Finding the best way to install a new roof on a flat roofed home (MCM Eichler) is a bit daunting. It requires quite a bit of research, time, energy, and patience to explore all of the available options. I'm not going to speak about all of the options here, but will focus on foam roofing, which I believe to be the best all-around option for roofs with little to no pitch.
When it comes to foam roofers, there is not as many options in the Bay Area as I would have expected given the number of Eichler neighborhoods there are. I contacted all of the firms I could, and had a frustrating experience in having several no-shows after I'd scheduled an appointment for an estimate.
So, when Scot Proctor (senior estimator) from Armstrong Roofing showed up on time, walked the roof with me, spent tons of time and expertise discussing the state of my roof and the options, I was impressed. I had several additional wrinkles in my roofing project (installing new canned led lights in the ceiling/roof, rebuilding a deck overhang, and drainage pipe issues) and Scot patiently worked with me (and some subs) to not only get the job done, but to get it done well. I can't speak too highly of his flexibility and willingness to work to best meet my needs. Truly exceptional service.
When the roofing crew, led by Eliseo (foreman), came by to perform the work, they were prompt, thorough, and professional. Even after the re-roofing, Scot has continued to be in contact with me regarding my satisfaction with the work, and roof quality.
As another reviewer mentioned, the new foam roof has helped with house insulation, especially in keeping it cooler in the summer (we don't have HVAC/AC). We've had our new roof for approximately two years now, and were very happy with the performance of the roof during the heavy rains last winter (no issues whatsoever).
So, after having lived with the roof now I'm posting an overdue review in endorsement for Armstrong Roofing... thanks, great job!

I don't give out five stars very often, but the people I have dealt with from armstrong deserve it.
From our salesman, to the actual workers on our job, they have been attentive, and professional.
Our foam roof has really helped insulate our home. There seems to be a 10° to 15 ° difference on hot days, with lowering the inside temperature of the house.
I'm actually comfortable on warm days, without A/C. We'll see if the insulating values of the foam roof continue through our hottest days of the summer, still yet to come.
My roof had a couple of trouble spots, and they were quick to come and fix any problems we had. They even came back and cleaned our windows, when I told them there was still some residue on them, from the new foam roof they installed.
We are very happy knowing we don't have anymore leaks in our 80 year old home, and if we did, we know Armstrong would be on it!
I'd also like to give a shout out to the office workers. they were polite, and efficient the few times I called with questions. There were no paperwork or communication mix ups.
There, I think I've covered it all.

I have a flat roof and had my roof done 10 or 11 years ago and sadly, the roof had problems. It was asphalt/bitumen roof and the warranty had expired. I called the roofer and he gave me another estimate. I called another roofer and got another estimate and was told that due to my roof being flat, that I should sweep excess water off the roof to avoid this problem. I then talked to my neighbor and his roof is 20+ years old and he has had no problems. He has an Armstrong Foam roof.
Armstrong Foam Roofing was my answer and they were highly professional explaining the process. My next door neighbor also has an Armstrong Foam roof about 15 years ago and no problems. I highly recommend Armstrong. The crew was very respectful and clean during the process and after process. We just had the worst storm of the season in 10+ years and not one problem with my roof.

From the time of the estimate for foam roofing on our flat roof through the installation Armstrong gave us wonderful service.
They were efficient and pleasant to work with. We recommend them highly.

This company rocks. I had them give me a quote last January to foam my roof. They honored the quote when I pulled the trigger in August. The sales staff were very responsive whenever I had a question before and during the installation.
The installation crew were absolutely fabulous. They came on time and cleaned up the area every day. When they did the foam they covered every car in the neighborhood, even the two cars in the carport across the street. They were among the most professional folks I've met. I don't know who does the training but they were 6 star IMHO.
The job was outstanding. The foam insulates the house much better than the old tar and gravel.
The best part was the financing 12 months same as cash.

They sent a creepy guy who was in a orange vest to come door to door in our neighborhood. He looked disheveled and was rude. He drove up and down our block slow and looked into yards and windows while people were away from home. All of us on NextDoor thought he was casing the neighborhood. Note to Armstrong: Have your people drive a car with your company logo on it and present themselves in a professional manner if you are going to send them door to door in 2015.

We had our flat roof redone by Armstrong. We opted for the foam roof and although a bit pricey, it was worth every penny and more! The service was outstanding - especially the way with which the crew took great care in making sure the work area was safe and our cars protected. Cleanup was very well done as well. Now we can enjoy our den area without sweltering even on the hottest days! Thank you Armstrong! Well done!

I will give 0 if I could.
I ask for a estimate on replacing my flat roof. They show up on time. My flat roof it's at most 600sqft and the sales gave me a $7800 quote on replacing my roof before he take a look at the at the roof. Actually he didn't take a look at my roof at all.
He also really pushy and it though like the $7800 roof replace job it's a really small job for them. He also claimed that he gave me this price on the phone which it's totally not true.

Well, I will tell you why you need to use Armstrong Painting. They are very professional in their work, matched the paint color to the front of my house just perfectly. The work was done in a timely fashion, as quoted no loud music, and painters who were clean and meticulous. Are they the cheapest, no, but they are the best.
We are not special people, live in Redwood City and only had the front of the house painted as it faded from the western sun exposure. Armstrong did paint the entire inside and outside of our home 5 years ago, which is why we went back to them. Perfect job, no mess, and on time.

Recently we had Armstrong reroof our house with sprayed-in-place foam. The flat roof is a complex affair on five different levels, and had a built-up (tar-and-gravel) roof it was time to redo. After realizing that it made sense financially to have a solar array installed (especially given the possibility of counting an allocated portion of reroofing costs in the cost of the solar installation and thereby increasing the Federal solar energy credit to which we were entitled), and that we wanted to incur these costs in 2016 rather than the previous year, we delayed both projects accordingly and had Armstrong coordinate the work with the solar installers, since the stanchions for the racks holding panels had to go in before the foam was applied. We'd hesitated between reroofing with PVC membrane and reroofing with foam, and obtained estimates from several firms. Since no tear-out of the existing roof (just removal of the gravel) was required with foam, the cost with Armstrong's proposal was actually cheaper than with PVC membrane proposals, and in addition, we were greatly attracted to the R11 insulating value of the foam. We have subsequently found, in fact, that this insulating value keeps the house noticeably more comfortable in very hot or very cold weather. Our communication with Mr. Dequesada, the sales representative, was very clear and pleasant, as was our communication with other Armstrong personnel. Armstrong also coordinated perfectly with the solar installers. Workmen were thoroughly professional and efficient, and were meticulous about protecting areas around the house (including cars in front and a house next door) with plastic sheeting when foam and protective granules were applied. Previously, the roof had had severe problems of ponding on the largest level, and Armstrong did a good job of introducing enough slope to improve drainage and eliminate ponding. We were also pleased with their upgrading of the coping, range hood blower exhausts, and a skylight that needed to be replaced. A solar installer (who has deep general building experience and has seen many new roofs) told us that Armstrong did an excellent job, and we ourselves are very pleased with how the job went and with the results.
