I worked with Jay Burden and Christian on a replacement of my inverters which were malfunctioning. Although Burtek was not my original installer (Smart Energy my original installer went out of business) they were the first (and only) company of several authorized Sunpower dealers to respond to my inquiry. Christian came out within a couple of days of my call in spite of the current Coronavirus situation. After assessing the problem Jay was in constant contact with Sunpower expediting my repair order, keeping me up to date throughout the whole process and doing the actual installation of the replacement inverters. What could have taken months to resolve took less that 2 weeks. They did a stellar job and were true professionals. Burtek will be my solar company moving forward and I will request Jay to do any work needed on my system or upgrades.

After soliciting bids from a couple different solar companies I decided to use Burtek as my Solar installation company.. and I couldn't be more happy. The entire staff at Burtek were knowledgeable and professional. With no pressure, they sat down with me and explained exactly how solar works and what my options were. Tom H (our sales rep) bent over backwards to make sure that everything went smoothly from financing to installation to monitoring the system.

BurTek review

In my second year of service so this is really an update.
A little background. I initially had 3 companies visit and prepare estimates for solar. All of them were in a hurry to sign me up and never really bothered to look at my steep roof very closely. They all expressed concern about the roof and the fact that the tiles were aluminum with an asphalt colored coating. (Neither actually inspected my roof.) Long story short, they basically told me sign now and they'd figure it out later. Obviously that was not good enough for me and left me wondering. Basically I concluded that I would even bother to look at solar anymore.
A short time later I was at the Oceanside Farmer's Market and Burtek had a booth which I was not interested in. I reluctantly engaged the rep, Ilyan O'Neill, and it quickly became apparent he was a different kind of salesman and seemed truly interested in making a deal only it was in my best interest. I agreed to a home evaluation.
BurTek sent out their staff to go onto my roof and remove a few tiles for further evaluation. Nobody lese even suggested doing that. Being very conservative, they came out again with their roofing supervisor to make sure there were no issues. Wow, 2 visits!
After looking at my roof and 12 months of my electric bill, I was amazed that I could save money since my home does not even have air conditioning.
I opted for the lease agreement (vs an outright purchase) as the best option for me.
I liked the schedule they proposed and the degree of detail provided to me so I signed the lease and the rest is history. Surprisingly, my lease payment was less than my average electric bill. Best of all, I'll be avoiding the huge future SDG&E rate increases. The job proceeded as scheduled and was completed to my complete satisfaction. Even their cleanup was perfect. After installation, they also took the time to explain what to look for to make sure everything was always working perfectly. (not much is required) I asked a few friends that had others install their solar and none of them had a clue of what to look after the installation.
The finally touch was that at the end of both years, their estimates of my power usage vs the number of panels required was within a few dollars.
Another nice thing about BurTek is that they are also a roofing and energy company and know what to look for on your roof.
Needless to say, I highly recommend Burtek for your solar needs.
PS..... I'm an environmental engineer and getting off the grid is good thing to do, especially when it didn't cost me anything.
