Brian and the team did a great job responding to our community's request for coping cap installation. Our building is on the newer side, but the builder didn't include coping in the original build. After the heavy rains of the 22/23 winter, we were needing a solution to cracking stucco on our rooftop parapet walls. Altek was extremely responsive, conscious of our busy schedules, our property, and the team came out and created a product that is not only appealing to the eye, but extremely durable while keeping affordability in mind. They presented several options during the proposal process which was greatly appreciated. I'd gladly work with them on a future project.

I was looking for a metal roofer for our large patio structure, which ties into our house. I got some pretty insane quotes during my research. However, Don at Altek was quite reasonable, and so with that we decided to go for it. I was a bit hesitant initially as one of the reviewers pointed out that they are not detail oriented (turns out that was under the previous ownership). And I am a VERY PICKY customer. But I gotta say - these guys delivered! No discussions on any details I wanted to have taken care of - they just did it without complaining, and they did it great! Job well done guys! Can't wait to have you do project phase II.

Altek completed our standing seam roof a couple of weeks ago and we had a wonderful experience working with them. Their price was competitive and the craftsmanship was quality. We did encounter a couple of rain days during the installation and everything went as planned. I had consistent communicated with ownership and coordinated with the installation staff daily. Upon completion of the job, every bit of loose metal and trash was cleaned up and removed from the property. The Altek installers are all top notch and our roof is a work of art. We received exactly what we wanted and couldn't be more satisfied.

Additionally:

I read the other reviews and it is unfortunate that someone had a bad experience. I have been dealing with multiple contractors and have some advice that has helped me during our extensive home project.

1) Thoroughly research the products you want installed. Know everything about it and all the other associated materials that are needed. The upfront effort you put in will save you tons of headaches later and help your contractor give you exactly what you want. This up front research includes: primary materials, underlayment or substates, metal gauge (thickness), coating type, color, any metal profiles or shapes, gutter shapes, lengths and locations, downspout lengths, angles and locations, general prices for material, general pricing for installation and installation times. It can even be helpful to know where your materials are made and delivery times to your location. Yes, it seems like a lot, but if you want a good project you have to put in the time.

2) Understand the time it takes to do a job of your size and be flexible when challenges arise. It is also important to know that there will be decisions that you need to make quickly if you have not delineated these ahead of time. Understand that when you press a contractor the quality level will go down so make sure you are working together. Obviously, there are times when things are taking too long but when you have a good contract (see #3) everything goes a lot better.

3) Have a solid contract with all decisions made up front. Having all your decisions made up front and in writing will get things moving more efficiently. Coordinate all your desires and make sure it is in writing. This is also the time to discuss schedule as well. Just ensure that you are flexible and understand the work flow and #2 above. Remember, It is your responsibility as the homeowner to ensure that the contract is tight. If you miss something up front, you really have nothing to complain about later. (It took over a week to go through our contract and make sure everything was tight and Altek was totally accommodating).

4) Understand that as the homeowner, you are the project manager and need to stay on top of things. Completing #1, #2 and #3 above really helps with this because then you will know what you are talking about. Altek's foreman and installers addressed every concern I had; and believe me, I had a lot of concerns. We had a very hard rain during installation and I was worried. The underlayment held up with flying colors and we were truly ""dried in"" as they said. During the weather, management kept in touch and we discussed when work would continue.

5) Be prepared for your property to be a messy. When you see a pile of material or waste just be patient and positive and know that they will clean it up. During our installation I noticed a couple of screws on the walkway and I spoke with the foreman; never had a problem again. Construction is chaos and there are moments that seem to never end; STAY POSITIVE!

6) Clearly understand that contractors do want to get paid. Again, This is where a clear and tight contract comes into play. What I have found in my experience is that when I see the project reach a certain agreed upon stage, I reach out to the contractor and let them know that payment is ready. This really establishes a very positive relationship with the contractor and they become more a teammate than service provider or even adversary.

7) Build into your budget an amount for contingencies and unknowns. On every project there are things that come up that no one could have expected. Sometimes it is more efficient to pay a little more and have the contractor take care of it. At our project, there was a strip of plywood that extended beyond the roof line which needed to be cut off in order for the roof to go together flush at the edge. When this was brought to my attention, I stayed calm and together with the roofers, made the determination that it was more efficient to have them cut it off rather than perform the work myself. And yes, it was an unexpected additional cost and it worked out in the end.

8) More often than not; a good client equals a good project and good projects make good contractors and good contractors create quality work; It all starts with you!

Hope this helps someone. Good Luck!!

I completely agree with the review left by Dave G and I would think one star is generous. I have a roof that took almost 2 weeks and constant badgering on our part to complete and now my homeowners insurance won't cover the roof under the policy because Altek refuses to supply me with a completion invoice and building permit.

We were recommended Altek by another customer who was very happy with them. So we ponied up the extra money above a traditional comp shingle roof assuming this would be the last roof we would ever need.

We were given zero notice of when the job would start. We had to call company several times and were eventually told Monday and the crew should be there before noon. Thats it. Two guys show up and things seemed to be going ok the first day. Only thing is they left a HUGE mess with just stuff all over the entire yard - equipment, metal scraps, etc etc.
Owner contacts us to say that we never picked a color for the gutter and he needed us to do that asap and someone would leave a color sheet under our porch mat. When we tried to ask him about price, etc b/c we might just put it up ourselves later we were told, 'if you want to put that cheap crap on your roof be my guest but its your roof.' very unprofessional.

By the second day we were noticing that there were lots of jagged edges and inconsistencies in the roof. Our roof is easily visible from the front yard and almost at eye level so we could see everything. We tried to bring these up to the installer but not much changed. By the end of the week we were feeling horrible about our decision to go with Altek to pay almost 3 times a normal roof price and have it look so horrible. Several days only one guy showed up to do the job so it took over a week for a roof that is a small rectangle. When we emailed the owner pictures of our roof he bluntly said we are not getting a sub-standard roof and that he would be out Monday at 9 am to go over the job with us, his project manager and his #1 installer. We said we won't want anyone on our roof doing any more work until we meet to go over the job.

Monday at 8:45am we arrive home to find the same installer up on the roof by himself. We were shocked and very upset! When we ask where Dan was he blandly said Dan was sick and won't be coming. He said the project manager would be by at 10am. The project manager showed up at 11am. No call to say he would be late.

We thought we had everything sorted out and Altek sent their ""#1 guy"" out with the same installer to finish the job (the other installer who had started the job had apparently taken another job the previous week). When they told us they were 100% done, there were still inconsistencies, roofing sealant smeared across the roof, scuff marks and a vent flashing that was buckled that someone left, etc etc. Again we took pictures and sent them and said this is not right. The buckled vent was guaranteed to leak and that was their idea of 100% after having to go back twice to complete the job.

The worst part is that now my homeowners insurance won't warranty the roof. All they need is an invoice showing installed dates, materials used and the signed building permit inspection card. I have tried for 3 months and have gotten the runaround. I have left countless emails and phone calls. I've been promised the owner will contact me and have received nothing. Now they are just ignoring my requests for information that should be standard for any job. I feel sick to my stomach that we spent so much money for a roof that is not covered. I still think a metal roof is a great idea but I would NEVER recommend this company. Stay Away!!

After doing my research of the pros and cons with switching over to metal roofing, I persuaded my grandparents in Chula Vista to trust me. Every time I visit them, they seem to always complain about their energy bills and they disregard my opinions about turning over to the more ""energy efficient"" life style. At first, I wasn't sure about investing in Altek Roofing because there were only a couple reviews that I could rely on. I e-mailed Daniel Marion and got a response the same day. He and his people were super informative, answering all of my questions and concerns. It has been a couple months since I last saw the finished product but my grandparents randomly call to thank me for the advice. Thanks Altek for your quality work and for saving my family a lot of money.

I live in San Diego and my house needed a new roof and new look. The old existing shake roof was an eye sore and was falling apart. Altek Roofing removed the old shakes and installed a new metal roof. It's looks so great, we just love it. They know metal roofing!

Bottom line if you use this company: Owner is not very detail oriented... at all. Take good notes and get everything in writing up front. You have to follow through on every detail because they will not and will make excuses. Progress payments are good because it seems they are more interested in collecting the next payment rather than focusing on the customer and asking whether everything is as agreed. Workmanship and quality... well, as long as you stay on them and continue to partly manage the job, it gets done but a lot of frustration could be avoided just by having the owner not make excuses and instead focus on the quality of the job. Honesty is an issue too... however, I'll just recommend that you get everything in writing and follow up yourself. A lot of sloppy work that was called 'complete' several times. If you are VERY persistent you get a decent job, but there is a level of arrogance and ""I just finished I'm ready to pick up the check"" that as a business owner I've not seen. I eventually got a good product but it was a very frustrating process that took almost a month to complete.
