I was searching for roofers and went through yelp. I tried Tom Lee, but they weren't taking new customers. I talked to someone at Acme, but they were backed up and would have someone call me and if no one did, to call back in a week. Excelsior did call me back and I have an appointment next Thursday.

Mr. Jun came the day after I called. He came on time. He checked out the problem and told me that the better solution would be to cover the landing because of the pipe and water overflowing. He didn't think the roof was the problem.

He could have taken the job and taken my money, but he felt that the skylight would be more cost efficient and would save the roofing for years to come.

I totally appreciate that he thought of another solution. What he said made total sense and I'm waiting for Nayoung Sheet Metal to come by and give me an estimate, who by the way has great ratings on this site as well and I'm hoping to add another 5 stars. We'll see.

Eric Jun, president of AAA GR, is a great golfer. How do I know? He told me so. He said he was a 3 handicap. I'm impressed when he talks golf. His forte however is roofing. He did a great job replacing my stone-coated steel roof improperly installed 6 years ago by Mike Lunneborg at Cal Pac Roofing in Campbell. (This branch of Cal Pac Roofing is now out of business probably because they farmed out the work to poorly trained installers. Mr. Lunneborg now works at Western Roofing System somewhere in the south bay, so beware.)

AAA GR installed GAF Grand Canyon lifetime roof shingles basically following GAF guidelines by installing Deck Armor instead of felt and Storm Guard around edges and plumbing jacks. They ripped off the old roof tile all the way down to the plywood which was spongy and needed to be replaced. I thought it would take at least another day to replace the plywood but a truck from ABC Roofing Supply pulled up in about an hour with the plywood! It was very interesting to watch them crane plywood, and later, shingles to the top of our house.

I told Eric I plan to put on solar panels and he agreed to install the GAF Cobra Exhaust Ridge Vent rather than simply replace the 4 old metal vents which would have interferred with the placement of the solar panels. They chipped away about 10 inches of stucco around the base of the chimney to install the copper chimney saddle and repaired the stucco to like-new condition. They completed the job in approx. 3 days and were fairly priced. They have been roofing for 30 to 35 years now and his installers are well-trained so I'm confident this will be the last roof I put on my house.
