Wow! Such phenomenal people at ALIVE. We recently bought a home and had Mike come out to check out the status of the roof. It looks somewhat old, so I was expecting a necessary replacement right around the corner. Mike told us that the roof has a solid few years left! He did a thorough evaluation when he was here and noticed some drilled holes that were left by a different solar company when the previous owner had solar panels installed. Talking with the Home Warranty company it was ultimately figured out to have that other solar company fix their error without cost to us. When our roof needs replacing down the line, we'll definitely be using ALIVE. Thank you Mike and ALIVE for being an honest company! I look forward to working with you guys in the future!!
Carol T.New roof and solar completed today. Adam, Dan, Mike and the rest of the crew were great, thanks to all of you for a wonderful experience. If you need a new roof, solar or both, look no further, hire Alive, they're the best.
Gary H.Def a solid company in a sea of losers. First, Adam came out physically to walk me through all the details of a bid. Second, the installation team went above and beyond, even when faced with a poorly designed electrical setup from another contractor; They held to their word and bid. Lastly, their final setup with SDGE and follow up was superb.
I would highly recommend them alone, on their word and trust... but overall install and service was excellent!
Susie L.We are really pleased with the new roofs on our house, garage, and guest cottage! These are older structures with flat, vertical, and pitched roof lines, so it was a challenge. I so appreciated Mike's suggestions about how to address a vertical area with a special treatment and what material would work for our flat areas. I'm pretty surprised at how wonderful our 1930 vintage house turned out and how nice it looks. The crew started when predicted, finished in less time than estimated, and did a daily cleanup so that we weren't tracking a mess in and out of our house. The price estimate was a bit under what it turned out to be, but that was because there was damage that wasn't obvious until the old roof was removed. The cost sheets I was given in advance allowed me to keep a running tally of what overruns to expect. The best suprise is no surprise, so I am grateful for that. We were pleased with the work and the price. I recommend them with no reservations, whatsoever.
Rudi M.Professional and Conscientious. I never had to move forward with my intended project because I received accurate assessment of the situation from Mike and Sangeeta. I requested Alive Solar to look at the condition of my roof vents based on a report from a Pest Management company that rodents are getting into the attic through deteriorated roof vents. Mike went out for a free survey and found out there was nothing wrong with my roof vents. Sangeeta then informed me of the situation through the phone, that my vents and roofing are in good condition. This led me to consult with a more reputable pest management company and properly addressed the issue. As an owner working overseas, Alive's professional approach enabled me to make the right decision even while away - at NO cost. This review is the best I can offer in return. It's hard to find conscientious and professional service companies like Alive Solar nowdays. Mike and Sangeeta had been professional throughout. I would definitely hire Alive Solar and Roofing if I ever have any roof related issues in the future.
Adam and his team were professional and knowledgeable. The finish work on the new electrical panel and inverter was perfect. Once we received approval from SDG&E the install only took a few days. We are very happy with our solar system.
During my home purchase I requested a roof inspection and was surprised to find I needed an entire new roof. The inspector was professional and thorough. Altho not happy with the news, I felt confident and comfortable hiring ALIVE Solar & Roofing for the new roof. From the start to the end of the process the roofers arrived on time, were professional and cleaned up after each day.
Dan H.Alive did a great job with our solar instalation. Everyone in the company was easy to work with. The install went quickly and our system is working great. They also did a roof check and minor repairs at the same time. Highly recommend anyone thinking about solar to at least talk to Alive before making a decision.
Eric H.I've waited a while to review while trying to figure out how best to leave the review. I went with Alive for solar install in December '18, main reason being the good reviews and the fact that Alive offered both roofing and solar - my hope was that having roof and solar managed by the same company would make the job relatively seamless. Instead, my experience with Alive almost felt like dealing with 3 different companies; one for the quote, one for roofing, one for solar install.
The salesperson seemed a bit overwhelmed throughout the quoting process. I didn't get a comfortable feeling from her, but already had 3 quotes, so was able to double check the accuracy and ask her to fix mistakes. She never even came to my property, and most times had trouble remembering when we had spoken and what we had spoken about. I would give a 1 out of 5 to the quoting process.
Roofing was tough as well - the roofer seemed very knowledgeable, but I don't feel he took the time to adequately assess the condition of my roof. Granted, it was a tough job for him since my roof is almost 40 years old and tiled with ceramic tiles. I was willing to do the job right, including any roof replacement as needed in preparation for the solar install, but the roofer quickly assessed the roof and told me that no work was needed prior to install. I insisted that a partial roof replacement happen prior to panel installation and I felt like I had to convince him to do the job. Ultimately, post solar installation, I had a number of roof leaks occur (in areas that had not been replaced) and am very happy that I insisted on the partial roof replacement. There was some finger pointing between the roofers and the solar install guys about the cause of the leaks, and I felt in the middle waiting to get the roof and interior repairs done (the largest leaks seemed to have resulted from underlayment tears in the path installers took to access the install location for the panels. They removes tiles to keep from breaking them, but inadvertently left tears in the older underlayment, resulting in leaks and damage to ceiling and internal walls twice). The repairs made were adequate even though I had to fight to get them to take responsibility after the 2nd leak in the same location. Also, the communication was horrible when it came to scheduling. I didn't know who I was supposed to hear from for scheduling of the roof work or panel install, and heard from noone unless I called. I probably stressed out the salesperson because she was the only number I had, but I feel it's reasonable to get more than 2 days advanced notice when trying to plan for $24,000 worth of roof work and solar install. I would give roofing 2 stars (being pretty generous).
Once the solar installers showed up, I finally experienced the 5 star service I was expecting from the Yelp reviews. They were communicative, professional, clean, and did a good job of install. Painted all the exterior conduit to match the house, repaired the stucco and painted where they went through the wall into the garage for accessing the panel. Just good, clean work. Yes, they did tear the roof underlayment during install (because they were trying to keep from breaking tiles), but were incredibly responsive and made sure to help me get the roofing repairs done and personally took care of the interior repairs. They were happy to make sure the damage was remediated to our expectation. As for the solar itself, we love it. Have had no problems and are happy with the decision. 5 out of 5 for the solar install.
Andrew A.Alive Solar did an amazing job! They walked me through all the steps and explained everything thoroughly. There were no surprises and they got the job done in a couple days. Dan, in particular, as well as Ryan and Shant, were amazing, and Dan even did some extra work on my house during his downtime doing the project, and Ryan hooked up my sprinkler system. Great guys! Dan continues to monitor my panels and keep me posted on any abnormalities and how to fix them to get the most solar generation possible. The owner, Adam, has also checked in several times and helped with my setup with SDG&E, in order to be on the most beneficial plan. A+. I would highly recommend!
