This company has very unprofessional customer service. I just called to request a quote for my roof in Concord, and the woman on the phone greeted me so rudely, and when I told her that I was in Concord, she said that the company doesn't even serve homes in Concord, even though the Good Service Guide states that they serve the East Bay. Without apology, she said that Concord isn't in the East Bay! It's one thing to mislead your potential clients and not serve all of the cities in the East Bay, but it is a completely other beast to claim that Concord isn't even in the East Bay when it clearly is! I wouldn't recommend this company.

I honestly had a very good experience working with Advance Roofing. I am an architect and know a few things about roofing. I am very satisfied with how this job turned out.

They gave us a quote to do the work and were very competitive. I was only talking to high-end roofers that had a good reputation, and I was looking for an outfit that understood the special problems that come with a 100 year old home. They were upfront about what was included in the contract pricing and what wasn't (there was the potential for dry rot repair in at least one area of our home).

Everyone I dealt with in this process was very helpful. That includes the office staff, the owner (who also did a bit of work), the manager who quoted the job and came out for inspections (and also did a bit of work), the carpenters who were needed to repair our porch, the roofers, and the gutter guy.

They guarantee their work for five years, but I expect this roof to last a long time.

Now, let me make a few general comments about the roofing experience. It is hard to get contractors to come out to your home during the winter, because they are overwhelmed with emergencies. I was told by some that they couldn't come out to quote the job for months. Just be prepared and don't wait to the last minute.

Once you do have a contract, you will be put in a queue. We signed a contract in December and the work happened in April. Advanced offered to put temporary tarps up if necessary for our leaks in the interim.

Schedules change- they actually came the week before the date we had agreed to, probably because of a cancellation. They called me that morning and were on site in an hour. Because roofers are behind and always dealing with the current weather, they need to jump in when they can. You need to be flexible.

I was very concerned about the mess of ripping the roof off of the house. They tried to be neat and did a great job, I think, but that doesn't mean there wasn't stuff on the ground. It is inevitable. And for the reviewer who was mad about the junk in her attic, I know that roofers don't to that automatically. If you have to take the roof down to the joists and start with new plywood, your attic is going to be a disaster, and you will need to discuss your options with the roofer in advance.

Hope that will help all of you out there. Good luck!

First and last time I am dealing with this company. April, who answers the phone has no customer service skills. John and David never get back to you when you leave messages.

THEY DID NOT RETURN MY CALL AS STATED ON THEIR VOICE MAIL GREETING!!! Due to the fact they are listed in the Diamond Certified directory, I called this company expecting great customer service and diamond level interactions. I called to get an appointment for an initial roof inspection and to receive professional advice to repair or replace my roof during their listed business hours and reached their voice mail. I left my return contact information as requested on their greeting message and have not received a return call as of a week later. They made it easy for me to remove them from my list of prospective roofing contractors. I'd give them zero stars if I could and also 5 thumbs down. If this is ""Advanced"" roofing service and Diamond Certified by roofing industry standards .... SCARY!!!!

Advanced did the roof on my house and did a great job at a good price. I recommend them to my clients as well.

We were really happy with the work Advanced did in replacing our roof five years ago. We recently noticed a small leak and contacted them since it was still under warranty. They were out that same day to repair it. Very good service!

I am a patient customer, and after working with this company for over a year and spending thousands of dollars with them I give up and here is why:

-Many, many missed appointments. My time is clearly not valued and I have had to take time off work only to find out that no one shows up.
-Good luck if you get a hold of the office. They rarely answer the phone and do not always call back.
-Paid for the repair of a leak. It still leaks. They tell us they will come out and have a look and never do.
-Apparently they do not guarantee leak repairs
-In a re-roof project they did for us, they did not perform everything written up in the contract. We had to walk them through the contract before they would fix their incomplete work.

Save your money, stress and time. This company is terrible. Sadly, I thought the owner was a good guy, he came out and did the initial estimate. But once the contract was signed the nightmare began.

ROOF SHOPPERS BE WARNED:

I just had an Oakland-based attic service provider spend the day extracting all the splintered debris, loose nails and particulate roofing material ADVANCED ROOFING SERVICES, INC. left in the wake of putting a new roof on my home three years ago.

Shame on me for never having looked in the attic since the new roof was put on, but shame on ADVANCED ROOFING SERVICES for leaving my attic in such a state--I had to pay just under $2,500.00 to have my attic cleaned up to my satisfaction.

Things to review before, during and after ARS has completed the job of putting on your new roof:

* Request to inspect the exposed attic for debris and request removal before the new roof is placed back on b/c it will cost more to remove the debris through a small attic access hole

* Request that the roofers patch any holes that might allow mice and/or rats to enter (the drought is forcing rodents into homes in their quest for a water supply)

* Don't pay for the job until you are completely satisfied and have inspected every last detail

An unsatisfied customer

Advanced Roofing put a new roof on my house two weeks ago. They were extraordinarily professional and diligent in completing the task. They did a great job and everyone from the owner to the workers doing the roof work had a wonderful attitude. That includes the office staff. If you need a new roof do yourself a favor and at least consult with them and obtain an estimate.

This company took the time to write us a note. While I can't speak to the quality of the work, I appreciate the effort to address our concerns.
