Panfilo Armas from American Roofing Company, based in Richmond, CA, was a pleasure to work with. I chose to work with him because he was recommended by a tradesperson and long-time friend who had American Roofing complete the roofing for his home. Panfilo was prompt in answering my texts and always clearly answered my questions. He was thorough in presenting options and provided me with multiple photos of different problem areas on my roof, which had last been re-roofed over 23 years ago. He helped me prioritize areas of importance to focus on and presented a reasonable estimate based on the different options he presented. Because of his positive demeanor and thoroughness of his assessment, I chose to hire him and his crew to complete an entire new roof. Panfilo and the crew did excellent work. I am very happy with the results and highly recommend American Roofing Company.

starting with the management and office staff this company is VERY unprofessional and unreliable. the office lady Theresa will tell you she has an appointment for you but no such thing, cause no one ever shows up. she also does not return your phone call like she promised. they must have caller id, cause they will stop picking up the phone when you call. since when does it take a month to finish a basic roofing job. very careless with your property. i had to give one star to get started but, american roofing company deserves hundreds of negative stars.

This company is very unprofessional , starting with the owner. I parked my car in front of a building and when I cam out it was surrounded with big trucks and debris from the roof all over my car. The men on the roof throwing it down were very rude and told me I should not have parked there. Its Sunday and there are no signs stating that there would be work there. The owner came down and told me to wash the car and send him an invoice but never offered his card. There was a worker standing by the truck and when he saw me go to take a picture of it he moved in front of it to stop it. He then told me I could call the police. The owner allowed this to happen only to say the man was a sub. I would not advise anyone to use this company.

This company is very unprofessional as well as unreliable. They never showed up for their appointment and didn't even bother to call to let me know. Almost a week has past and not even an email. Nevertheless, i have moved on and decided to go with another roofing company.

I called Amrican Roofing to replace our old tar and gravel roof with a new compound material roof. Their response was immediate. Panfilo Armas came to inspect the roof and his estimate was honest and reasonable. Their crews is skilled and quick and our new roof was installed in just two days, leaving our house perfectly clean.

My husband and I are elderly and weary of intimidating contractors, so we were impressed by American Roofing. Panfilo was polite and pleasant, and we have no doubt that he will stand by the quality of his work.

We will absolutely recommend ARC to family and friends.

I am a real estate professional and have used ARC several times. There are always issues with construction and with roofing in particular. Water is hard to trace. Despite this, I choose ARC because their work is very good and their prices are fair. They are busy so some appointments may not be kept and often higher priority leaks are more urgent. If you understand this, I think you will be happy with ARC. They have been my top choice for years.

They had installed the roof at the time of the previous owner and it has never had a m. Nevertheless, after 10 years, I thought its good to have an inspection. Panfilo came over on time and did a quick inspection for free. He was very pleasant.

American Roofing did a great job. They are reliable , showed up when they were suppossed to, tore off the roof and had the new roof on within the day. They cleaned up well...no remnants left behind. I have recommended them to several friends and they were also VERY HAPPY with their work.

NO Stars if That Were Possible!

I'm in agreement with the other reviews. I called numerous times and also took time off work to meet with them -to no avail. Since I always got the ""runaround"" with phone calls, I decided to send the complaint by certified mail. All were sent back to me as ""Unclaimed"". The Better Business Bureau was also contacted; American Roofing didn't respond to them either.

The roofing job was satisfactory, but after reading the other reviews, it appears that we'll be in BIG TROUBLE if there's ever a leak-even though there's a 10 year guarantee. American Roofing might be fine if there's no problem, but that isn't always the case. They never seemed to answer their phone nor did they return calls( I left very polite messages).

THE PROBLEM:
1) Crown molding at top of building damaged by their crew. They
said that they would take care of it but never did. We paid for the repair.
2) Garbage chute was improperly installed. It's crooked and the bottom is upside down. The bottom funnel doesn't cover the entire garbage can. The upper sprinkler is attached with silver tape instead of something more permanent. There's more, but this is enough for now.

To be fair, there are some POSITIVES:
1) Jim Ratti (and Panfilo Armas-the stated owner?)--this is public information--were very personable.
2) Information from some local rating booklets are positive.
Our impresssion of them was that they also did bigger jobs, not just for home/building owners. Perhaps they respond better to the concerns of their larger clients.

OTHER INFORMATION-followup:
I was motivated to write this review because of the article in SF Chronicle concerning roofing ratings on 6-5-11. American Roofing was not listed as far as I know.
