The back story: Roof leak showed up after Hurricane Harvey
o Alpha Restoration (AR) called out to repair 2 leaks at chimney/roof intersection.
o Their comment were: know what the problem is; seen before.
o Gave 5 year warranty on repair, the only stipulation if leak was caused by foot traffic they wouldn't honor repair. There was no foot traffic around the leak area.
o 2 years later in Dec. 2020 one leak came back. Two days later AR came out to look, but said no way it could have been their repair. We did this and this and this, blah - blah - blah. I asked about the seal coat. Response was not his problem - manufacturer's problem - even though the product has a 10+ year guarantee. Bottom line: not his problem.
o Two weeks later, the first leak reappeared and the second leak reappeared. Texted AR to discuss. After two weeks of no response, I texted again, and finally AR came out. Again, same answer as before. And this time he had the person who did the repair look and again not their problem.
o I wanted to put water on the chimney and cut windows in the sheet rock inside so we could see from where leak was coming. First thing out of his mouth: who is going to pay for the labor to do this??? Not me!! I would have expected a response like good idea - we will worry about payment after we determine the problem. Also said this was his last callout to discuss this problem without billing me!!!
o So it was left that he would send out a crew to do the water test. As of 2/6/21, no response of any kind.
o I got another roofer to investigate. Within 30 minutes we had our answer - the repair performed by AR was defective. The AR repair leaked like a sieve. We would have known quicker if I had let the roofer check out the AR repair, but I had them go into the attic looking for a different source for the problem believing the AR repair was good.
o So that is basis for the low rating - poor workmanship, no customer focus, no warranty on work performed even though gave a 5 year warranty and a lot of arrogance. Buyer beware!!!
o 2/28/21: update - still no contact from AR, I sent an email to AR asking for reimbursement of the repair by the second roofer. AR response, for customer satisfaction they will pay 50% of the repair. Remember, they warranted the leak for 5 years. Again another excuse: ""...the leak was due to the chimney moving."" Well for the chimney to move to create the gap from their mis-repair, it would have had to move vertically. To my knowledge, there hasn't been earthquake recently in the Houston Area!! Buyer beware!!!
