We hired Baker Construction for a big remodeling job and were very disappointed, to say the least.

To start, the 4-6 week job took more than 12 weeks to ""finish"" (finish is in quotes on purpose). All of their work would get a C- grade at best. Any tasks they'd complete, we would have to point out the errors/flaws to them and they would have to do additional work to make it ""ok."" They just kept cutting corners instead of doing things the right way. For example, they left huge gaps between the new flooring and baseboards because they didn't remove the baseboards from the wall and move them down from where there used to be carpet. When I pointed this out, he said he would try to fix it. You can see in the pictures that he simply tried to stretch the quarter round instead of removing it and the baseboards and starting over. Further examples: The bathtub they installed wasn't level, the workmanship on the deck and fence repair are very shoddy, and they tried to use/keep old wood from the deck frame when we had agreed the whole deck would need to be replaced. You can see the low-quality workmanship in the pictures.

Furthermore, they are unprofessional and not dependable. Mr. Baker permitted one of his workers to bring their girlfriend and small child to our house while they worked on our deck. They didn't ask us, they just brought them. These strangers then sat by our pool with their feet in the water and eventually were given permission by Mr. Baker to come into our house to use the restroom. When the girlfriend entered, she opened the door to where our pets were locked up instead of the bathroom and our pets escaped (Mr Baker and his dad were working on the front door and had the front door completely off). Luckily my husband heard the ruckus and was working from home that day and was able to wrangle the pets up before they got out of the house. When asked why he let a random stranger and a small child onto our property / into our house, Mr Baker stated that he guessed he was just old school and didn't think it would be a big deal; he (the worker) just couldn't leave the girlfriend at home. I said I should not have to tell a professional that having a small child in a construction zone is not okay, nor is it okay for a stranger to be in our home. As far as dependability, I have notes of each day, week after week where they were supposed to be out to complete work, but ended up not showing up or only showing up for 2-3 hours.

The final thing they did was our master shower. The tile work is very poor in the entire shower (as you can see in the pictures), but especially awful on the shower floor. The cuts are not even and he had to come back more than once to do repairs to try to fix their mistakes. The first time they used chipped tiles and had to replace them. Instead of using the tile we ordered, they got some similar tile from who knows where to use. As of now, there are spots with way too much grout, and some with none...meaning water goes through the floor. Also, they did the mudbed wrong, so there are spots where water pools up. We asked them to address it, and they said they did. They said the shower was completely finished and it would be ready to use 48 hrs later. When we inspected it further, it was still a mess. It was tough to notice at first because they didn't even bother cleaning the tile shower or grout mess at all before they were ""done."" We called to get them to come fix it, and Mr. Baker said they had a family member with Covid, but they would reach out the next day. They never did. We kept calling and they wouldn't return any calls or messages. Come to find out, they blocked our numbers. We found out by calling from a different number. When my husband finally reached the elder Mr. Baker and identified himself, he said ""Goddamned you boy"" and hung up the phone.

There is a 2-year craftsmanship warranty in the contract they include with their work. This was touted to us throughout this process--- anything that goes wrong or isn't installed correctly will be covered by the warranty. Now we are being ghosted. All we wanted was for them to finish the job. We were going to cut our losses with the poor quality work and leave it be. Instead, they decide to not finish the job and block us rather than doing it right and keeping their word (they said when we paid them anything not done would be complete the next week, and he told me this again by text that same afternoon when I pointed out things they had missed).

The instant they got the last payment from us, they were done. They said they would come to fix anything we had an issue with, but that was a lie. They said we were covered under the warranty, but but now won't return any calls or texts except once (after having to use a different unblocked number to get them) finally to say ""you paid us."" Do not trust these men. This was a 12-week nightmare and these men took our money and ran with no intention of doing the right thing and finishing.

Not good. Baker Construction left caulk, painting and some instillation of siding incomplete and just continues to make ""promises"". They did not remove trim and place siding under it as per normal. They just cut it out and did damage to other parts of siding and trim. The broke inside trim as well and very badly replaced or nailed it back. Also broke ofF part of my window ledge outside. They did do a good job leveling my door which was not in the original contract.... That was actually good. They purchased and I paid for 80' of Masonite. I have more than 40' still in my garage that they didn't use to complete the project. I have pics to prove their incompetence. I have proof of the contract and texts showing that they make ""promises"" over and over. Yet when said time to fulfill said promise. Nothing happens. Wish I didn't need to write this but I want to protect others from them

Do not let these men fool you.
I hired them to complete the construction of the master bathroom. The floor was bare and the shower was framed and studs were in place, sub floor was done. I bought all the tile, and asked if it was correct.
This was the epitome of lazy work. It was not done correctly, nor was it done with any pride as evident by their work. (See pictures)

Just to clarify:
1. He knew I wanted the shower completed finished, where all I needed to do was add the shower doors which were going to be ordered and installed by a different vendor. He agreed and said he would do it.
2. His excuse for the tiles not being level was that ""well when they are 2' long, if the floor is not level, the tiles won't be"" LAZY- you build up the thin set to level the floor in areas it's low.
3. The whole reason the shower had been demoed was because there was a leak in the floor. Therefore, the mud pan had to be replaced. Despite his assurance, he DIDNOT level the floor or add a slope to the drain. It is completely uneven and looks terrible.
4. The edges were left raw. ""You didn't say you didn't want that"" ok... you would think if you hire a professional they are supposed to know what to do and how to COMPLETE the work.
5. The tiles were not cut evenly. Raw edges and points are visible around the entire frame.
6. The soap box is not level.
7. He left gaps where he should have tiled.
He left the raw edges of the soap box and claimed ""everyone leaves it that way"" BS. He was too lazy to finish the work.
8. They cut the backer board INSIDE MY HOUSE. I know, how considerate of them!
***since they did this, it completely blocked the filter in my air conditioning unit. It was blocked for an entire weekend -as I was out of town- and I came back to a broken unit. So $$$$ later, I have air again.
9. They finished the work and wouldn't let me walk in to ""inspect it"" because ""it's all wet and you need to wait 24 hours"" Code for: pay me, and when you get to finally see it, I will ignore it.
10. The tile floor is already moving. The grout was not done properly, and not there are chips in the tile.

In short, DO NOT USE THEM. They are the furthest from honest. They took the short way out in EVERY situation, cut corners, and did lazy work.
On top of that, they will now not return any calls, texts, or emails.

Beware. Men will ALWAYS take advantage of you. It's sad I can't trust a contractor to complete a job correctly, without trying to get away with as little work as possible.
