My great-grandfather Willie Darrow and his brother started as slaters before branching into wood shingles. The business was later taken over by my grandfather Mitchel Lay and then my father Jeffrey Lay, and now it’s passed down to me and my three siblings, all of whom have sons in the trade.

Being a fifth-generation roofer, I have been devoted to public service since my father suggested I stop attending school in the eighth grade. I was running crews before I could drive; I mastered speed sheets and roofing at a young age. Fueled by determination and a focus on customer satisfaction, I obtained my GED in 2000. Not long after, I attended Brunswick Community College for business economics and enrolled in the AAA Construction School for roofing and waterproofing. I sought to outdo my predecessors, earning a master's degree in business and more than 100 certifications. I have also had the privilege of working on some of the most iconic structures across the nation. My work has taken me to Iowa, Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, and South Carolina, but Georgia remains my home and roofing is my passion.
