We solicited proposals for repairing or replacing our leaking tar and gravel roof last year, just before the rainy season normally starts. Saul Sanchez of Aztec Roofing (also known as Sanchez & Son Roofing Inc.) was very helpful in determining whether to repair or replace the roof and also in deciding on the best replacement roof for our needs. The Aztec Roofing proposal was expeditiously provided and was very competitive. We selected their proposal for a torch down roof with a cool white cap sheet.

The project went very smoothly and was completed on schedule and before any rain, even though some fairly significant scope additions were required. The additional work involved replacing damaged roof and fascia boards that were identified after the old roof was removed. That work was completed to our satisfaction and was done for a very reasonable price, especially since we were really at their mercy to finish the job. Saul and his crew were hard working and conscientious and I highly recommend them for anyone's roofing work.

One problem did evolve that I want to address. Saul uses white granite granules to cover the black adhesive at the seams between the white roofing cap sheets. The granules are embedded into the adhesive by heating it and then adding the granules. In order to obtain adequate coverage, a lot of extra granules are used. Moderate rain or heavy winds cause the loose granules to flow into the roof drainage trough and then fall around the perimeter of the house. The ground around our house is almost entirely hard surfaces (primarily wood decking and some brick patio). So walking on these hard surfaces picks up the granules and tracks them into the house, where they can damage the floor. Preventing this was quite a nuisance. We cleaned up the fallen granules around the house several times, but more would come down in subsequent storms. The issue seems to be resolved after Saul came back out and cleared out most of the remaining loose granules from the drainage trough. Saul later said that this problem could have been avoided by using white paint on the seams between cap sheets instead of the granules. I hope this experience will be useful for anyone else that has a similar situation.

Aztec Roofing is great! We were selling our house last fall when a tree fell and severely damaged a very old roof. The entire roof had to be replaced. Aztec Roofing accommodated our schedule at the busiest time of the year for roofers (right before the rainy season). They gave us a better estimate than the other roofers, all of whom said it would be three months before they could start work. We had an offer in on the house and absolutely could not wait that long. But it wasn't just the timing, they did an excellent job and always responded to my pushiness politely and professionally. I cannot recommend these guys enough.

Saul, Mark, and the team communicated clearly with me at every step - from the thorough estimate, to the permit process, to the actual work days. The work crew was very focused, very friendly, and very skilled. The roof has weathered this winter so far. Its great. I highly recommend this company, and I know they stand by their work.

Saul and Mark his son were great to work with. We needed to replace my mother-in-laws roof to help us sell her house. Gave us a very fair price on tear off,re-roof including new gutters. Unresponsive. Needed an estimate on gutters. Told him I'm located in Hercules and asked if he serviced this area. He said yes. We scheduled an appointment for Saturday. Didn't show and no phone call. Texted him why the no show. No response. Not cool. Wouldn't recommend.
