Associated Builders
Company Overview
John H. Chung launched Associated Builders in 1981 as a sole proprietorship. By 1997, this venture evolved into a California corporation. At present, John oversees an experienced workforce dedicated to high standards in roofing, construction, waterproofing, general engineering, and building.
During the early 1990s, the firm transitioned to earthquake reconstruction and tenant improvement projects. This work included retrofitting semi-high-rise, unreinforced masonry buildings throughout the San Francisco metropolitan region. During the mid-1990s, the company completed various church projects, constructed hillside custom homes after the Oakland Hills fire, and participated in SBA-funded commercial property construction and shopping mall projects. As the 1990s came to a close, the company was significantly active in Silicon Valley's tech construction and in the development of multi-family units and upscale restaurants in Bay Area retail centers.

Recommended Customer Reviews

The Associated Builders team does great work. They are efficient and professional, always putting the customer first. Highly recommend.

Over the many years we have had Associated Builders do both home re-models and repairs, we have been very satisfied with the quality of their work, their honesty and willingness to always make things right. I highly recommend them for any job, large or small.

Unfortunately one square remained unfinished from this project - and after a few months of back and forth, Peter quoted $850 to replace it. Paying nearly 10% of the entire project for a single square felt wrong to me, considering I paid for the entire sidewalk and there was never any discussion of leaving one original square.

We used Associated Builders for two jobs last year. We had our roof replaced and our driveway expanded so we can fit two cars out front. Both bids were competitive and reasonable. Peter and his team handled the roof quickly and professionally. We have made it through a wet winter with no issues. Peter was very communicative and thorough. Sang handled our driveway. The work took about 4 days start to finish. Both the roof and driveway look great! Worth every penny!

I hired them to replace my sidewalk in front of my house. They were prompt and fast, especially since I could barely get any other contractors to get back to me with quotes.

They get my highest rating. Peter is great. The work was well-done. The parts I wasn't happy with they fixed immediately. In several areas where the job requirements or estimate were unclear, they took the high road and included the extra in the original estimate. I had a good deal of rotting siding due to the old roof leaking and they fixed that with high quality workmanship all around. This is a value play -- you're not going to them to get the top of the line roof. But in this category, I couldn't have asked for anything more.

10 years ago my Mom needed her roof done. ABEI was referred to me so I asked for estimate. I also received 2 others. Theirs was not the cheapest but it was the most thorough. They addressed areas that the other companies said were additions and not covered by the roof. We all know the venting area beside most of the houses where the pipes come up by the bathroom windows etc. (the wet wall, it is called).
Last year my Mom passed and we moved into the home. We needed various inspections and such for a V.A. approval and again I went to ABEI John and Peter both came out to view the property and go over what was needed and also what I wanted done.
I forgot to add that they re certified my roof after another inspection at no charge.edit
As we live close to Ocean Beach we needed some concrete work done as well as foundation, windows repaired or replaced and some other issues. All work was done to perfection. Any deviation to what we had asked for was always discussed with me face to face before any of the work had started.
I cannot give a higher recommendation to John and Peter as well as every member of their work force for their diligent effort to satisfy the customer. I have and will recommend them to friends and family and will continue to do so..
Thanks again guys..

I recently called Associated Builders to do some sidewalk repairs after they did such an excellent job on my roof a few years ago...the bid was very reasonable, and the crew was on time and efficient. I would definitely call Associated Builders the next time I need major work done on my house.

Terrible service and no integrity. They were very polite and accommodating until they got the job to fix my uneven sidewalk. The sidewalks were still not level because they did not level the dirt underneath. I also asked them to fix two uneven spots by putting in about a 5-inch diameter bit of concrete, not much - this went terribly, not even, not fully filled, very unprofessional-looking. Despite my very polite asking, they would not come out to fix it. CANNOT recommend this outfit.

They did a great job.
We secured 2 estimates. The differing styles of the the estimators was interesting. Their estimator was very low key. He took a few minutes to view the area, took measurements, & told me it was the type of job they did on a regular basis. An estimator from another contractor took some time to explain to me ""special"" things they had to do to do the work ""right."" However, when I received the written estimates I was a little surprised to see the line by line extent of work was virtually identical. So I went with Associated. I think the other contractor tried to justify his higher bid by telling me all the ""special"" work they had to do.
From start to finish the workers were professional & prompt. On day 1 they demolished & removed the old concrete, then set up for the pour. Day 2 they poured & set the concrete, then set up a perimeter to keep pedestrians out. Day 3 they inspected & wet the set, & took away the protective perimeter.
Today is more than a year after the work. The concrete still looks great. No cracking or chipping. Which is a lot more than I can say for the contractors that did SF city work on our corner. The concrete sidewalk the SF city contractors did, which was done only a few months ago, already has cracks.
