Early one late September Sunday morning I heard a drip-drip at the back of my living room and was horrified to see a puddle on the floor and rain water dripping in from a small section of flat roof (the rest of the house is welded metal roofing). Not only was it Sunday and eve of Rosh Hashanah but I'd never dealt with a roofer. I did a quick Yelp search and found Sean - at first I found the 25 5-star reviews unbelievable, but decided to call the number. On a Sunday morning (!) he picked up the phone, listened to my problem, and said he'd be able to swing by in about 1-2 hours. 90 minutes later he was here - inspected the faulty roof and offered several ""quickie"" repair options. We also discussed longer-term repair to this and the flat roof on the garage.
The small repair was completed in no time and it lasted even through Ian's rain. Meanwhile, Sean submitted a few alternative approaches for the long term solution. His analyses and quotes were thorough and complete. Full disclosure: I'm a persnickety and detailed person who asks a LOT of questions. Sean welcomed all of my queries - he saw it as an opportunity to provide me what I needed to move forward with confidence, and NOT as challenging his experience.
We decided on a full re-roof of the garage and the small rear section. This was not a huge project, but I was treated as though I was the most important client in the world. Also, Sean uses technology to keep in touch and to establish a great dialog - e-mail, texting, and the Joist contractor app for quotes, approvals and invoicing. My kind of business partner!
Sean's team took care of all the permitting work with the City and after the deposit was paid, refused any additional payments until the job was completed and done to my satisfaction.
About the work: during the course of the project, it became apparent that it would be more involved than expected. The work crew stayed until after the sun set, working under floodlights!! They were committed to sealing the garage roof in one go. There was no ""balance bill"" for the unanticipated extra effort.
Additionally, in the course of stripping the old roof from the garage, there was some tar staining and scattered stucco damage to the garage exterior (the house had just been painted the year before). It wasn't even a point of contention - Sean immediately assured me that the stucco would be repaired and the affected areas repainted, at their expense. This last part was slightly delayed, not due to Sean, but due to inclement weather. Anyway, as of today, the garage looks as though nothing had happened.
When the city building inspector came to look at the completed job, he said ""Wow - you found yourself a great roofer. They did an outstanding job."" !!!
In short, a heart-stopping ceiling leak led to a low stress, highly organized and professional re-roofing job that should (I hope!) last for the rest of my natural life.
Those 25 5-star reviews are no lie. I consider myself very fortunate to have found Sean and his team. You will too. I can be a very difficult and demanding client and they surprised and delighted me at every turn. I can happily recommend Affordable Roofing and Repairs without reservation.
