Gary upsold me on job, took 9K for half payment of it and then declared bankruptcy after delaying the project for 7 months.
What a waste of time and money. l will be seeking legal damages now.

In 2016, ARC/Gary put a new roof on a house to meet our mortgage company requirements. In order to meet the mortgage company deadline, I paid for some of the work before insurance money arrived. ARC/Gary agreed to refund any overpayment immediately. After several e-mails and phone calls, Gary made multiple promises to repay the overage. He did not honor his pledges. I was forced to litigate (I don't think I'm the only one either). Despite signing a binding agreement to refund my money, over two years later, Gary still hasn't paid me back. Its a shame, because the roofing work seems decent. But I don't trust Gary, and I don't think anyone else should either, he's lied to me too many times.

This company hires individuals and then doesn't pay them after
services rendered and an agreed payment arrangement. DO NOT do
business with Austin Roofing Contractors (Gary Whillock). Had I known
all the facts about his business practices I would not have agreed to work for him under any circumstances. He has owed me $1000 for accounting services and refuses to pay me. I also learned that he has claims against him with Federal Wage and Hour Board and Texas Workforce Commission Wage and Hour for unpaid wages to other individuals.
I am pursuing payment with Small Claims Court and filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau so other individuals don't fall into the same situation as I have.

I had Austin Roofing Contractors replace my roof with a galvalume standing seam metal roof. I waited a couple of months to review just to see if any problems turned up. None have. I watched every detail of the job and was impressed that Gary does everything a little better than he has to. He is a real craftsman that takes pride in his work. . The last two roofs I had done by other companies had many shortcuts and sloppy detail work that I didn't discover until leaks became apparent, long after the insurance-company-recommended pop-up storm chaser companies had moved on to other towns. Austin Roofing Contractors were not the cheapest quote but neither were they the most expensive. Everything from the initial quotation to the finished job was timely, professional, and far exceeded all expectations. I noticed a couple of bad reviews from folks that wanted him to do cheap three tab rental house roofs. That's not their thing. Gary is all about quality. Consider yourself lucky if you can get on his schedule for a roof.

I've had a Gary put in two skylights, and I'm extremely happy with both of them. I had originally planned to only get one, but I liked it so much I called him a couple of months later to do a second one. He has been very accessible via text, and I have enjoyed working with him!

Horrible! After missing our appointment without calling, Gary would not quote our roof replacement without me providing Allstate's adjuster estimate. Shady!

I've used Austin Roofing Contractors twice; once for a fairly significant job and again for a very minor repair. Both jobs were done competently and professionally.
From my perspective, this vendor does not prioritize jobs of the smaller, standalone variety. However, their quality is admirable for both scales of work. I suspect this is the case for most roofing companies who generally must prioritize larger jobs over smaller ones to maintain healthy margins. This practice may be what frustrated others who have posted unfavorable reviews.
I intend to use them again when the need for roofing work arises.

Gary and Austin Roofing Contractors said that work would start 2 weeks after taking half the contract price. Start date came and went, I had to call him to ask where he was at, they couldn't make it he said until another week. I had other work on my roof done prior to re-roof and now my roof was compromised. The next week he calls again and says that he will not be able to come to start work for another week. I couldn't wait with my roof compromised and asked for my money back. To date I still don't have my money. How does this company stay in business? Why can't a service company follow their schedule? Surely they can accurately estimate how long a job will take and FOLLOW THROUGH.

I had a great experience with Gary. He repaired a hole in our roof from a fallen tree branch quickly and for a cheap price, and he did the work while we were out of town. He sent pictures of the progress. Super nice guy. Perplexed by some of the other reviews.

Terrible. Never actually got to work with Gary because of how rude he was on the initial phone call. Belligerence is never necessary, especially if you are in business.
