Most roofers HATE foam roofs, and they aren't for every house. But I put one on my flat-rooted SF home 19 years ago (by Armstrong) and was glad that I did..

But it is hard to modify a foam roof. So when I decided to replace the 50-year-old skylights, I decided to have Armstrong do a recoat after the new skylights were installed. So I called Armstrong again and, once again, was absolutely delighted with the effort and the result.

Wayne Leuchters, the Director of Sales, came out exactly at the agreed time. We discussed the job and he was very helpful and thoughtful in specifying the work to be done. The technology has improved quite a bit in 20 years. Foam gives a really good boost to the R-value of the root, and the recoat adds to that.

Then, Takis came out to assess the roof and make his recommendations. This was going to be a tricky job because I had another contractor replacing the three skylights. We needed to schedule Armstrong's visit for the day immediately after the skylight installation. Mike in Production was on the ball there, and managed to get us into the schedule at exactly the right time.

The crew came out on the agreed date (45 minutes early, but that was okay), and they did a great job on the roof. They washed it, prepped it, installed the new metal edging, removed the skylights so they would stay clean (thank you!) laid down the recoat, replaced the skylights, and water-tested the roof. And they cleaned up nicely when done. I especially appreciate the courtesy they showed my neighbor, whom I forgot to warn about the work (I apologized to him afterwards; he commented how nice the Armstrong guys were in helping clean up some foam that had spilled over to his property).

I inspected the roof two days after the job and was delighted with what I saw. I don't know how they did it, but the crew managed to recoat under the satellite antenna sled without moving it, so I didn't have to call for a realignment afterward. And everything looked tight and clean, especially around the skylights and vents. I appreciate the great attention to detail.

I'll admit that this was a relatively expensive job and I hesitated doing it. But Wayne clearly knows his stuff, was patient and walked me through all the options. What he said made sense, and I see that he was absolutely right. Given the high quality of the work and professionalism demonstrated during the job, I now see this as a great investment began to pay off almost immediately. San Francisco, had its first big (and unexpected) storm of the season just a few days after the job -- no leaks, no problems, and it even drained faster.

I have had several windows installed along with exterior painting and a new roof - all through Armstrong. They were honest and forthright about the cost from the beginning and were careful and thorough with their work in the process. My cost estimator, Scott Proctor - even came by to make sure that I was happy during each phase.
They are at the forefront of new roofing technologies and installed a foam roof that will outlast my life.
After years of negative experiences with contractors in our home improvements - I am relieved to have found a sound organization that I can trust
In the future, I will always look to Armstrong first for any home improvement need.

These guys are the pioneers in foam roofing. If you have a flat roof that needs redoing you want to give them a call. First class service; flexible work crew; flexible scheduling, neat and tidy, great communication. They will even come and clean my roof annually. What more could you ask?

We needed our flat roof replaced and conducted extensive research on the most efficient type of material. Our research concluded that a Foam roof is the best choice. There are not many Foam Roofers in the market who do residential properties. We selected Armstrong1234. They are excellent! The service was superb. Although, the job was to start after the winter storms ended, our roof started leaking because of the heavy rain and wind, the roof was definitely in need of repair. We called Armstrong and told them about our dilemma. Without any hesitation, they immediately dispatched their crew, led by Taki, who came during heavy rain and gusty wind and patched the cracks on the wall and roof with an elastic material. Paki was great and knew exactly where to look for the cracks. They did all this work even prior to finalizing our contract. Now that's what I call ""Great Customer Service"". In addition to the emergency call, (The big boss), Mitch Fine called several times to follow up if the job was done to our satisfaction. A month ago, after the end of storm, rain and wind, the real roof was replaced with foam. We are so pleased with the job. Everything was done so meticulously. We have noticed that the insulation inside the house improved, the house stays cooler. A saving in energy bills!!! I highly recommend Armstrong1234 if you need a flat roof replaced. Go with the foam! The benefits outweigh tar and gravel. Thank you for doing such a great job!!!!

This job estimator never called me back or followed up on their own work or return my calls. Ok..... Allowed me to write a little case history... Rewind back a few years.... I bought a brand new roof from Armstrong Roofing a few years back. After the final check was cut and cashed, there was no follow up, post sale. Not a word from him to see if the problems I showed him with my old tar and gravel roof was corrected or not?

Now fast forward back to the present - here and now.... With the winter storms in the San Francisco bay area my roof started dripping around the fall 2010. I called the original roofer, Armstrong Roofing and somehow my service request got escalated to the CEO Mitch Fine and as we chatted on it turns out we both went to the same high school. He was a awesome professional businessman who gave me many options on what he can do for my roof as he says they been super busy with the storms and he would help me on my roofing problem. Many many awesome kudos to Mitch.

********************* UPDATED March 2011 ***************************

ARMSTRONG Roofing representatives - CEO Mitch Fine and Takis Hanoumis -are great business minded professional who takes care of their customers - new and old. It was a pleasant experience dealing with these two gentlemen. I would have no problem recommending work for them. Heck, when my other properties in the Sunset District and in the Silicon Valley needs a new roof, I will probably buy another Armstrong roof but only from Mitch or Takis. Same goes for the crew who did the physical labor. Kudos to them for doing a awesome job as well.

Hence, I am changing my rating from a 1 star to a 5 star.

********************* UPDATED January 2012 ***************************

Monitoring the storms of 2012 as it seemed to literally stopped raining after Armstrong worked on my roof in 2011....

Still giving Mitch, Takis and the crew a 5 star for service... Feel free to contact me if you need more information.

I wanted a foam roof and called Armstrong and one other place. The other place sent me a quote via email and never saw my roof live. Armstrong came out quickly, gave me a quote and offered me some breaks for various things. Their quote was actually better than the other place and the estimator was very honest and kind. I felt no pressure to buy right then and there.

We scheduled the ""event"" and everything went pretty much as they said it would. They were efficient and clean. One day I was home and locked myself out of my house and they went over the roof into the back yard to let me back in.

My roof is now shiny white and does not leak at all. My house has old wiring so I can not insulate it. I have noticed a difference in the inside temp. staying more moderate than before the roof.

If you are not sure, try watching their videos on their website. It was what convinced me. If I had the chance to do it again, I would call them. Based on my experience, I will use them for my windows in the future!

Interesting reading the other reviews here. Also interesting they have so few reviews given how big they are?

Anyway, I was shopping around for a foam roof and a relative in the East Bay told me I should call them because they have ads on the radio all the time and he couldn't forget the phone number. I called, they came, showed up and gave me a quote. Well, it was the most expensive, but after looking around, they do have the best warranty, and they weren't gong to nickel and dime me for other little things I needed to do while having the roof done (move a downspout, install bathroom fans, etc).

The work was done (it's a tough job and messy so don't expect ANYONE is going to not make a mess) on time and all the people from Armstrong I've talked to have been responsive.

I guess I can only give them 5 stars after I live with the roof over a year and see how it effects my heating and cooling cost as the foam is supposed to do.

If you want the best (and most expensive) you go with Armstrong in my view.

We had our house painted almost 5 years ago by Armstrong. The workmanship was excellent, including very careful preparation and attention to detail. Other houses in the neighborhood have been painted a lot faster and less expensively, but the work that we had done by Armstrong will last a lot longer in our opinion. The work-crew consisted of several men who were very courteous and careful to protect our property from damage. We had a few things that needed correcting after a few years and found that Armstrong was extremely easy to work with to make us very satisfied with the job including the warranty work. There were no arguments. In all cases, we found the painters to be very professional and caring about our needs. We highly recommend Armstrong and the painters that they provide, as well as the phone service and actions taken by their Customer Service and Warrantee department. I normally do not give 5 stars for anything, but the service and quality performance was fabulous.

In November we needed to have our roof replaced and we started calling roofers to get estimates. Armstrong Roofing scheduled the estimate and then never showed up. They didn't even call to let us know there were problems. We called them to let them know that the person never showed up for the estimate. The woman in customer service had some stupid excuse for the person who was supposed to do our estimate and against my better judgment my husband re-scheduled. So, our second scheduled estimate appointment came and went and guess what? They didn't show up or call. Same as last time. I was livid. It is not like I am a stay at home mom and I just have time to sit around and wait for people to show up. That is why you make an appointment.

I will never do business with Armstrong roofing.

If you can't show up when a sale is on the line then how will you handle your customer when they really need you?

We recently bought our house, which has a flat foam roof. I had Armstrong come out for an estimate on one slight leak that we were having. They said the roof hadn't had any work done during the last 10 years and that it needed a complete resurfacing for $10K. I then went back through our house purchase paperwork and it turns out that Armstrong had done work on the roof only 1.5 years ago and said that it should last 3-5 years after their work. I called them about this but they wouldn't stand behind their previous work.

I then had another vendor come out, who said that a $500 repair would be fine and that I don't need to do the resurfacing work for another several years.

Lastly, the Armstrong person used a lot of high-pressure sales tactics (""for you, I'll drop the price""; ""you have to agree to the work very soon before prices go up""; trying to get me to sign then and there), which I didn't appreciate.
