Don't be mislead by his introduction with a fancy business postcard when he comes for the estimates. I was fooled. I had a leaky roof. he claimed to have fixed it after on my roof for 20 minutes. Paid for the service to Steve(the owner i think). I was hesitant to pay him upfront but he reassured that he would come back if the problem not fixed. I had checked his license and background on BBB. But boy was I fooled. I called many a times because the problem was never fixed. He did not return my calls nor ever returned. Its a hard lesson learned. I advise you all to be careful out there and I attest that this outfit is not recommended at all costs. I give it a zero star if had a choice.

Steve Laster, owner of Better Roofing and Repair responded to my request for a roof leak problem at my Castro Valley home within 24 hours in December, 2010. He did a thorough inspection and gave me a couple options of repairing the most likely cause of the leak plus a secondary repair that could cause problems in the near future (I chose both options). The work needed to be done quickly as we were in the middle of multiple rain storms. Steve started work within a couple days, as the weather allowed, and completed the work quickly. Another leak stopped that seemed unrelated to the current one. Steve was willing to troubleshoot and discuss various roof problem I presented. I'm very happy with his work and thoroughness. He was very helpful in explaining roof construction details and options. I will use Better Roofing again.

Stay away this business unless you want to give money away. Steve Laster is the owner. He is slick with his talk to get your business and money. I had him fix a small section of my roof for a possible leak. I climbed up and inspected it later to find out what a horrible job he did. Never fixed the problem. Anyways, tried calling him back many times and he never returned my call. This business needs to be reported to the Better Business Bureau for stealing people money for doing an incomplete job. By the way, got his number via Pennysaver. I have friends in law enforcement and done some investigations. Steve cannot be trusted. Other folks have been had by him before and I was not the first.

I'm always nervous picking a contract from PennySaver, but I picked a winner with these folks!! We called them out to fix a leak in our more-than-10-year-old roof. He called back the same day, even though it was Sunday, and arranged a time that was convenient for us, to come out. He gave us a quote for fixing the roof, but the existing roof was pretty well shot (loose nails and cracked tiles all over) and he recommended putting on a new roof, which we agreed with. His estimate was pretty reasonable (under $4000), they used good-quality materials (at least, alot better than what was already there), finished in two days, cleaned up their mess. The owner (Steven Laster) had a worker doing the work, but Steven came out several times a day to oversee his work. He also came out and inspected everything before he asked me to sign off on it. He arranged all the city licenses without charging anything extra.

His attitude, before during and after we signed a contract with him, was ""I want to make sure I'm doing what you want, and that you're happy with the work"". As a result, I *am* very happy. I strongly recommend Better Roofing And Repair!!
